  Laura walks toward me slowly.

“No one touches what’s mine either.”

  Chapter 80

  Laura

“Is it weird that we’re doing this?” I look up at Dax, feeling like a complete fucking idiot.

“Darlin’, I think we have surpassed weird. This is just another day for us,” he says with a smile. He passes me the bouquet of flowers. I take them and lay them on top of my mom’s headstone before I slide to the ground in front of it.

“I don’t know if you’re somewhere you can hear me or not. I miss you Mom. I miss seeing you and talking to you, and just being in the room with you. There were so many times that I wished you were still here with me. I know you’re better off where you are. That doesn’t stop me from wishing things were different though. I wanted to introduce you to your grandson for a long time now, I just didn’t know how. Cory has a lot of light in him just like you did. He’s attentive and perfect, Mama. You would be proud of him.” Tears fall down my cheeks.

Dax kneels down next to me.

“I’m the man that took her virginity,” he says before I laugh.

“Dax, what the hell? I wasn’t a virgin!” I squeal.

“Shut up, Laura. No other man compared to the way I popped you. It was like a whole new cherry there, sweetheart,” he says as I laugh harder.

“Nevertheless... I am the man that impregnated her. I plan on doin’ that more often if she lets me. Your daughter is one hell of a fighter. She has a heart that doesn’t stop carin’. She looks at the world differently and she makes me a better man for it. There are a million things I could say about her, but then she’d slap the shit out of me for ramblin’.” I giggle as he talks so seriously to the headstone.

“She has shown me what it means to love. I love her. I love her tits. I love her lips when they’re wrapped around my dick.” Someone clears their throat as my mouth hangs open. Dax turns to see who it is. A man stands there looking disgusted as I try to hold in a laugh.

“What? If you don’t love that shit, man, your woman’s doin’ it wrong,” Dax says. The man quickly walks away before Dax turns back to what he was doing as I lose it.

“Shhh. I have somethin’ important to ask her.” He cuts his eyes at me and I stop laughing.

I suck my lips between my teeth. Dax starts talking again.

“Where was I? Oh, yeah. Her lips around my dick. That’s always a plus. We made a little person. That was the most important thing. She is the best mother any kid could ask for. She puts Cory before her in everything she does. She makes me proud to call her my baby momma.” He is insane. There is really something wrong with him.

“More importantly, she makes me happy. She knows when I need her before I even say it. She knows what to say to make my heart leap in my chest. She knows when to give me space. She makes me feel like my life is worth livin’. That’s not somethin’ I’ve always had. So, now I ask you this…. Would you allow me the honor of marryin’ your daughter?” His words floor me. I was barely ready to have Cory… and now this?

“Dax, I don’t know.” He cuts his eyes at me again.

“Me and your momma are havin’ a moment here.” I suck my lips back into my mouth stifling a laugh. God, I love this man.

“Did she agree?” I finally ask after we sit in an awkward silence.

“She’s a little worried that you won’t want me.” His eyes drop. I scoot closer to him, lifting his chin in my hand.

“I don’t know that I’m ready to be married yet, Dax. After everything that’s happened, I just need some time. I do love you. More than you can possibly know.” I know that hurt him. I know how much he loves me, but I do need some time.

“How about this. How about I ask you and you say yes. I slide that ring that’s in my pocket, on your finger. I take you home and fuck you until you can’t walk, but we don’t set a date. We can wait as long as you need.” Tears fill my eyes as I lean in and kiss him.

  “Then that’s a yes.”
