Wasted Love
Page 17
Don’t worry, you’ll be out soon enough and buried balls deep inside that knock-out.
I talk to my dick. So what–doesn’t every guy?
The patio is now full of people dancing as I try to squeeze through. I’m almost free of the massive amount of bodies before I feel a cool hand reach out and squeeze mine, with long nails driving into the palm of my hand.
I spin around and see a blonde with her hair cut to her shoulders and the tips dyed hot pink. “Dixon! There you are. I heard you were here, but I couldn’t find you.”
I’m trying really hard to remember her name, but drawing a blank. From the look of familiarity on her face, I’m guessing we must have fucked before?
“Oh. I’ve been here all night. I’ve been hanging out with my cousin over at his truck most of the time.” I’m stuck standing here, and all I can think about as every second passes is its one more second that Brooklyn is sitting over at Knox’s truck without me. I know my friends, and they see fresh meat when they look at Brooklyn.
Blondie here steps closer to me, not caring that I am looking disinterested as I glance around everywhere but down at her. “Are you here with anyone? Because I was really hoping you’d want to come back to my place tonight.”
Shaking my head in protest, I try to back away and break free of her death grip on my hand. I stare straight into her eyes, hoping she’ll see I’m not playing hard to get; I’m being serious when I tell her no.
“Actually, I am here with someone, and we’re just about to tear out.”
Her face drops, and her bottom lip pops out in a small pout. “I can’t do anything to convince you to change your mind?” she asks, batting her lashes up at me.
“Sorry, but no. I’m not interested…”
“Veronica…my name is Veronica. Oh my God! You seriously don’t remember me? We hooked up a few months back, and you told me I was the best lay you’d ever had…” Her voice tapers off as she searches my face with a look of hope in her eyes. She waits to see if all of a sudden I’ll magically remember her.
I shrug my shoulders and let out a sigh. “Nope. Sorry. Doesn’t ring a bell. I am pretty sure I tell every girl that. You know us guys, we’ll say anything to get you into our bed. But baby, I’m sorry, you seem like a sweet girl. I just don’t have any desire to reenact the past. But don’t fret. I’m sure there’s more than enough guys here who’d love to go home with you…that guy just ain’t me…”
Before I can finish, she’s jumping at me to attack my mouth with her big, glossy lips.
Why the fuck is it so hard for a girl to accept the word no?!
Keeping my lips pressed firmly together, I grip her arms and push her off me. She stumbles back, gazing up at me with a deer-in-the-headlights look in her eyes.
“I applaud you for being an overachiever, but Veronica, I’m really not interested. Now if you’ll excuse me, the girl I am leaving with tonight is waiting for me.”
I leave her there fuming, with her arms crossed over her chest. I quickly wipe my lips with the back of my hand to remove the sticky shit she was wearing on her lips; I swear, it felt like she had a melted lollipop smeared across her mouth.
After a few steps, I spot Brooklyn standing by the truck with her eyes focused on me. I’m pretty sure she just witnessed whatever the fuck that just was.
She says something to Savannah before making her way towards me to meet me halfway.
“I can explain…” I stammer all of a sudden feeling the need to explain myself.
Brooklyn smiles a sexy little grin up at me as she takes my hand in hers. I can’t help but love the way her warm, soft hand feels in mine.
Did I really just think that?
“I couldn’t care less what the hell that was, Dixon. I told you before; I don’t get jealous. You left her standing there and came back for me. That’s all I care about.”
Wow. Who the hell is the girl, and where has she been all my life?
Within seconds, we’re standing at the passenger side door of my truck, which is hidden away by the other jacked up truck beside mine. Before I can get a word out, Brooklyn is pushing me against my truck and wrapping her arms around my neck. She pulls my mouth down to hers.
The instant our lips connect, it feels like a sucker punch to my gut. Her lips are soft and press eagerly against mine to take everything I have to give her, and then some. She forces her tongue against my lips, immediately causing my mouth to react and open up to her.
