My Irish Kings: A Mafia Reverse-Harem Romance (Quick & Dirty Book 2)

When the door swings closed, I’m left with Magnar—Magnar, awake and sitting up!

My head spins as I try to make sense out of everything that has happened in the last few minutes.

One minute ago, I thought I was doomed.

  I thought Magnar would die.

I thought Jace and X were dead.

“I’m sorry, Way,” Magnar says, his voice soft. “I would have done something sooner but you were in my line of fire. I couldn’t risk shooting you or risk him using you as a shield.”

I stare at Magnar. He looked almost dead not two minutes ago—lifeless in my arms when I shielded him.

But his body did feel warm.

He’s okay? He’d faked how badly he’d been shot? Faked unconsciousness?

Try as I might, I couldn’t get these puzzle pieces to fit together.

“Sorry I’m late coming back to the party.” Liam strolls in through the door, followed by several more men I recognise from my time at HQ.

I heave in a breath, adrenaline flooding my body like a jolt. “Grab him!” I point to Liam. “He’s on Keegan’s side.”

Magnar lets out a chuckle. “No, he’s not.”

Shit. Magnar still thinks his friend is innocent. He doesn’t know Liam was the one who shot him. “But I heard him admit to shooting you for Keegan. He—”

Magnar pulls me up onto the bed and places my hands on his chest, right where the bandages start. “Take them off.”

I stare at him. He seriously wants to get naked now? His chest feels hard and warm under my hands. Despite myself and the surroundings, my blood heats.

Magnar grins and shakes his head slightly as if he can read the thoughts flitting in my mind. “See what’s underneath.”

I blink several times before my hands start to work, peeling back the bloody bandages to reveal…unmarred skin.

  No bullet wounds.

  No blood.

  “Y-you were faking it?”

  Waylyn

“Asshole bastard, piece of—” I litter the room with curses, each one more colourful than the last.

It takes several minutes and the safe return of Jace and X before I am able to calm down long enough for someone to explain to me what really happened.

  Turns out Magnar wasn’t shot.

Liam is not a traitor. He only made it seem like he was. It was all part of their grand plan. Make everyone so focused on the war, they couldn’t see the real covert battle being fought.

“It was actually Liam’s idea,” Magnar says. “Pretend he’d flipped and shot me in order to draw Keegan out. Make him think he’d won.”

I shake my head. “How the hell did you manage to get the doctors and nurses to play along? Or this hospital to admit you?”

Liam grins. “Money talks, little girl. Speaking of… I’ve got a few palms that I’ve got to keep greased.” Liam quietly backs out of the room, taking the other men with him. Perhaps that’s true. Or perhaps he wanted to give me, Magnar, Jace and X a chance to speak privately.

I stare around the room, unable to believe what I’d just heard.

Magnar, X and Jace are all smiling sheepishly at me.

“So you were all in this?” I ask.

“Well, I wasn’t,” Jace says. “Not at first.”

“But I told him privately after you guys arrived at the hospital,” X admits.

“Why didn’t you tell me,” I wail, the memory of my grief shattering me all over again.

Magnar pulls me into his side and I bury my head in his chest. His heartbeat is strong against my ears, the sound a comfort. I press my hand over the heart I thought might stop beating not minutes ago and beg it not to stop before mine.

“I’m sorry, Way. But we had to make your grief believable. Keegan would be looking at you most of all. If you weren’t properly upset, then he’d smell a trap.”

Feelings clash inside me. Anger at being forced to believe I’d almost lost part of my family. Relief from it all being a lie.

I understand why they kept me in the dark. But I hate it. And I still have a right to be angry as fuck over it.

I sit up and punch Magnar right in the shoulder where he was supposedly shot.

Magnar has the decency to wince.

“Never, ever, EVER do that to me again! Or I really will shoot you.” I fall against him, crying with relief as Jace and X huddle around me. I feel their hands on my shoulder, in my hair, on my back.

  I can’t believe it’s over.

  Keegan is gone.

My heart is full once again. With my family back in one piece.

