Preface.
Later that day, and going into the seven o’clock hour, Brenda stood in the hospital waiting room with tears pouring when her other son Stanley comes walking into the room.
Went over by him quickly, they hugged tightly, and Brenda cried in his arms, hanging their heads, Shawn, Saul with Seth.
Sobbing out, “Oh Stanley, your too skinny son”, gave a little smile and wiping tears asked, “Your family come with you?”
“Yes, they’re here, after Uncle Danny Ray picked us up at the airport, my kids were tired so we went to your house”. Touching Stanley’s face said, “I’m glad your home son”. Held tightly onto his mother, and added, “Gee, maw still have them cow curtains, huh?” His brother’s slight smile. Took, Stanley’s hand tightly saying, “Oh son, your paw left us last night”, dark brown eyes filled with tears.
Listened to his mother tell him about his brother Sebastian, watery eyes large, and about Shane in jail then his wife, Tara that also passed away through the night from a vicious attack on their family.
Wiping tears, added, “Lord, Shane don’t even know it yet that she’s gone”, tears rolling and Shawn said, “Truth is little brother we fear telling him”. Hands tucked into jean pockets.
Arms folded, “He’s going to freak” added Saul leaning against the wall, and teary eyed Seth just nodded.
“It’s going to be real hard telling Shane about Tara that was your brother’s world”, and drying her eyes with a tissue.
Took a deep breath in shock Stanley replied, “Holy-cow what a nightmare”. “Yes it’s been one heck of a night son”, heads hung.
Held her son’s hand that she hasn’t seen for a few years, Stanley Roland Wiley had been gone for some time.
Sixteen-years-old at the time he moved out and on bad terms with his paw, Paul Gene.
Stanley had gotten a fifteen-year-old Indian girl pregnant and her family made the two wed.
Paul Gene had a fight with her family to, which just led to a big argument, Stanley stuck by his girl and family side.
At that point, Paul Gene told his boy, “You walk out that door don’t come back”. Young Stanley left and had not returned, it hurt Brenda very much.
Furthermore, always kept contact with her son and wrote letters, sent money from time to time if needed. Always sent gifts to her grandchildren.
Later on through the years, Paul Gene had called his son making a mends and Stanley told him, “It was water under the bridge”. However, by that time he had been living in Texas near his three uncles and working at the Wiley family construction site, as his wife also had a good job.
Therefore, stayed where he and his family made their life, called weekly faithfully and wrote keeping in contact.
Stanley was with his three uncles that kept a close eye on him and were right there if needed. Paul Gene and Brenda knew Stanley was in good hands.
Although, Stanley made it clear to both his parents, if my family ever needs me, I will go the distance being there.
Stanley had left the family at fifteen-years- old and now twenty-four was reunited after many years, like Shawn.
The young girl he got pregnant stayed true to all those years and loved his wife Charlene very much.
He was just like the rest of his brothers loyal, all except Saul the only one out of the six. Stanley and Charlene have four boys, Jared is their oldest that brought them together he is ten-years- old, than Jessie is nine and Jade is five than their youngest Jake is three.
Hugging his three brothers, remarked, “Wow, Seth little buddy you sure grew, must work out to, huh?” A slight smile.
Wiping tears, Brenda said, “You think this little brother is muscular, lord you should see your brother Sebastian”.
“Why?” Stanley held his mother that cries and his brothers sniffle.
“Oh why god!”
“My boys are finally back together in my arms and one may be out of my life for good and the other locked away for life”.
Hung their heads and those tears they had never shed sure have been pouring. Pulling back from his weeping mother, said, “Maw I’d like to see my brother
Sebastian”, she took Stanley’s hand saying, “He looks real bad and is in a deep sleep”.
More tears roll first time ever along with his other brothers and walk over by Sebastian’s
room.
Holding Stanley’s hand, Brenda told him, “Your brother spoke this morning made us happy, but he went back into a deep sleep”. Felt bad gripped his mother hand. Of course Stanley was just like his brothers when it comes to strong willed and can take pain without ever batting an eye.
