He shrugged. “I’m sorry, but I have to. You see…” He moved closer to me. My eyes stayed on his, even though I had half a mind to punch him. “I have a much bigger job in mind for you.”
My eyes swooped down to his lips, as they curved up into a smile. “What? I’m not following.”
He snickered and then right there on the blanket, he knelt down on one knee. “You can’t work for me as his babysitter, when I want you to be his aunt…my wife.” He reached into his pocket and retrieved a box. I narrowed my eyes to the box and stared at the beautiful diamond ring. “Will you marry me and make Cody and I the two luckiest men in the world?”
I laughed, mostly in shock from the realization, then nodded. “Wow! Of course, I’ll marry you.” He pulled the ring from the box and slipped into my hand and then stood to his feet and picked me up in his arms. He twirled me around, with me laughing as I gazed down at my engagement ring.
He put me down and my lips went to his. As it deepened, I thought about him, Cody, and how my life was about to change in so many ways. I couldn’t wait for it all to begin.