As our tongues tangle together, I can taste the whiskey on her tongue. I loved my whiskey before, but the taste of it on her sinfully sweet mouth makes me love it even more. I crave to taste every last drop of her.
I grip her ass with one hand and slide my fingers into her hair with the other. Our tongues thrash wildly against each other. She lets out a soft moan into my mouth, and within seconds my dick is so hard, I think it’s going to tear through my fucking pants. I grip her ass harder to press her against me, letting her feel what her kiss is doing to my body.
Pulling away from me, she seductively drags her top row of teeth slowly over her bottom lip and twirls her fingers in my hair, which is peeking out of the bottom of my ball cap.
Catching my breath, I search her face before asking, “What was that?”
“That was a kiss.”
“I know what a fuckin’ kiss is,” I chuckle, causing my abdomen to rise and fall and vibrate against her perfect body, which is pressed nicely against mine. “I want to know why you kissed me…like that? Damn…if I wasn’t drunk before, baby, I sure am now. That was the most intoxicating kiss I’ve ever had.”
What the hell am I doing? Why am I telling her this shit?
It’s as if I can’t control the words that are leaving my goddamn mouth right now.
Leaning up onto her tiptoes, she presses a kiss against my lips, the same lips that are now stretched into a permanent smile I don’t think will ever leave my face. I don’t even recognize this guy she is with right now.
This isn’t me. Not for one second have I ever felt or behaved this way with a girl. Sure I’ll sweet talk her as much as I have to, but I usually don’t put much effort into it. Normally, I sit back and let them pursue me. Then I fuck ‘em and leave ‘em. I never let them know they are getting to me; I just sit back and watch them do everything in their power to please me.
Sure, I’ll give them an ego boost before breaking their hearts and showing them the door. I tell them I’ve never had better, but never once have I meant the words I was speaking. With Brooklyn, everything I’m feeling and saying is one hundred percent the God’s honest truth.
For first time in my life, I’m finding myself getting lost in the thoughts of all the things I want to do to her over and over again, before the sun has a chance to come up and bring us back to reality. We only have a few hours, and I plan on making the most of them.
Murmuring against my lips, she whispers, “That kiss was me removing that skank’s lips from yours and replacing them with mine.”
Hello, massive hard-on.
I thought I was hard before, but fuck...I could be a Master of Masonry with the erection I’m sporting at the moment. I swear, it’s as hard as a fucking brick right now! Hearing her sweet little mouth tell me she was being possessive and wanted only her lips on mine has magnified my need to be inside of her by a million.
Brooklyn
Well, isn’t this a complete one-eighty? Dixon goes from avoiding every advance I’ve made towards him over the last several weeks to wanting to take me home tonight. It’s as if I’m around a completely different person. This Dixon is funnier and not walking around with a chip on his shoulder. He has actually been flirting back and being all possessive every time any guy has tried to approach me all night.
I told Savannah I’d wear him down. The challenge was accepted. Now I’ll be ending the night with a successful win. He thinks he’s the player, but what Dixon is blind to is that women can be players, too. Sometimes we’re even better at the game th
an they are.
Dixon’s making his way around the truck as I climb into the passenger seat of his hot ass Silverado. He is smoking hot…but this truck just makes his hotness factor skyrocket. I love big trucks, and I just pray to all that’s holy he’s not overcompensating for a tiny penis. If all my stars align, he’ll be just as blessed as his cousin, Kayden, in the penis department.
From what I could feel through his jeans, I doubt I’ll be disappointed.
I hear the driver’s side door open as Dixon climbs up inside. He has a big Cheshire cat grin spread across his face as he quickly buckles up and slides the keys into the ignition.
“You ready to get out of here?” he asks, starting the truck and making it rumble to life.
I reach across the middle console, snatch his hat off his head, and place it on mine. “I’m ready if you are.” I then sit back and slip my feet out of my boots to fold my legs up under my butt and rest them against the door. Dixon turns on the heat and cranks up the radio.
