“Go on.”
“And we’ll have breakfast in bed.”
“Yeah.”
“And it probably won’t be as good as what I would make but-”
“Careful now. I’ll hold you to that-”
“I hope you do,” he said, giving me a little squeeze. “And then we’ll start fresh.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, lifting my face to look at him.
“I mean you can be anyone you want from now on, as long as you’ll be it with me.”
And just when I thought all the tears had fallen from my eyes, one more slipped out the corner and rolled down my cheek.
Wyatt caught it on his finger and then pulled me to his chest. “How does that sound?”
“Good,” I said, relaxing into him. “That sounds good.”
And for the first time in my life, I felt like I was right where I belonged, at home in his arms and his heart, and I realized I was actually looking forward to the future.
Not because I was unhappy at present, but on the contrary, because I’d never been happier.
