“It doesn’t answer mine,” she said. “Are you offering to take care of us because you think it’s what Brendan would want you to do? If it is, then the answer is no, I won’t stay. Not with you, not in Mooresville.” She held her breath. She had just taken the biggest leap of faith in her life.
He didn’t answer immediately but looked down at her daughter. “What do you say, Brianna?” he asked softly. “Do you want to move to Florida with your mommy just to prove how brave and strong and self-reliant two women on their own can be? Or do you want to stay here…the three of us together?” Brianna gave a little wiggle and shoved her fist in her mouth, cooing in his arms. Quinn looked at Daisy and the darkness had left his eyes and his smile, his wonderful smile, took her breath away. “I’m betting that means she isn’t interested in moving to Florida just to prove a point. What about you, Daisy? Will you stay because I want you and need you…because I’m falling in love with you?”
Those words were what she’d wanted to hear. She didn’t need to consider her answer for more than a handful of seconds. “Yes,” she said, moving into the circle of his arms, placing her hand over his where it curled beneath Brianna’s bottom. “Yes, I’ll stay because I’m almost certain I’m falling in love with you, too.”
Quinn bent his head and kissed her. When their lips met the earth moved beneath her feet and the roar of a thousand dragons filled her ears…or at least the roar of forty-three racing V-8s. “The race is starting,” she said, breathless when he lifted his mouth from hers.
“Dammit, the race. Daisy—”
“I know, I know. We have to go.”
“That was our first kiss but it sure as heck isn’t going to be the last.”
“I hope not,” she said, laying her hand against his cheek, something she’d been yearning to do for days and days. “We have all the time in the world to make our plans for the future, Quinn.”
“You’re right,” he said, grinning as he bent his head to steal one more, quick kiss. “And we’re going to start making those plans tonight.”
Daisy smiled. “Just as soon as the Rev Energy Drinks car takes the checkered flag.”
