  “Hey, you okay?”

  “I’m fine”, went into the bedroom and finishing dinner the four kids sat down by the table reaching for the ketchup Cody asked, “Where’s dad?”

  Setting the plate of fries down nibbling on one, Ella replied, “Don’t know, be right back hurried to the bedroom, walks in saw Saul across the bed arm above his head and asked, “You feeling okay?”

  “Bad headache”.

  “Oh want some aspirin?”

  “Nah, just want to be left alone”.

  “All right”, turns around walking out of the room goes into the kitchen and sitting down ate dinner with the four kids that noticed their daddy not eating.

  Holding a glass up Dylan asked, “Can I have more milk mama?”

  “Sure”, got up walking towards the refrigerator when Saul comes walking pass, she asked, “Ready to eat?”

  “No”, went out the door slamming it shut, the children’s eyes huge and comes back by the table reaches the glass of milk to Dylan sat down mumbling, “Some things never change bet he’s messing around again?”

  Later that night, Ella lay in the bed glanced over at the alarm clock says, “Two am, I was right turning over hugging his pillow.

  Meanwhile at Brenda’s home, Danny Ray walking through the house heading towards the kitchen, paused, saw Saul sleeping on the sofa and scratching his head mumbles, “Wonder what’s going on?” Went into the kitchen got a glass of water and walking back through the house went back to his bedroom.

  Morning, Brenda standing holding a laundry basket, he asked, “Hey did you know Saul slept here last night?”

  Rose eyebrows high replied, “He did”.

  “I saw him on the sofa”.

  “Oh lord they must be fighting again and things have been good”. At the apartment building Ella walks into the laundry room held the full basket of dirty cloths pauses saw Seth lifting weights, she stood there watching him lift the barbell up and down, no shirt on wearing gray jogging pants his six-pack abs shimmering in sweat. Setting the barbell down grabbing up a bottle of water noticed Ella and said, “Hi peeper”.

  Walked in saying, “Hush, I have laundry to do and did not know you were down here”. “Aw I work out every Sunday”.

  “Well I do laundry every Sunday”, sorting through clothes.

  “I was finished anyway”.

  “Good go”, and reaching for the towel behind her looking at him close, nearly brushing against her and asked, “Hope you liked the show”, wipes his face walking away laughing. “Well I didn’t”.

  “Yeah right Ella”, stomps her foot again, threw clothes in the washing machine.

  A few days later, a big family dinner took place, as Brenda and Danny Ray had an announcement to make.

  The whole family was there when Danny Ray actually got down on one knee and asked Brenda to be his wife the rest of the family watching.

  Smiling happily Brenda told him yes, the whole family smiled clapping, even whistling as Brenda and Danny Ray kissed before eyes huge, some rolled. One week later, May 17th 1987, Danny Ray and Brenda were married at the justice of the piece with a packed room of Wiley’s. Even his two brothers John, Marty with their wives Joanna and Melody flew in from Texas for this special day.

  After pronounced husband and wife, the family went to dinner at an all you can eat buffet, the grandchildren noticing all the desserts, remarked, “Yummy”.

  Later that wonderful day, the bride and groom went away for the weekend to a fancy cabin near the lake. Danny Ray’s two brothers with their wives were staying the weekend with the others until he and Brenda return home.

  In the bathroom, Brenda looked into the mirror fluffing her bangs said, “Oh lord I’m so nervous, I feel like a virgin at fifty-one”. Heard rapping, Danny Ray asked, “Brenda you okay?”

  “No”.

  “What’s wrong Brenda”, leaned against the door saying, “I’m scared”. “Well yes that always happens”

  “Bull, Danny Ray not with males”, he grinned on the other side of the door and said, “If it is too much Brenda will wait yet”.

  “By then we might forget what to do or how”.

  Chuckles out, “Nah, one never forgets how to please his woman”.

  “Oh lord, now I’m getting more scared here”.

  “Aw just come out Brenda it’s me you’ve known since you were fourteen”. “Yes I have known you forever and everything about you”.

  “Same here Brenda”.

  Fussing with her locket nervously, replied, “I do not know one side of you Danny Ray and that I’m fearing”.

