She shivered as his lips touched her. Then he moved off her and began pumping into her until she felt liquid fire in her belly and began to come. She moaned his name throughout her orgasm, clenching the pillow tightly. He stopped moving long enough to let her rest then he slammed into her again. She cried out, and he immediately stopped.

“Sweetheart, did I hurt you?” He said with alarm.

“No, it just feels so good.”

“I want you to come again.”

She liked the sound of that and pushed against him with each stroke. Her breathing grew heavy, and he reached under to rub her swollen nub. She jumped at the intrusion of his fingers against her. She was too sensitive for him to touch but she kept quiet because within seconds she could feel another orgasm threatening to tear through her. He continued to rub in a circular motion, and his hips joined. He kept coaxing her.

“Come for me. Give it to me.”

She exploded at his words. Her body became weak, and she prayed he would come soon to let her rest. She didn’t need to wait long.

“Ohh.” He grunted and then he was spilling himself into her, moving his hips hard. When he finished, he pulled her back, and she was sitting on his lap with their union intact. He cuddled her kissing her hair.

“That was one of the best birthday presents I ever received.”

She smiled to herself because he had no idea what she had in store for him.

“Oh, so fucking me is a present?”

“It always is. Don’t you know how much I love you? Everything you give to me is a gift. Are you going back to sleep?”

The room had started to grow light with the dawn, but he had taken a lot of energy out of her, and she decided to go back to bed. Later when she woke, Xander was once again curled around her. She was against his chest, and she kissed it.

  “You getting up?” He mumbled.

“Yes, I have things to do. Remember you promised to stay here until I call you.”

“Don’t take too long. I want to go to the beach today.”

  “I won’t. I will need about a half hour.”

She got out of bed and went to his suitcase, finding a t-shirt that he wore the day before. She loved wearing things he had already worn. His smell enveloped her. She looked up and noticed he was watching her.

  “No panties?”

“Why, do you have something in mind?”

“You better go before I tell you what’s on my mind.”

She hurried out of the bedroom, pulling the t-shirt up just enough to reveal her bare ass. In the kitchen, she prepared his birthday breakfast, pancakes and bacon with warm maple syrup. She made fresh coffee and heard him on the stairs.

  “Xander, you promised,” she yelled.

“I can’t resist the smell. You made bacon. Can I come down?”

  She huffed, “Yes, come here.”

He finished descending the stairs, and she saw that his hair was wet from a shower. He was wearing a pair of board shorts, and he smelled delectable as he took her in his arms to kiss her.

  “Where’s the bacon?”

  “In the warming drawer.”

He located the drawer and removed the dish, shoving two pieces of bacon in his mouth.

“Hey, save room for pancakes,” she chided as she placed a stack of four in front of him.

  “How spoiled am I?”

“Very, but you deserve it, and I want to spoil you.”

Her phone rang, and she shut the stove off to take the call. He was curious as to who it was since she went outside the slider to have a conversation. He watched as she gesticulated with her hands while she talked. She came back in after finishing the call.

  “What was that all about?”

“Just eat. I’ll tell you about it later.”

She joined him, eating one pancake and a slice of bacon. He scowled at her, but she didn’t eat more. Her phone chirped just as she finished washing their plates and she dried her hands on his t-shirt that she wore. He watched her look at her phone and smile.

“Are you ready for your next surprise?”

“Aww, Ava, you have already made enough fuss for my birthday.”

  “This is your present.”

She typed on her phone, and he heard his phone ping a half a minute later. He picked it up, and she watched as his mouth dropped open. He looked at her and then back at the phone. She waited for the backlash for her extravagance. He ran his hand through his damp hair.

“It has Brownstone leather interior. Do you like the black stripe down the middle?”

“Oh my God, how did you… Why would you do this?”

She went to him, “I love you, and I wanted you to have this.”

He continued to gaze at the picture. She went to the living room and removed something from under the couch cushion.

“Here, this has all the features.”

“Fuck, Ava, you bought me a Corvette Stingray. Why?”

“If you have to ask why then you don’t know me. Please accept this gift and don’t argue with me.”

“So you got the rental to see how I would like it?”

  “Yes.”

  “Suppose I didn’t?”

“Then I would have called the salesman and said no deal. I’ve been planning this for a few weeks. Your car will be ready when we get back to New York.”

He was ecstatic. She bought him a Corvette. He wanted to go home right now and drive his car, not the rental. Then he started thinking, was this how it was going to be, having a wife whose bank account was worth much more than mine? Could he handle it without feeling emasculated? She would never throw the money in his face, she never did. He realized that the money was part of her and he would need to accept it.

He had gotten so upset about the expensive watch she had given him for Valentine’s Day last year; he wasn’t going to give her the same response.

“I love it. The only thing better was you in my bed this morning.”

The present changed his attitude towards his birthday. They went for a drive around Key West so he could get a better feel for the Corvette. He put the top down even though he would have to get used to his car not having one. He didn’t care; he had his dream car. He would terminate the lease on the Infiniti as soon as he got home.