  Epilogue

After we are “discharged” from the hospital, the four of us return to Magnar’s apartment where we shut ourselves away for days getting reacquainted. Our sex and our touches tinged with the fear of how things very easily may not have gone our way and relief that they did.

I don’t know how X managed it, but he saved Keegan’s head and mounted it on a spike over Dublin Castle as a sign that we had won.

  There was no war.

Many of Keegan’s men fled to friendly chapters across the country and abroad. Some laid down their arms and pledged to the King family. Others simply…disappeared into Dublin’s fabric.

Over the next few months, things calmed down and it was business as usual. Well, as usual as it gets for the King family.

The four of us purchased a larger penthouse a few buildings over with six bedrooms, one for each of us so we had our own space and extra for…future additions to the family.

It was only a matter of time before I fell pregnant—three virile men filling me with their seed on a daily basis, giving me more orgasms than I thought I could ever handle.

Our baby would be the most spoiled child this side of the Atlantic. And the most deadly. He or she would be punching and kicking before he could crawl. Shooting down targets before he could talk.

I’m already planning the nursery conversion with Charli, who’d become something of a best friend to me.

Magnar and I married in a church in front of our men and invited leaders of the underworld.

We did it so we could access Renkin’s inheritance that he’d left for me. But it’d been just a formality. The reception dinner we held afterwards was a chance to solidify our standing as one of the “power couples” of the underworld and to network with the other leaders.

Magnar, Jace, X and I keep our true relationship hidden from public eyes. It isn’t anybody’s business. Although anybody with any perception would notice the way X hovers near me like an overprotective mother cub or the way Jace brushes his fingertips across my shoulder or lower back.

I laugh as Magnar whirls me around the dance floor, racing away from Jace and X, who are both trying to cut in and were turning it into a game.

“Excuse me,” a male voice cuts through my laughter.

Magnar halts, dropping my hand so he can face this intruder.

I feel X and Jace appear tight at my side as we stare down this newcomer.

He is tall and broad, incredibly handsome with an intense stare that feels like it cuts right through me. Tanned skin darkened with stubble, a shock of midnight hair sweeping across his strong forehead. He’s dressed in a tailored black Armani suit. My mind immediately cuts to a panther: sleek, dark and dangerous as hell.

Behind him at a respectable distance are two suited bodyguards, their earpieces and stiff stance giving them away.

“Forgive my intrusion.” His accent sounds…American, but I’m not knowledgeable enough to recognise from which part. “But I came a long way to speak with you…” his dark, intelligent gaze cuts across the four of us, apparently seeing more than most, “…all of you, it appears.”

  “And you are?” I ask.

The dark stranger nods. “My name is Roman Tyrell.”

I recognise the surname being that of one of the most powerful mafia families from the United States. What is he doing here?

X stiffens beside me. I can already see his br
ain calculating all the ways he could kill this intruder and dispose of his body without alerting any of the other guests, who are all still dancing and milling about as if nothing is wrong.

Magnar, ever the diplomat, nods. “Mr Tyrell. We’re honoured you could attend our wedding.”

“Roman, please,” he says, his voice like silk.

“You’re a bit late,” Jace says with a snide tone. “You missed the ceremony.”

“I’m Waylyn King,” I say, presenting my hand to Roman, stepping in between Jace, X and the stranger before tensions can erupt. “You’ll forgive the jumpiness of my family. We’ve been through a lot these last few months.”

“Naturally. Which is why I’ve been patient. So far. Is there somewhere more private we can talk?” Roman turns his eyes on me. “I believe I can shed some light on the identity of your father.”

I’m shaking as Magnar guides Roman and me into a private sitting room located off the main ballroom where our reception is being held.

Jace and X follow us, as do Roman’s two bodyguards. It’s crowded by the time the door is closed.

  I’m struggling to breathe.

I didn’t have anyone less than six months ago. Now I might have a father.

“What’s this about her father, then?” Magnar asks, his voice carrying a warning.

You better not be fucking with her or you’re fucking with me.