  Leaning against the other side of the door to, replied, “Aw don’t be Brenda”. Comes out wearing a long blue lace nightgown, grinning he said, “Wow for a mother with many grown sons and grandchildren, you look amazing Brenda”, blushed and he took her hand leading her to the bed said, “I love you Brenda with all my heart”, she had tears and replied, “Show me!” Brenda’s blue lace nightgown drops to the floor, hand covering her face mumbles, “Oh lord!”

  Two days later the newlyweds were home and back to their daily routine, as a happy couple comes home another couple’s marriage becoming rocky again, Saul and Ella arguing constantly.

  Furthermore, not the only couple Shawn and Jennifer broke up after he caught her with another man.

  Chapter 7. The family never pried and stayed out of it completely as he was grown and upset, Brenda noticed, heard him crying a few nights. Wanted to help, and one morning before Shawn left for work, she grabs his arm, turns looking at her asked, “Yeah what’s up maw?”

  “I am here if you ever need to talk”.

  Held his lunch bag replied, “Aw, I know, thanks maw”, smiles and kissed her cheek walked out.

  Two, weeks later, working on a roof, Shawn looks at his brothers said, “Hey I’m gonna grab some lunch”, hands waving he climbed down the ladder walking into the small deli goes up to the counter, eyes huge stared at him wearing a red bandana on his head of shoulder length golden locks looking at the menu above as the young girl with long black hair stared. “Aw, I’ll have two roast beef clubs”.

  In a daze, noticed waved hand, “Hello miss”.

  Sighs and held laughter back rolled eyes said, “Maybe I should come back”. Shook her head says, “Sorry be right back”, hurried away and he hears giggling. Comes back with the sandwiches reaching it to Shawn setting the money down, points saying, “You get a soda to, it’s a combo”.

  “Oh okay” and smiling watches him walk toward the pop machine biting her bottom lip got the can of pop, grabs the bag winks, eyes nearly pop out and walking out. Frown, door opens and walked back in asked, “Hey”, and eyes huge says, “Yes”. “What’s your name?”

  “Gina”.

  “Nice to meet you Gina, I’m Shawn”, winked again walking out hand by her heart smiling says, “Oh god”.

  Later that evening, walking into the back whistling and standing by the sink washing off the frypan, heard, turns around saying, “Hi son”.

  “Hey maw”.

  “Hungry, I made beef stew”. Lifting lid on the big kettle on the stove.

  “Nah, going to dinner with Gina”, eyebrows high mumbles, “Gina?”

  Gina, was very attractive with long black hair, big brown eyes, curved figure and twenty-four- years old and much younger then Shawn that turned, thirty-three-years old.

  The Wiley brothers older, since a few years went by, Saul was thirty-two and Shane thirty-one.

  Stanley, twenty-nine, and Sebastian twenty-eight, the youngest brother Seth was twenty-six-years old.

  Their business become very known the best around many parts and cities lately. Three months past, Shawn had a date every night with Gina and one evening brought her over to meet his family they all liked her. Brenda told Shawn, “She’s beautiful”, hugged her son and glad he was happy again.

  One day at school, stood by her locker, Samantha kept glancing down the hall and had not seen Lucas for a few years now, she wonder
ed what happen or was he killed, feared the worst.

  Putting her books away in the locker could not help notice Ryder with a girl pinned up against the locker, Samantha closed her locker, headed down to him. Rubbing on the girl’s leg, saw Samantha and asked, “Lost Wiley?”

  Gave him a dirty look, he asked, “Hey, where’s that favorite loser cuz of yours, I know he trashed my bike!”

  Giggling, replied, “Well paybacks, because you destroyed his third bike, huh?” Playing with the other girl’s long blonde hair said, “Look Wiley you’re intruding here”, the girl giggled.

  Hung her head and noticed, he snarl, becoming annoyed with Samantha’s sorrow that wasn’t leaving any time soon either.

  Touched the other girls face saying, “Hey Karen baby meet ya in study hall”, gave him a kiss.

  Samantha’s eyes roll and the girl walked away with him mumbling “Yummy!” Angrily, turned towards Samantha and pointed saying, “Look rotten Wiley stay away from me okay!”