At thirteen-years-old, that youngster got his foot stuck in an animal trap. Once again with luck on the boy’s side managed to get loose with suffering a deep flesh wound to his ankle caused by the metal that dug through.
Young Stanley though, was not out of the woods yet, when he became faced with three angry coyotes the traps awaited for.
With his ankle practically severed off how that boy managed to survive was unbelievable as three coyote lay with their necks snapped like a chicken. There were many stories floating around those hills after a few Wiley boys come across vicious animals, and somehow survived.
The main rumor though, each time one of Brenda’s younger boys faced possible tragedy. Out of the blue, comes one unidentified person that hid behind a face mask who was fast as lightning each time and quickly saved the cornered boy and then took on the fierce army.
Head on every time and would overcome, as the animals lay dead.
Before any of Brenda’s boys got a chance to thank this clueless person they were gone mysteriously just as they always appeared to help in need.
Furthermore, no one ever knew who the masked person was, but in later years Ella found out the hero saving the day, Saul Wiley.
Meanwhile.
In the room by Sebastian, tears shed, Stanley just stood next to the bed looking down at his brother, had a big white bandage wrapped around his whole head with another bandage over his one eye that was removed early that morning, it could not be saved. Brenda told Stanley all that his brother had endured and can’t believe how he took the worst pain that ever could have been put on someone.
Stanley looked faint actually, and Brenda put her arms around him crying.
Leaning against the wall, Shawn said, “Guess you may have been right Seth that he did turn into a werewolf to take all that and still ticking”, Seth shook his head of long curls just looking down at his brother.
After a few sad minutes, they all walked out and Stanley wiping tears, reached in his blue jean pocket pulling out his wallet and his family looked on, when he pulled a picture out.
It was an old one from many years back just like Shawn had, of all the Wiley boys sitting on their old porch back home in Kentucky.
Furthermore, there was something real strange in the picture Stanley had.
All the Wiley boys had really long hair, were sitting around on the banister of the porch and sitting right on the steps was a very pretty young girl about fourteen or fifteen-years of age with long jet black hair.
It was a girl no doubt about it, as the boys were wearing their flannels and she wore a pink sweater with pink pants, had her leg crossed and looked so dainty sitting in the middle surrounded by a crew of Wiley boys and actually eight long haired boys? Showed his family the picture and instantly Brenda broke down crying walking away, wide-eyed Stanley said, “Oops, I’ve upset maw”.
Tucking his hands into his baggy blue jean po
ckets, Shawn said, “Nah, maw will be fine”. Seth and Saul looking at the picture teary eyed and Saul said, “Aw she sure was a beauty”, smiled.
Holding the picture watery eyes too, Stanley remarked, “She was the princess”. Glancing at the picture of his beautiful sister, Saul added, “Yeah we were the army always protecting her until that day”, tears roll from every eye.
In the waiting room looking out the big picture window stood Brenda wiping tears, said, “Oh Sandy Gail why do bad things happen in this life, mama misses her only girl”. The boys only sister, but wonder what happen to her at such a young age. Time will tell many shocking secrets, but with a horrible outcome of what happen to Sandy Gail Wiley years ago in those southern hills.
One week pass and sadly.
The funeral of Paul Gene Wiley and it was the hardest moment Brenda ever faced. The very next day, Tara Wiley was laid to rest, as Brenda was in bed for twenty-four hours and her boys worried they would lose her. Luckily, Danny Ray agreed to stay on permanently and help his late brother Paul Gene’s family in need.
John and Marty though returned back to Texas and would call faithfully since they had the business and families.
At the Wiley home, which become filled, Brenda’s two other boys and family were there to stay permanent. Then Danny Ray with his two grandsons, the Wiley home sure grew bigger and louder.