That afternoon they went to the beach and soaked up some sun. Even Ava with her ivory skin was lightly tanned. He watched her from the corner of his eye. Today she had on a gold bikini, much like the silver one except for a larger top that covered more of her breasts. It still had the same effect on him.

“So what else do you have planned for me today?” Xander asked.

“Would you like to come out here on the beach tonight? We didn’t get to do it last night.”

“I think I would like that. I still can’t believe you bought me a ‘Vette. What made you decide to do that?”

“You had talked about our father’s Corvette so much, and I saw how your eyes lit up when you did. You also mentioned you wanted to get one eventually. I thought why not now? You won’t be driving it much around the city, but we can take trips to Suzanne’s and upstate.”

“You know I haven’t been to Janelle and Bill’s for awhile. I miss the kids. Janelle said that Jimmy has been asking for me. He was my little buddy when I lived there.”

Ava saw the look on his face. He needed children in his life, and she hoped she could give them to him. She would call Dr. Emory as soon as she got back home. She had never asked specifically why she could not have children. Frankly, she didn’t want to hear the answer because it tore her heart to shreds to think about it. But now she had a reason. The thought of Liam crept into her mind, but she forced it away.

The afternoon passed into early evening, and they went inside to shower as well as find something to eat. She wasn’t very hungry, but she would eat for the sake of Xander. He had commented on how she looked thin, almost as thin as she was in Las Vegas. But that wasn’t true; she was at least a few pounds more than she was back then.

When darkness fell, they grabbed a blanket, a bottle of wine and two glasses then went to sit on the beach. The sky was clear, and the moon was almost in half phase. She lay on the blanket to look up. Xander leaned over her and feathered kisses over her face. She closed her eyes to the sensation of his lips upon her, feeling butterflies in her stomach.

“I love you. Thank you for making my birthday so memorable.”

She fisted his hair and held him against her lips as she probed his mouth with her tongue. They made out like teenagers at a drive-in movie. He sucked at her neck and earlobes. A soft breeze was blowing off the water and with it came the salty smell of the ocean. The night was perfect.

“I want to tell you something. I want to marry you tomorrow,” he whispered into her ear.

  “You do?”

He moved away, and she sat upright.

“I do and not because you bought me an absolutely fabulous birthday gift but because you’re all I want.” He began singing a few bars from U2’s “All I Want Is You, ” and she became teary-eyed. This time tomorrow she would be Mrs. Alexander Wilder.

“What time is the appointment with the Minister?”

“He said anywhere between ten in the morning to one in the afternoon.”

“Tomorrow we will get up early, get the marriage license at the courthouse and get married.”

“Is this our secret? Are we telling anyone?”

“No, maybe after the ceremony and reception in May. I don’t want your father or Michael coming after me with a shotgun.”

“But I can’t get pregnant so why would they do that?”

“They still aren’t sure about me so I would keep it under wraps.”

  Chapter 19

The next morning, Ava had a hard time containing herself. She kept saying to herself, Mrs. Ava Wilder. She would be a married woman by this afternoon. Xander was more subdued. He took his time shaving and combing his hair, but she could tell he was nervous.

He kept asking her if he should go casual or he should put on his suit that he brought for an intimate dinner. He got his answer when Ava came out of the closet wearing a yellow sundress and slipped on her flip flops. Her tanned skin offset the yellow. She had put her hair up in a ponytail, and he couldn’t resist kissing her neck.

“You made me sleep in the other room, and now you are going to get me heated before we get married?”

He had told her that he would sleep in one of the guest bedrooms so they would be apart until their wedding night. She barely slept for two reasons: one she missed sleeping with him and two, she had anxiety about getting married. It took several hours for her to fall asleep and when Xander woke her by gently calling to her through the closed door at eight that morning, she felt groggy.

He slipped on a pair of khaki shorts and a white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled. He once again checked his hair in the mirror, but it was perfect. He took her by the hand, and they walked down the carpeted stairs to the Corvette outside.

On the way to the courthouse, Ava began to wring her hands. Xander was deep in thought and didn’t see her doing it until they parked at the Monroe County Courthouse. He turned in his seat to her before he got out.

“We don’t have to do this if you’re unsure. I will do whatever you want.”

  “I want to,” she squeaked.

He got out of the car and went around to help her out of her side. The line at the county clerk was several people deep. He held her hand as they approached the desk. They explained to the clerk what they needed, and the woman took their information and IDs. She handed them their marriage license seven minutes later.

Ava heard the rushing of her blood in her ears as her heart pounded. She couldn’t believe they were going to get married. He placed his hand on her back, leading her to the car without saying anything. When she was seated, he reached over and pulled the seatbelt around her, planting a soft kiss on her lips.

She knew what he was doing. He was protecting what was his, and though she hated his overprotective nature, she realized it would get worse once she took the Wilder name. He wanted her to be with him a long time.

He slipped into the driver’s seat, buckling his seat belt and then turned to her.

  “We forgot one detail.”

  “What did I forget?”