  Swinging her long dark curls back replied, “Oh, I’d rather never run into you ever again, but Lucas yes and where has he been for four years?”

  Smirked saying, “Aw really want to know?” Leans against the locker crossing his leg. “Of course I do”.

  “The pen!”

  Eyes got huge and gasped out, “Prison?”

  “Yeah, learning to be a real man, my family hopes, because he was a sissy before”.

  Stood frozen and he said, “Now look, I told you, so stay far from me because, I cannot be seen with a filthy Wiley”.

  Looked at him slight smile, said, “Hey thanks Ryder”, smirks, walking away. Stood by her locker in shock with the news of Lucas going to prison and wondered why, because from what she had heard, Lucas was an honor roll student and kept amazing grades.

  However, just let it go and had no other choice really, except hope that he returns to school one day.

  Walked away from her locker and when the school day had ended went meeting up with all her cousins that stood waiting.

  A strict Wiley rule that all the grandchildren walked home together in such a large group. Elijah, Cody, Jared, Brian, Josh, Nicky, Aaron, Jessie, Jade, and Ashley with Samantha.

  There sure was a crowd of Wiley grandkids and confusing to keep up as there were many new generations now.

  Back home, sitting by the kitchen table Brenda cutting coupons out of the newspaper hears the door bell ringing, got up walking through the house went to the door opening it.

  Saw a young female with long blonde hair standing there with a young girl right at her side, as she appeared to be ten or eleven-years-old.

  The young girl had long curly blonde hair and bluest eyes and looking at them both Brenda asked, “Can I help you?”

  “This is the Wiley home isn’t it?”

  “Yes it is”, mumbled to herself, “Which boy has done what now?”

  The woman smiled asking, “Are you the Wiley boy’s ma”.

  One eyebrow high asked, “Yes and who did what?” Curious.

  “Well actually I do not know which son of yours is my kid here’s daddy”. “What, huh?” Hand against her head.

  “Might we come in Mrs. Wiley and I’ll explain”.

  Looking faint replied, “Yes come in, both of you and please fill me in on what is going on”.

  The woman and child entered the Wiley home, Brenda was nervous and very curious took them into the kitchen sat down by the table.

  The little girl went out in the back yard to swing when the woman told Brenda she rather her daughter not hear the details how she became a Wiley and after Brenda heard she would have rather not known.

  Sat with hand to her head that was down and said, “My boys really done that”, the woman replied, “Yes four of them did”.

  Stood up going over by the sink looked out the window at the young girl swinging, a few tears rolled down her face.

  Staring out the window upset asked, “Which four do you know names or remember?” “Saul”.

  Scowls, Brenda mumbles, “Uh I figured”, the woman added, “Shawn, Stanley and Shane”.

  “Good grief, Shane, are you sure?” One eyebrow raised high.

  “Oh yes, I am sure”. Pulling her long blonde hair back puts into a ponytail. Bending over the sink said, “Oh lord, I feel sick and so ashamed”.

  “I am sorry, but I have been trying to do right by Carla and cannot that is why I want to sign custody over to whoever is her father”.

  “You sure it’s a Wiley”.

  “Definitely”. Took a sip of coffee that Brenda gave her.

  Mumbling, “Lord, I raised pigs”.

  “I am sorry to upset you”.

  “Oh I’m ticked, did you even tell them to stop?”

  “Yes, after some time, they did not”, and started gagging, quickly Brenda grabbed a glass of water.

  Fiddling with her hands nervously, the woman said, “I am so sorry and was to blame being young did not realize how I would soon hurt and even more getting pregnant”. “I’m going to kill um!” Held the glass of water hands shook with anger. “I feel awful to tell a mother this”.

  “At this moment I feel awful being their mother”. Woman hangs her head, Brenda mumbling, “How sick”.

  “I just want you to know your boys did not rape me, it was willingly, but got carried away”. Glass drops to the floor breaking and knelt down mumbling, “Well, thought they had fun wait until they find out one will pay over this filth”.

  Cleaned up the broken glass that fell from her trembling hands, Brenda and the woman talked some more as she told Brenda, that a paternity test is schedule in two days to find out which son of hers is Carla’s father after they pulled a Wiley train on her . Tells Brenda, my name is Bobbie Joe and slight smile told her, “Nice to meet you, but not under these circumstances”.

