The Blade of Marmora

“Wait!” Keith called out. “Just take the knife.”
Everyone—including the Red Lion outside—stopped. Keith held the knife in his outstretched hand.
“It doesn’t matter where I come from. I know who I am,” Keith said. “We all need to work together to defeat Zarkon. If that means I give up this knife, fine. Take it.”
Keith had made his choice. As he muttered his last word, the emblem on the knife glowed. The bluish-purple burst of light got bigger and bigger until it lit up the entire room.
The Marmora soldiers were in awe.
“You’ve awoken the blade!” Kolivan announced.
Keith stared at his blade, shocked. But nothing prepared him for what Kolivan said next.
“The only way this is possible,” Kolivan said, “is if Galra blood runs through your veins.”
Now everyone in the room was shocked.
Keith held the knife in his hand as it transformed into a large blade. It looked identical to the weapon that Ulaz had carried—the weapon that all the members of the Blade of Marmora carried.
CHAPTER 6
Keith stared at the blade. Could this be the answer to where he came from?
Kolivan’s words repeated in his head. It made sense, somehow. Galra blood. Hadn’t Zarkon said it not too long ago, when they’d battled each other?
You fight like a Galra soldier! Zarkon had yelled.
Keith remembered that he had once been able to use his palm to unlock a Galra base and how he had always wondered why he didn’t fit in. It all made sense to Keith, really . . . that he was part Galra. It meant Keith wasn’t human, or not entirely human, anyway.
But no matter what Keith was, he was a Paladin of Voltron. And he was determined to do everything he could to take Emperor Zarkon down.
Back on the Castleship, Allura was ready to attack the Blade of Marmora base to rescue Keith and Shiro when the Red Lion appeared on the main computer.
Shiro’s voice came through the speaker. “Princess, we’re coming back,” he said, “and we’re bringing someone you should meet.”
The Paladins cheered. They’d done it!
The Red Lion glided into its hangar on the Castleship, and Keith and Shiro disembarked. Then Kolivan exited the Red Lion and took off his mask. He bowed to Princess Allura.
“Princess Allura, it’s good to see that the rumors are true. You’re still alive after all these years.”
“So is Zarkon,” Allura said coldly. “Can we consider you our ally in the fight against him?”
“Yes, but we have little time to discuss this,” Kolivan said. “I just received word from our spy inside the Galra hierarchy. They have become aware of our presence. The timetable for our plan has been moved up.”
“How soon do we need to begin?” asked Shiro.
Kolivan eyed everyone around him. “Now,” he said.
Voltron and the Blade of Marmora were now partners in the same fight. Together, they hoped they would be strong enough to defeat Zarkon . . . once and for all.