My head is slightly hazy from all the alcohol I drank, and I feel like I’m permanently stuck in a state of elation with a big, goofy smirk on my face.
The Only Way I Know, by Jason Aldean featuring Luke Bryan and Eric Church, is on the radio. Dixon turns it up a little louder as he puts the truck into drive and pulls away from the party.
“I love this song,” I tell him as I begin to sing along with the radio.
“Me, too. Three amazing artists are collaborating together. Can’t get much better than that,” he says as he glances at me with smiling eyes and looks me over as I sit in his truck wearing his ball cap.
“You’re not getting this back. Just to let you know,” I tell him matter-of-factly while adjusting the hat on my head again.
He lets out a low, husky chuckle that makes my chest flutter and my sex clench with excitement. This man has my body all over the damn place.
“Is that so? What if I told you that was my lucky hat?”
I scoff at him and roll my eyes to add a little extra dramatic flair before shifting my body in the seat, so I’m facing him more. “Seriously? You can’t blame getting laid on a hat.”
“Wow. Look who has a dirty mind. I was talking about hunting and fishing, not getting laid for your information.”
Well…I guess not only am I drunk, but I also have a dirtier mind than Dixon Beaumont. Who would’ve guessed?
“Hey, with you it’s easy to assume it had to do with sex. Because, let’s be honest here: you’re kind of a man-whore.”
“Well, if we want to point fingers here, I could easily point mine right back at you. If I remember correctly, you’re single but not growing any cobwebs in that pussy of yours?” He is so arrogant. I would love to smack that smug look off his face before ripping his clothes off.
God, he looks so good right now.
“Touché!” I laugh, pointing back at him and bumping my index finger with his.
“Whatever. You can keep the damn hat. I have twenty more at my suite. Just if I go fishin’ and don’t catch a damn thing, I’m blamin’ you.”
“Yay! I love this hat. It’s so cute,” I tell him as I check my reflection in the visor mirror.
“I’ve never had one of my hats called ‘cute’ before, but whatever. I guess it’s cute on you.”
I let out a loud gasp and dramatically smack my hand over my mouth while my eyes grow larger, and I stare across the truck at Dixon. He looks over at me with a look of bewilderment on his face as he takes in the image of me stunned before him. I burst out laughing, failing miserably to hold his gaze with a straight face.
“Did you just compliment me? Oh my God. Hell has frozen over!”
He shakes his head and runs his fingers through his hair, which is flattened against his head from wearing the hat all night. “You have the energy of a five-year-old, you know that right?” Dixon tells me, glancing at me before turning his attention back to the long stretch of dirt road.
“Hey, I’m a night owl. The later it gets, the crazier I become.”
My voice takes on a hint of sultriness as I lean forward and rest on the console to watch Dixon. His jaw is ticking again, and I notice his grip on the steering wheel tighten.
Oh yeah. I got him right where I want him.
“So are you up for anything tonight? I wanna see just how crazy you can be this time of night.”
I rest my hand on his forearm, then tilt my head towards the dashboard so he can easily see me and the road. “I’m up for anything.”
Chapter Eighteen
I lie back in the seat and watch out the front windshield as we drive past overgrown fields. It's a clear night, without a cloud in the sky. The stars sparkle, covering every single inch of the dark, inky blackness above us.
I turn my head towards Dixon and ask, “Are you sure you’re okay to drive?” We’ve both been drinking throughout the night, and the last thing I want is for us to get in trouble for driving around while intoxicated. I know I’m pretty drunk, but I don’t know about Dixon.
He glances at me as he begins to slow down. “Yah, I knew I’d be driving home, so I’ve stuck to beer all night. I’ve only had four cups, so no worries, darlin’.”
“Okay, well are you going to tell me where you’re taking me? The suspense is killing me…especially after our heated encounter against your truck not too long ago,” I say, glancing at him before looking back straight ahead at the pitch darkness. The only lights are from the headlights and the stars
Without answering, he turns right onto another dusty road. I haven’t seen a house in the last fifteen minutes we’ve been driving; all the homes around here are so spaced out.
