Her Alpha

“When will I be able to do that?” She gazed up into his face. His arms wrapped around her and pulled her close.

“Soon. Your father and I think it will happen tonight, the moon will be at its fullest. With a little practice you will be able to do it at will, like I just did. I can’t wait to see the color of your coat. I hope it’s the color of your hair.”

“I don’t think a red wolf is very likely. Have you ever seen one?” His head shook and he smiled down at her.

“It will probably be painful the first time Rae, more than likely it will be the worst pain you’ve ever felt, but like the love we made, it only hurts the first time.” He warned. Dakota took her hand and led her to the bedroom then helped her out of her sweaty clothes. She expected him to push her down onto the bed but instead he led her to the shower. Rae held her hand under the water testing the temperature. He lifted her over the edge of the tub easily and stepped in behind her. Dakota poured shower gel into his big hand and smoothed it over her skin and into her hair. He kissed her tenderly before pushing her under the spray and rinsing her. Rae picked up the bottle biting her lip unsure. He touched her so easily and she wanted to do the same but she was anxious. Dakota squeezed the bottle filling her hand with gel then put it on the edge of the tub. Taking her hands with his he smoothed her palms over his chest. She looked at the bites she’d made. They weren’t fading but were not so angry looking now. Still holding her hands, Dakota guided her palms over his belly and shoulders then neck, Rae giggled. He turned away from her so she could soap his back. Rae enjoyed tracing the hills and valleys of muscle she found. He was gorgeous. Why hadn’t some savvy woman snapped him up, werewolf or not, she would’ve been on him like a rash if she’d met him before. He had the most beautiful behind and dimples in his lower back. Her hands glided easily over the firm round haunches, desire coursed through her veins. Dakota turned suddenly and pinned her against the tiled wall. His mouth made a path up the front of her throat ending in nibbles along her jaw and in the hollow under her ear. He lifted her easily and settled her on him. Rae wrapped her legs around his waist letting him deeply inside of her. Her arms wove around his neck and she gazed into the deep blue eyes that watched her. He thrust deeply into her.

“Kiss me.” She murmured, Dakota lowered his lips to hers and began a slow sinful exploration of her mouth. The tightening played lightly in her groin. It was shy and only thinking about rearing its pleasurable head. It was so much more fulfilling from the back, she loved it that way. Dakota let her feet down and turned her. “Oh yes.” She moaned when she realized what he meant to do. He thrust into her smoothly, hitting her pubic bone and nudging at her womb. Rae nearly collapsed it felt so wonderful. She pushed back meeting him thrust for thrust, enjoying the joining. The orgasm that was bashful at first bolted through her now like an earthquake. Rae’s cries mingled with Dakota’s groans as it wracked through them both, her muscles seized and convulsed over and over as they fluttered around him and the climax wrung her out like a rag. Rae collapsed back against him, eyes closed and hanging onto his strong arm. Dakota lifted her easily, he wrapped a towel around her and carried her to the bed. Rae watched the blue of his eyes brighten and deepen.

“It won’t be long now, baby. I can sense the change in you.”

Rae rested on his chest listening to the steady beat of his heart. Dakota’s arm was a steel band around her. She felt him ease from the bed and cover her with the quilt that her grandmother made for her twelfth birthday. Awhile later the smell of steak drifted into her room waking her. Rae was starved. She dressed quickly noticing her troll doll hair. Wild red corkscrews jutted out in every direction. There was no way to rescue that. Rae scooped it all together and bound it in a hair tie. She followed her nose to the amazing smell. Dakota looked up when she came into the room, he smiled. “Sit.” He brought her a salad. Rae made a face. She saw his eyes twinkle with amusement. “No?” Her head shook without her thinking about it. He turned and brought her a steak with grilled vegetables. Her eyes closed involuntarily and she breathed in the scent of grilled meat.

  “Mmm….” She moaned.

“Eat.” He kissed the top of her head. “You’ll need your strength.” Dakota sat down across from her and poured dressing over the salad.

“Aren’t you having steak?” Her brows creased.