“It’s not what you forgot; it’s what we forgot. We didn’t think about wedding rings, not that we can openly wear them.”

She smiled and unzipped her purse taking out a black velvet box, opening it, she revealed their rings. These were the ones he had purchased for them and given the first time he had made love to her in the lake house. She had brought them with the hopes that he would agree to marry her in Key West.

“I took these with me hoping that we would be married here.”

“Good thinking. I think we can wear these without raising any suspicions from anyone. We both have worn these before.”

He followed the directions Ava gave him to get to the minister’s home. She had called him while they waited for their marriage license. The minister had told them he was available and his wife and son were free to be witnesses at their nuptials.

Ava checked her makeup in the mirror embedded in the windshield visor during the drive.

“You can’t possibly make yourself look any more beautiful than you already are.” He placed his hand on her knee and skimmed her leg until he was touching her upper thigh.

  “Xander…” She said almost breathless.

He removed his hand because the smoldering look in her eyes told him that he was having an effect on her. She squirmed in her seat, and he found himself hardening. He took a few deep breaths, and he felt himself shrink. She, on the other hand, continued to shift and fidget. Xander had stoked a fire deep in her belly, and she squeezed her thighs together hoping to stop the throbbing.

At the minister’s home, Xander took her hand and held it tightly as they made their way to the door. They were greeted by a heavyset woman with blonde hair framing her face in a stylish bob. She told them her name was Ellie then led them to meet her husband Derek, who was the minister. He was dressed in a plain white dress shirt, gray dress slacks, and matching tie; his head was shaved bald, and he had soft brown eyes the color of milk chocolate.

He escorted them to a small room with a lectern at the front. His son, a tall, thin boy of about seventeen was the spitting image of him but with a thick wave of blonde hair. They took their places at the front of the room, and Derek opened a book on the lectern.

“Say, Just Married,” Ellie said as she snapped a few pictures of them.

The ceremony lasted all of five minutes, and Ava cried through the entire thing. Xander wiped at her tears with his handkerchief, dabbing at his own eyes after he placed the ring on her finger.

Xander had kissed her chastely on the lips until they were in the car. Then he pulled her to him, pressing his lips hard against hers. When he broke the kiss, she gave him an intense stare.

  “Drive fast.”

He didn’t have to ask what she meant.

  “Put on your seatbelt.”

He weaved through the early afternoon traffic as fast and carefully as he could. He wanted her as much as her eyes told him she wanted him. As they drove towards home, the sky began to darken, and when he pressed the code on the gate, tiny droplets started to fall.

He hit the button for the top as he floored the ‘Vette into the circular drive. The roof was secured as soon as he pulled in front of the door. She didn’t wait for him and got out of the car, running under the vestibule overhang. She pressed the security code into the keypad and felt the heat of him behind her as she reached for the door handle. He placed his hand over hers to stop her.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

She was bewildered at his tone, “What did I do?”

“You’re my wife now, and I want to carry you over the threshold.”

He lifted her in his arms and pushed the door open. She reached to shut the
door just as a deluge of rain started to pound the house. Xander didn’t wait for an invitation. He put her down and pinned her against the door, planting kisses over her face and neck. His hands roughly cupped her breasts, and he pinched her nipples hard enough for her to feel a shock of pain.

He raised her dress and worked his fingers in her panties to her sex. She was slick with desire, and his fingers pushed through the wetness until he found her opening. She moaned as he slipped into her, plunging his fingers inside. She worked at opening his shorts, releasing him. His cock was hot like molten steel, and a bead of pre-cum glistened on the surface.

He removed his fingers from her to push his shorts and boxers down then reached for her panties. She beat him to it by shimmying out of them. He pushed her up the door, positioning her above him. His hands held her under her arms, and he slowly let her down as he sank into her.

The door was multi-paneled oak, not like the smooth door of his apartment. She was uncomfortable and Xander, sensing her discomfort, carried her to the area rug and gently laid her down. He managed to keep them intact, and he raised himself over her, his hands on either side of her body and began pistoning his cock in a fast motion.

She reached up and unbuttoned his shirt, desperate to put her hands against the smooth, tanned flesh of his chest. Her nails scraped against his skin as he moved above her and he groaned. She closed her eyes to the sensation of him being inside her, moving her hips to meet his thrusts.

Her orgasm was building, Ava could feel the rush of heat throughout her body as her release grew closer. She clenched him tightly inside her.

“Come for me; your body is mine.”

She didn’t need any coaxing as she fell apart around him, sex pulsing, eyes closed, mouth opened, face contorted. When she opened her eyes, he had stilled his movements and was gazing at her.

“I love watching you come, especially when it’s me making you do it.”

“You didn’t come yet, why are you stopping?”

“Because I want to savor this, I want to make you come so much you will beg me to stop.”

He was as good as he promised, making her come two more times before he found his own release. Afterward, she lay in his arms, head on his chest, listening to his heart and the pounding rain outside. She didn’t know how long they lay there like that but when she woke, the rain was coming down lighter and Xander was asleep next to her.
