  Epilogue

  Frank

I LOOKED AROUND, THE GLASS OF MULLED wine in my hand. I couldn’t keep the smile off my face.

Our house was filled with people, coming and going. Holiday music was playing in the background as people smiled and laughed, all having a good time. My place had sat empty with just me or the occasional visitor. It still took me off guard how lonely life had been before Karina. I couldn’t believe that had been my life. Not when everything was brighter and better with her in it.

We’d been living together for two years and been engaged for the last three months.

Catching her eye as she talked to Ruby and Daisy by the Christmas tree, I tried to get control over my body, but just like that afternoon in the coffee shop, she sparked it to life. But who could blame me? She was fucking stunning standing there. Her legs looked sinfully delicious, tanned and toned, her feet in black patent leather heels, her sweet body in a hunter-green satin dress that the moment the last person said good bye tonight, would be around her waist, and I’d be balls deep in her. But it was more than that. Her eyes had been sparkling with a secret all night. One that had been just ours the last couple of hours.

The little minx had dropped a bombshell on my lap only seconds before Ruby had shown up.

  A couple of hours earlier

“Remember how we talked about the door being open for more?” she’d asked, and something about the tightness in her voice made me stop fixing my tie and look over to where she was sitting.

At her vanity in our bedroom, she was putting her makeup on. But at that moment, she wasn’t looking at herself in the mirror making sure the red tint on her lips was just right.

  No.

Her eyes were pinned on me.

  “Yeah.”

“What would you think if I told you the house was going to be a little cozier in seven months?” she asked, turning completely, and I took in the nervousness she seemed to be radiating.

I’d sensed something was up. She’d been anxious and stressed out, but I had thought it was the Christmas party she was planning. Her family and mine were going to be there, and even though the initial shock of our age difference had been an issue with her parents, they had grown accustomed to the idea and were excited about our wedding.

“Seven months,” I repeated. Is she saying what I think?

“I know you said we’d deal with whatever happened in life. But then again, I know how you felt about kids and stuff before us. If you’re just saying you were open to more just to say it, I think we really need to clear things up because—”

I didn’t let her say another word. Rushing to her side, taking her left hand in mine, I looked up at her. Jesus, she was scared. Worried and scared. And it was my job to make it all better.

“You saying you’re going to have my baby?” I asked, and she nodded as she worried her bottom lip.

“Are you mad?” she whispered, and I laughed before taking her into my arms, lifting her from the vanity chair and to our bed so I could settle her onto my lap, where she belonged.

“Just when I think I don’t think my heart could love you more, you do something to prove me otherwise,” I whispered. She smiled as a tear fell, and I quickly brushed it away with my thumb. “I fucking love you, baby. Thank you for giving me this.” I set my hand on her flat stomach, and she melted into my body even deeper.

  “You mean that?”

“Quite frankly, honey, I don’t think I could mean anything more than this,” I softly said, looking down and trying to imagine her swollen with my baby, and then another thing popped up in my head.

  “Three.”

“Three?” she asked, confused and obviously entertained.

  “Let’s have three.”

“Let’s start with these two first.”

“What?” I stilled, and she smiled so damn big I didn’t know how her face didn’t hurt.

“I saw a doctor. I didn’t know this could happen, and they did an ultrasound.” Bringing her right hand up, I noticed she was holding something. The black and white picture was fuzzy, but right there were two clear circles.

Bold letters were typed on the ultrasound picture. A and B.

“Twins?” I looked up at her in wonder. “You’re the keeper of undreamt dreams.”

“Frank Titan, ever the romantic dilf.” She nuzzled my nose against hers just as the doorbell chimed.

  Present

I clinked on my glass and got everyone’s attention. I crooked my finger to my girl. She grinned and walked over to me.

The moment she was within reach, I wrapped an arm around her back, pulling her close beside me, and cleared my throat.

“About two years ago, when I met this incredible woman, I had no idea how in over my head I was,” I joked, and everyone laughed. “I’m told by my friends”—I tilted my head towards Enzo, who was holding his new woman in his arms—“I used to be somewhat of an ass.”

“You were!” Enzo shouted, and chuckles rang in the air.

“I used to think the meaning of life was work.”

“Used to?” someone joked, and Karina’s soft body shook with silent laughter in my arms. Okay. A lot might have changed in my life but being a workaholic hadn’t. But I was less of one. I took time to enjoy with Karina just like she took time off to enjoy with me. We’d traveled all over and had planned our honeymoon in Coast Rica.

“Karina changed that. Time with her changed that,” I said seriously, my own throat tight and my voice a little deeper. “Her patience and love helped me become a better man.” Awes and oohs sounded out from the party goers before I continued.

“As many of you know, I somehow even managed to convince her to marry me.” This time, her laughter wasn’t silent. “Tonight, however, she gives me the privilege of telling my daughter, Ruby,”—I made eye contact with her—“Remember that thing you asked for before Karina moved in?”

The confusion cleared from her eyes, and I watched as they slowly went from surprise to excitement.

“Oh, my God! No? Are you serious!” She jumped with excitement before turning to whisper into her man’s ear, and I grinned.

“Looks like not only are we going to ask you guys to keep your calendars open for our wedding, but a baby shower!” I announced and felt my woman’s weight at my side as our family and friends cheered and came up to give us their congratulations.

  Life was pretty fucking fantastic.