“I always eat my salad first, but tonight, I will be eating two of them.” He laughed, the sound sung across her nerves and straight into her core. Dakota studied her but continued to eat his salad. Rae cut the meat and nearly inhaled it. Red meat had never been her favorite, but lately she craved it. “You are so beautiful when you eat Rae.” She flushed, what an odd compliment, but she thanked him. “Are you finished?” Rae nodded and stood. “Go get undressed, lie on the bed and wait. It won’t be long. I can smell your chemistry racing. I’ll be there soon.” Rae carried her dishes to the sink and rinsed them and loaded them into the dishwasher.

“Are you sure?” Dakota nodded. “Okay.” Rae went to the bedroom and did as she was told. He hadn’t led her astray yet.

Rae glanced into the mirror often hoping to see something, to catch a glimpse. She didn’t feel different. In fact she felt exactly the same. The sun was dropping quickly in the sky until it was behind the trees over the jogging path. Rae watched the light fade from the window and she heard wolves howl in the distance nowhere near the house. Dakota stood in the doorway unbuttoning his flannel shirt slowly, watching her. He kicked his boots off and placed them in the closet and put his clothes in the hamper. “I don’t know how much longer you have and I don’t know how to make it any easier for you darling. I will stay with you until you’ve changed and once you have, you stay with me. Don’t wander off. I don’t want any harm to come to you. We can run and hunt if you like or we can stay here.” His eyebrows rose suggestively. “Like I told you before, it will hurt.”

“Why will it hurt? If this is what I am supposed to be, why is there pain?” Rae was getting worried. She would try to avoid pain at all costs. “Remember, it won’t last and it’s usually only once. You will be starving once it’s over. Plan on eating, your metabolism is going to change as you do. Are you okay?”

“Of course.” Dakota watched her with a strange look on his face, Rae looked into the mirror. She saw her face elongating and becoming covered with hair that was not quite as red as her usual fiery copper curls. It was more light brown with a red tinge to it. Her eyes grew greener and greener until they were like her fathers. A lightning bolt of pain shot down her back and into her hips then her knees. She wailed with pain. Rae doubled over with the excruciating cramps that were worse than any menstrual cramps she’d ever had. Rae fell to the floor on her hands and knees, her back twisting up and turning wickedly. She could hear bones rearranging, stretching, twisting, joints were popping and crunching. Rae cried out again, it was excruciating. What was that smell? She wondered. It was intoxicating. Rae had never smelled anything so erotic and inviting. Her nose twitched and she inhaled, it was better than the remaining scents of grilled meat. Her legs were twisting and unable to hold her up any longer, Rae dropped to her side on the carpet with a grunt. She watched her hands descending into paws. This was way weirder than anything that has happened so far. Rae closed her eyes and breathed as deeply as she could to combat the pain still twisting through her. Rae heard a dog whine and was unsure if that noise came from her. Opening her eyes to see what was tickling her face she saw the big black blue eyed wolf. He licked her nose and nudged her. Rae closed her eyes for another few seconds and heard the whine again, louder this time and realized it was Dakota. “Get up darling.” Rae heard his voice in her head and opened her eyes. She opened her mouth to speak but found that she could not. A low husky bark was all Rae could manage. “Get up Rae.” Rae clambered to her unsteady new feet. She stood up at the dresser and looked in the mirror at herself. Not bad for a wolf. She supposed. “Does it still hurt?” Dakota asked. Rae shook her big furry head back and forth then shook h
er whole body head to tail. That felt great! No wonder dogs do that so often. Dakota was sitting in the doorway watching her. “Do you want to run with me?” Rae loved to run and had since high school. He turned and loped quickly through the house, hitting the screen door with his head to open it Dakota blocked it open for Rae. She followed him outside into the back yard and around to the front. Everything smelled intense, earth, grass, the air. Strong odors assailed her nose and made her sneeze. Dakota huffed out breath that sounded very much like a laugh. A very large silver wolf waited in the front yard, several smaller wolves waited behind him. Rae recognized the silver wolf as her father and went to him to nuzzle his face with hers. He licked her then turned and started to run. Rae had no problem keeping up with him but she felt uneasiness, and disappointment sweep through her. She slowed and ran beside Dakota and instantly felt better. Those were his emotions that I felt. Finally he was letting her in, trusting her with his emotions. He nipped at her ear as they ran. Her father led them down the same jogging path that Rae was attacked on. They left the path soon and she was glad that they climbed the steep hill that led into the nature preserve. The trail made her a little nervous she didn’t want to see what happened to that man after she’d gone and they had stayed with him. Her father was still in the lead charging up the steep hill. Was he going to hunt an animal? “Yes.” The answer was loud inside her head. Rae stopped running and fell back to the rear of the pack running with her father. She did not like the idea of running some poor animal down and ripping its throat out like Dakota had done to the man that attacked her. Rae loved animals and would not kill one. Dakota was beside her, watching her. “We don’t have to go, we can run if you want then go home. We don’t have to hunt. It is more tradition than necessity in this day and age.”

