  2013

  Trevor Nickolls posthumously awarded the Blake Prize for religious art.

  Sotheby’s ceases its commitment to Aboriginal fine art sales.

  Kevin Rudd replaces Julia Gillard as Prime Minister and leader of the Labor Party.

  Tony Abbott leads Liberal–National Party coalition to victory and becomes Prime Minister.

  ABBREVIATIONS, REPORTS, AND ACRONYMS

  THE ‘COMPANY’

  The public company established by the Aboriginal Development Commission to market Aboriginal arts and crafts. Originally called Inada Holdings, it became Aboriginal Arts Australia Ltd in 1984.

  ABORIGINAL ARTS BOARD

  A board of the Australia Council established in 1973 and abolished on 30 June 1989. It was replaced by the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Committee (NATSIAC).

  ABORIGINAL ART CENTRES

  Community based arts organisations primarily located in remote Aboriginal communities. Also called craft centres and community arts and crafts organisations.

  ART ADVISERS

  Senior staff of Aboriginal art centres. Also called art coordinators and craft advisors.