Roman slips his hand into his jacket, holding out his palm when Magnar, Jace and X flinch. He pushes open his jacket to reveal folded papers in his pocket. Not a gun.

He hands me the wad of papers.

They look like letters, old and creased, faded ink. I unfold them and start to read.

  Dear Giovanni,

I know you’re ashamed of me, but surely you cannot be ashamed of what our love has produced. I enclose a photo of young Waylyn Grace. She has your eyes and your hair. See?

“I found them in my father’s things months ago,” Roman explains. “Only yesterday connecting your name from your recent wedding announcement. I would have come sooner if I had realised sooner. Forgive me.”

They were letters signed from Maria Grace, my mother. To a man named Giovanni Tyrell.

  Roman’s father.

I look up and hold Roman’s gaze. “Is Giovanni…?”

The corners of his mouth turn down. “He’s no longer with us, I’m afraid.”

I let out a low breath. “So I have no father,” I say with bitterness.

“No, but…” Roman’s voice sounds strained, “…you have found a brother.”

A brother. A bud of joy flits inside me as I look over Roman’s face. My God. We have the same eyes, our father’s eyes. How did I not see it before?

“Then…” I say, “…you must call me Waylyn.” I open my arms and Roman steps into them, the loves of my life crowding around us, ready to welcome the newest member of our family.

I spend some time dancing with Roman, getting to know him. He has to return to New York this evening but promises that he will return soon with his wife, Julianna, and their son, Mercutio, my nephew.

  I have a nephew!

Then, likewise, I promise to visit him and his family.

Only six months ago, I felt desperate and helpless. Now I have a family, a family that is growing by the day.

How did I get so lucky?

After the guests go home, Magnar, Jace, X and I have our own ceremony in private, pledging our lifelong commitment to each other.

We place rings on each other, a band of three vines weaved around a centre ring, symbolizing our love.

Our bond is stronger than ink on paper, stronger than legalities. Our bond is formed by love and blood.

This is the real ceremony here.

I glance around to my three Kings—Magnar, Jace and X—as they lie around me in our extra-large bed. And I’ve never felt so loved.

  My three partners in life.

  Loves of my life.

  Kings of my heart.

  Dear Readers

Thank you for reading My Irish Kings. I’ve had so much fun writing reserve harems. It’s so empowering to write about a woman getting all of her needs met by all the men who love her without drama (well, mostly) and jealousy. It’s the ultimate expression of feminism, in my opinion #girlpower

One of my fave characters in this novel is Charli King, Magnar’s daughter. I’m thinking of giving her her own novel… what do YOU think?

Meet Roman Tyrell from the other Mafia family…

  Cold. Ruthless. Killer.

That’s my birthright. The only thing meant for me.

  Until her.

Because when she gazed up at me, her honeyed hair spread across the pillow, her soft body naked and open, she made me feel like I could be different.

She gave me a reason to be different.

Imagine my shock when I’m dragged into an interrogation room, their prime suspect, and she walks in…

  Detective Julianna Capulet.

  I am so fucked.

Because I still want her. I want her like an addict craves his drug. I need her like a sinner needs his absolution.

  And I will have her.

Even if it kills us both.

Some Fun My Irish Kings Facts:

You might know that I’m an Australian living in Ireland. In chapter one, the number 16 bus is the first bus I took after I arrived in this gorgeous city! It goes from the airport to the city centre.

Maria Angie Mendoza won the Name a Character contest on my Facebook page so Waylyn’s mother is named after her. It’s a total coincidence that Giovanni Tyrell’s deceased wife’s name is also Maria, named after my mother! Did anyone notice that?

Bray is a beautiful coastal town south of Dublin that a wonderful Irishman took me to. It has a beautiful walk along the coast and a hike up a hill that gives you a gorgeous view of the coastline. Let me know if you ever visit!

There really is a north-side versus south-side divide in Dublin but it’s all a bit of fun among the locals. At least, now it is. (Southside4eva)

I can’t wait to show you more of this beautiful country and its sexy men ;)

  Stay sexy,