“I don’t want to kill anything, I just want to run.” She nuzzled his face with her own. “Or we could…”

“Come on.” Dakota distracted her and loped away slowly to be sure that she followed. She could hear the howls in the distance but ignored the yearning to join them. Rae nipped at Dakota’s neck as desire raced through her veins. Dakota snarled menacingly at her. Rae was confused and hurt by this, an overwhelming sense of how much he didn’t want her set like a stone in her chest. Dakota continued to run. He had never denied her before but that was obviously a ‘no.’ Rae stopped to smell something interesting on the ground and followed it away from him. Everything was different in this state. This thing I am following it must be what a rabbit smells like. Smells were so intense, sounds were so loud and she could feel what Dakota felt. Rae looked around, where did he go? A sense of loss and fear raced through her. Suddenly she was frightened because she was supposed to stay with him. “Rae.” He shouted inside her head. “Come.” Seeing him finally, she loped to him with her head and tail down. He stayed at her side and kept an eye on her. Dakota led her home after hours of running and sniffing, through the back yard and inside. He changed back immediately into his human form. Rae followed him through the house to the bedroom she was still in wolf form and didn’t know how to get out of it. Dakota got fresh underwear and pajama bottoms out of a drawer and laid them on top. He went to her drawers and did the same then went to turn the bed down. Rae lay on the floor in the hallway watching him and waiting for instruction on how to turn back. She put her head down on her feet. She was so tired, hungry and thirsty. Dakota said she would be hungry and Rae was famished, starved in fact. Dakota stepped over her and went to the bathroom closing the door behind him. The toilet flushed soon after. “Get up darling. Let’s shower and then we’ll eat.” Rae looked at her hand. She must have drifted off because she did not remember changing back. The shower started, Rae could hear him humming but did not recognize the tune.

He brought her a glass of milk and a cinnamon roll. She looked at it curiously. “You need carbohydrates right now, sugars. You burned a lot of calories changing and running for as long as you did. I find that this works best, but if you are craving something else, just say and I will get it. Everyone is different.” Tears welled in her eyes but she kept her head down and picked at her pastry. “Rae?” Dakota reached across and lifted her chin to look into the watery pools. “What’s wrong?” She shook her head and jerked her chin from his fingertips. “Talk to me.” Rae finished her milk and left the pastry on the table. It was very late and she was extremely tired. Once she was under the covers she faced the wall and hid her face. The mattress dipped as he crawled in behind her. “Rae.” Dakota spooned her and wrapped a strong arm around her middle. “When wolves have sex, they are compromised until it is complete. I had to reject you sweetheart for your own good. I cannot defend you if I am stuck inside of you, not until the tie is complete.”

“I don’t understand.” She sniffled. She felt like her heart had been ripped from her chest. Her stomach was in knots and the ache in her chest overwhelming.