Charlene by the kitchen stove cooking again the second night in a row, and Danny Ray was sitting by the kitchen table reading over the newspaper. “Hey Uncle Danny Ray”.
“Yeah Charlene?” Turning the page.
“I am kind of worried about Stan’s maw”, set the paper down and rose his hand to his head.
Comes sitting down by the table Charlene said, “It’s been two days now, is there anything you can do, Stan and his brothers have tried”.
“Brenda will come around”.
“She hasn’t even gone to see Sebastian”, and he hung his head.
“Where’s Shawn been all day?” Holding the newspaper.
“Took his wife Sonya to the airport, she told him it’s too crowded here and not her style”, sneer Charlene cutting up carrots.
Danny Ray shook his head and Charlene mumbled, “That woman was too snooty anyhow”. Chuckling Danny Ray, took a sip of coffee.
“But his eleven-year- old son Elijah is staying with daddy”, Danny Ray smiles, finishing reading the newspaper.
Walking by the stove, Charlene finished cooking and later that evening the Wiley’s sat down to dinner, except Brenda never comes out and Saul either that had been out all day.
However, Ella sat with her four children eating, as Seth and his family sat right across from her.
Right next to Seth sat his brother Stanley and his four boys with Charlene his wife. While Shawn and his son still were not back.
During dinner, rather silent, and Ella could not help to glance at Seth often, his wife Missy sure noticed.
Shane’s children were not home they are visiting their other grandparents Tara’s parent’s that were heartbroken over her loss.
They wanted to spend some quality time with the children before moving to Florida in a month.
Throughout dinner, Brenda never comes out and afterwards, Charlene made her a plate and went to take it to her.
Knocked on the bedroom door, heard, “I am not hungry”.
“Okay, I’ll just put it in the kitchen Brenda”, and no reply.
Took the plate back in the kitchen, setting it into the oven and sitting by the table Danny Ray with Stanley just looked at each other.
Standing by the counter with her back towards them, hanging her head, Charlene said, “I’m scared that Brenda’s given up it seems.”
Sebastian’s little girl Kayla comes strutting in the kitchen, holding up a picture she colored and said, “I made Nana a get well soon card”, the three adults expressionless. Bending down to her, Charlene asked, “Little sugar did you want to take it to grandma?” “Oh me tried she don’t hear me”.
At that point, Danny Ray got up quickly from his chair and walked fast through the house, went right into Brenda’s bedroom.
Finding her sitting on the bed holding the bible, turned looking at him. Standing by the dresser said, “Brenda I know how hard it is, I been there, but your family needs you and it’s time that strong Brenda comes home”, looking at her. Rubbing her hand firmly onto the bible, “You amaze me Danny Ray how you feel I am strong and far from”, tears rolling.
Leaning against the dresser with his arms folded, says “Never knew an Indian woman that wasn’t”, and cracked a slight smile saying, “Hush”.
“Aw the man above must have known how strong to, because he gave you many roughneck boys to deal with”.
Doleful, broke down crying out, “Oh I cannot lose another child Danny Ray”, putting her hands over her face.
Walking closer, knelt down in front of Brenda and said, “You’re not going to, I truly believe Sebastian is coming home”, as she cried.
Looking up at Brenda hanging her head, and said, “You passed down your strength”. “God I love my boys”.
“Of course mommy”.
Wiping tears, “True, grown men, but will always be my little baby’s pulling on my apron strings”.
Rose up, sat on the bed next to her, as she clung onto him, he said, “Aw heck you had a crew ripping them apron strings, huh”.
“You’re right”, cracking a slight smile.
Wiped her eyes and added, “I once tripped over them whiners all cluttered at my feet, oh Shane was the biggest whiner off all, still is”, laughed with Danny Ray,
that said, “I thought two was difficult”.
“I was truly blessed Danny Ray”. Stood up and holding her special locket asked, “Any word on Shane?”
“Well he cannot post bond and it’s going to trial”, shook her head.