  Gave Brenda all the information of where and what time for her sons to be there, then left with her daughter and Brenda fuming. Standing by the kitchen sink peeling potatoes, Danny Ray walked in the back door, said, “Hey there dear”, turned swinging the knife.

  Putting his hands up, said, “Okay, maybe I should go back out the door”, waving the knife said, “Yes do that and bring Shawn, Saul, Shane and Stanley to me”. “Okay dear”, hurried out the back door heard her shout, “NOW!”

  A few minutes, four walking in dirty from work, Brenda had tears looking them asking, “What’s wrong maw?”

  “Yeah what’s up maw?” Reaching on the counter for an apple in the bowl of fruit slapping Shane’s hand, drops the apple, “Aw heck maw”.

  Pulling off his red bandana, Shawn asked, “What did we do must be something maw”. Slapped all four across the face and Danny Ray hurried back out the door. Looking surprised, Shawn asked, “What did we do?”

  “Bobbie Joe ring a bell or should I say hear a train whistle?” Hands on hips very angry. Mouths drop open, silent, and disgusted Brenda said, “Ah, huh, guilty, so this filthy sexual act actually took place?”

  Leaning against the wall, Shawn said, “We were young maw”, upset replied, “No wrong you were”.

  Hung their heads and Brenda raved on furiously when Shane got belted a second time. Sitting on the back porch Danny Ray heard and just shook his head lighting up a cigar as he now hears Saul yell, “Maw, I was seventeen only”.

  “Shut up son, I am madder than I’ve ever been at y’all”.

  Pointing at Saul and leaning back on the chair said, “Aw he started it”, and saw red, Grabs the knife, swung it at Shane saying, “I should cut it off”, hands blocking says, “Woe, calm down maw”.

  “Not over this”.

  “Happen years ago maw”, turning around swung the knife at Stanley, and saying, “I cannot believe you to”, hung his head no reply.

  Wiping an apple off Saul says, “Bobbie Joe fooled ya maw”, and got close in his face asked, “Explain?”

  Laughs out, “To you, nah”, and Shane with Stanley, sat silent hanging heads. Fuming, finger pointing in h
is face says, “Better tell me what you mean?” “A very bad girl”, folded arms, “So because this girl was bad you all took advantage of her”.

  “Nah, was not like that”, and rose eyebrow said, “Keep going”.

  “Bobbie came on to us okay, shoot told her we had girlfriend’s next thing she was stripping, kissing each of us”.

  Leaning back on the chair, “Aw he’s right maw”.

  “Shut up Shane, I’ll knock your lights out after what you done”.

  “Maw she basically begged us, saying she wanted the Wiley boys”.

  “Shut up Stanley, you’ll get knocked into next week”.

  Finger swinging, “Aw Stan is right maw”, and belted Shane again, grabbing his face mumbles, “I’m the only one getting hit, they all done it to”.

  “You’re the one running your mouth fool”.

  “Shut up Saul was all your fault”.

  Hands up says, “I heard enough, you all messed with this girl”. Felt queasy. Leaning against the counter, Shawn asked, “Why bringing this up after all these years maw?”

  Silently listening to their mother telling them, that their train ride has turned into a complete wreck, because a child was conceived.

  Eyes become huge and leaning back on the chair, fell completely back, falling onto the floor Shane sat on the floor covers his face mumbles, “Aw heck no”.

  Pointing at them, Brenda added, “You went for a joy ride, now one of you will sure pay”, walking out of the kitchen.

  Two days later, the four Wiley men sat in the waiting room at the hospital and Shane kept saying, “Oh please not me!” Rocking on the set.

  Sitting right next to him, Stanley was praying to and his wife had found out, as she even packed up moving to her mother’s leaving the four kids with him.

  Silently, Saul stood looking out the window and Shawn sat quiet hanging his head with hands folded.

  Walking into the waiting room, a nurse holding the folder and they are nervous now she said, “The results show that Shawn Garrett Wiley is ninety-nine percent the child’s father”.

  Dropped to his knees Shane saying, “Aw thank you sweet Jesus!” Hands folded up towards the ceiling.