“When a male wolf is engaged in intercourse, part of the penis swells inside the female to ensure maximum sperm transfer. He will stay stuck inside her until the transfer is complete. If we are stuck together and someone or something attacks or threatens us, I cannot protect you. I wasn’t rejecting you. It was only while it could be dangerous. If you want to, we can do those things at home. Okay?” He nuzzled her hair. Rae wiggled turning to face him and buried her face in his chest.

“How do I change back faster like you did?” Her eyes were closed and she was curled up against him. She felt better now with the explanation. How could she doubt him? He had only ever looked out for her, watched over her, saw to her needs and loved her. Anytime she desired him he had given to her, and always tended to her needs first. She loved this man and she knew that he loved her. She would not doubt him again she vowed to herself.

“You need to relax and calm down. You were probably still excited. It will be easier next time.

“I could feel your feelings while we were out there, but not now.”

“I know. It’s easier to communicate through feelings out there so I let you. I am going to let you in Rae, don’t be afraid and if you are tell me, I’ll make it stop.” She nodded. Warmth and a heart twisting love enveloped her. Rae could feel how much he loved and wanted her. How much he desired her and wanted to protect and to take care of her. Her heart swelled with the enormous amount of emotion and love she felt. Rae straightened and stretched.

“Oh James.” She moaned writhing beside him. Dakota watched her, feeling his emotions and basking in them. Rae reached for him, wanting him, wanting to share the wonderful feelings in her, the desire that was coursing through her. “Please….” She sighed. He stilled suddenly and shushed her he was listening to something. Dakota jumped from the bed and headed for the hallway just as Rae heard the back door slam open and hit the kitchen wall. She stayed behind Dakota as he ran for the kitchen. A large angry silver wolf stood in her dining room. He was snarling and growling low in his throat. His hackles were raised and his tail and ears were down.

“Daddy what’s wrong?” Rae stepped from behind Dakota and walking right up to him. The change coursed through him then, fur turned to skin, his hair turned dark, legs elongated while his face grew round and human. He stood now before her, naked and unashamed. “Daddy? Has something happened?” Rae kept her eyes politely on his face.

“You!” He pointed at Dakota. “You took her away from her first hunt! She was to have her first kill tonight, you knew that! You know the traditions.”

“Daddy, I didn’t want to kill anything. I didn’t know it was required that I kill something and besides I can’t do it. I’m sorry but I can’t. I eat meat but I could never kill the cow Daddy.” Rae touched his arm gently.

“Shut up Rae. He knew that he disappointed the pack by leading you away from the hunt.” He pointed accusingly at Dakota. “I told you that you both had a hard road ahead, you are both new here. You should’ve stuck with the tradition.”

“It’s not required that she ever kill Joshua, she’s alpha, and she should be served. T
he hunt is a choice. Alphas have not always hunted, back in ancient times an alpha only fought during battle.” Dakota’s voice was even and soothing.

“How would you know of ancient times? The tradition was destroyed tonight Dakota, because of you. The pack is waiting for her first kill. You know how delicate politics are in this pack right now, but not hunting tonight it was like she said that she was better than them.”

“Tell them she wasn’t ready, it’s happened before. Make an excuse, she’s half human, she doesn’t understand, her change wasn’t enduring. She will go next time and she will make a kill, I will teach her how. We will train.” Dakota offered.

“You know the rules, you have to defend her, and you have to take her punishment for disobeying her alpha.” Dakota nodded.

“As you wish.” Dakota dropped his head out of respect and then pulled his shirt over his head.

“What’s going on? What is he talking about Dakota?” Rae grabbed his arm with both hands.

“He is saying that since I let you break tradition that I have to fight him for it. He won’t punish you because he’s male. His mate would usually be the one to punish you, since there isn’t an alpha female. I have to take your punishment. It will be fine darling, don’t worry.” Dakota patted her hand and unfastened his pants.

“Outside, two minutes.” Joshua changed back into the silver wolf and went outside.

  “What will happen?” Rae worried.

“He wants to fight me darling, don’t worry. I will be fine and I will do my best not to hurt him. Maybe if he knocks the crap out of me he will feel better about it.” Dakota grinned at her.