Reached putting her bible into the nightstand drawer and looking up at Danny Ray, as he smiled.
“Thank you!” Hand against her chest.
“You’re very welcome Brenda”.
Finally comes out of her bedroom after a few days and her family sure was pleased. There were many hugs and happy smiles as all the grandkids were sure glad Nana was back.
Surrounded Brenda, had tears of joy, Danny Ray looked over at Brenda’s, boys, Shawn, Stanley, Seth and winked, as they smiled.
However, Saul was still not home when Shawn and Elijah now returned. A few days later, Brenda was back to her old self and busy as ever.
In addition, was at the hospital right by Sebastian’s side, sat on the chair next to his bed just stroking his burned hand and no response from him.
“Oh my precious child, it’s time you come back and open your eye”.
Sebastian had the surgery and his right eye had been removed, there was a bandage over the removed eye and will have to wear a patch if he pulls through, like pirates wear. Rubbing his hand softly when the young nurse comes in, Maryann said, “Well hello Mrs. Wiley”.
“Oh please dear call me Brenda”, smiles saying, “Hello Brenda”.
“How is my son doing?”
“Hanging on strong, all his vitals are good too”, and put her hands together sighed, “Thank god”.
Writing on a chart, Maryann said, “The doctors informed me that he is coming along better than they expected”, and Brenda looking at him said, “Yes he’s a true miracle after what happen to him”.
“Honestly Brenda, most people probably would not have seen the next day and Sebastian it’s a week”.
“I wonder if he can hear us or is he still in the coma?” Rubbing his hand. “He is in a mild coma and all he has to do is wake up now”. Looking at her son, Brenda asked, “Do you think he will wake?”
“Well, he already spoke, but then went back to sleep”, and asking, “What did he say Maryann?”
“Ella!” Eyes big Brenda remarked, “Ella?”
“Yes, kept calling that name out”, putting her hand by her face
Brenda added, “My son took fondly to her just like a sister”, tears filled her eyes, as fingers slowly move from Sebastian.
“Oh yes his heart is strong and perfect, I see it happening any day”, smiles. “Well my son is in good hands, thank you!”
“My pleasure, he’s rather special”. Patted his other hand.
Rubbing his hand, “Very special” replied Brenda and Maryann said, “Maybe this Ella should come see him, might be the trick to wake him” and his hand slightly moved across the bed.
“You might be right”, both looking at him.
Maryann told Brenda she would see her on her next round hopefully and Brenda replies, that she had to get home and start dinner.
After Maryann left Sebastian’s room, she headed down to his wife Mandy’s room and walked in.
Saw Mandy standing brushing her hair in front of the mirror as Maryann noticed the packed bag and said, “Oh I see you’re going home”.
Swinging her long hair back, Mandy replied, “Yep, thank god, my rides on its way”. Holding charts asked, “Going to stop in and see your husband?”
“No, I cannot see Sebastian like that or what I have heard, sorry”. Setting the brush down.
Maryann hung her head saying, “He is your husband and the daddy of your baby”. “Yes, Sebastian is my child’s daddy sad to say”. Eyes large Maryann mumbled, “Sad to say, don’t she love him?”
Suddenly, the door opened and walking in the young blonde haired woman saying, “Hey sweetie ready?”
Frown, Maryann stepped aside and said, “Well bye Mandy do take care”, waved says, “Bye nurse”.
Left that room fast and out in the hallway said, “Wow, I was freezing in that room she is cold hearted”.
Stood behind the nurse’s station and watched Mandy leaving happily, carry on with the young female, as she even took her hand giggled saying, “Oh Marcy!”
Maryann’s blue eyes got large she gasped saying, “Unbelievable and heartless”. It actually upset Maryann how Mandy showed no sympathy for her husband that’s been suffering.
All that Sebastian endured and the worst pain anyone could go through and was still not out of the woods.
Maryann mumbled, “He honestly can do better than that cold hearted snake”, got back to work and had grown fond of her patient.
