“Now is not the time to be missing calls,” she groans into the phone before hitting the redial button. Just as she is about to toss the phone across the room, someone answers.
“Hello?” Amanda calls out, “Emily? Jesus, I have been trying to reach you all night.”
“This isn’t Emily,” Jayd grunts into her phone. Amanda moves the phone from her ear to recheck that she has called the correct number. “I’m sorry. This is Emily’s phone, isn’t it? Where is she?” Amanda asks, growing suspicious.
“She’s a little tied up at the moment. She won’t be able to come to the phone for a little while” He chuckles and she can swear she just heard a muffled cry in the background.
“Who the hell are you?” Amanda asks as her hand tightens around the envelope and fear chokes her throat closed. Emily is in trouble. She can feel it in her bones.
“I’m nobody you need to worry about. Who are you?” He asks and she glances down at the envelope. “Apparently, I’m her sister.” She hears him spit on the other end of the phone. “Family can often be a lot more trouble than they’re worth.” He drawls. “Don’t worry about your sister too much. You’d just better pray that her lover boy comes back to California in time to save her.”
Warning bells go off in her heard immediately. It is just a coincidence. It has to be. She stares down at the envelope in her hand. It is too big a coincidence and she doesn’t believe in coincidences. “Lover? What lover?” she asks, already knowing the answer.
“What kind of sister are you?” Jayd laughs, “She’s paired up with California’s most eligible bachelor. Matthew fucking O’Donoghue.” He growls.
“He’s the one you should be worried about. He’s the one you should all be worried about.” He starts to scream, “I’m going to kill him. You hear me? You hear me?”