Dixon reaches across the seat, grabs my hand, and gives it a gentle squeeze that causes my heart to do somersaults in my chest. What is it about this guy that has me acting like a schoolgirl on her first date with her high school crush? I’ve never been like this ever. Sure I’d get butterflies from time to time with certain guys, but nothing to the extent that I feel as if my body is spiraling out of control.
“We’ll be there in a few minutes,” he says, giving me a sideways glance. He’s rubbing circles on the back of my hand with his thumb, and each caress sends an aftershock through every inch of my body, stopping at my core, which aches more with every passing second.
The windows of his truck are rolled up, with the heat trickling out at the perfect temperature and wafting the alluring smell of Dixon throughout the interior of the cabin. Not just the air, but the seats we’re sitting on as well. I admit, I’ve sniffed my headrest a time or two, taking in the citrus, rosewood, and musk…it’s all-consuming, driving my senses wild.
With every passing second, my body is humming with nervous excitement. I’m trying to just focus on the music playing throughout the truck, and not on the fact that I’m finally going to have sex with Dixon. He’s made me work my ass off all month, but I ain’t complaining because it’s been fun. Normally, every guy just falls at my feet, not really giving me much of a challenge. Dixon has definitely been a challenge!
I turned my phone off the second I climbed in the truck. There is no way I’m letting anything or anyone interrupt us tonight. I leave for Los Angeles tomorrow, so this is my last chance before all my hard work goes to waste.
“We’re here,” Dixon says as he slows the truck down and begins driving on a narrow path leading us into a field. What the hell are we doing?
“Okay,” I say in a curious tone as I unhook my seat belt. As soon as he turns the truck engine off, my nerves skyrocket. I never get nervous. I would have thought the alcohol I’ve consumed tonight would make me even braver, but nothing is helping at the moment.
“I’m going to grab some blankets from the back seat if you wanna jump down and meet back at the tailgate.” Not waiting for me to answer, Dixon jumps down from the driver’s seat and immediately opens the back driver’s side door, then lifts the bench seat and pulls out folded blankets.
Well, isn’t he just Mr. Prepared.
“What do you have planned, Beaumont?” I ask curiously as I slip my boots back on and finally exit the truck.
“You’ll see soon enough,” is all he gives me before he gets back to work digging around his backseat.
The cool, damp grass crunches under my feet as I walk to the back of the truck and wait for Dixon. There’s a cool, gentle breeze, and the air is cooler tonight than it has been due to the sky being so clear. It has to be in the low fifties. I tuck my hands into my hoodie pocket and get distracted listening to the crickets and frogs singing their nighttime melody.
I’m jolted back to reality when I hear music from the truck grow louder. Spinning on my boot heels, I rest my hands on the tailgate. I watch as Dixon rolls down the back window facing the bed of the truck to allow the music from inside the truck to be heard out here.
A few seconds later, Dixon appears with a stack of folded quilts in his hand. “Can you be a peach and open the tailgate for me, darlin’?”
Laughing, I grab the handle. Not realizing the weight of the tailgate, I allow it to fall open, practically knocking myself on my ass.
“Holy shit!” I curse as I catch my balance.
“You’re not used to being with a real man, are ya?” he asks in an amused tone.
Rolling my eyes–which I doubt he can see in the dark–I turn my back towards the bed of the truck to grip the tailgate and shimmy up onto it before taking a blanket from the stack he’s holding.
“Don’t flatter yourself, Dixon. You’re not the first smooth talker to whisk me away with them. I’ve had plenty of guys who would fall under the category of a real man, but none of them had me opening tailgates. But because of you, I will now be prepared in case a time ever arises where my assistance is needed with a big, manly truck like yours.”
“You’re feisty when you’re drunk.” Dixon jumps up into the truck bed beside me, and we get to work laying the quilts out.
“And you’re a smart ass, drunk or sober,” I retort.
“I can’t argue with that.” His voice is huskier from being out in the cold, making my body suddenly ache once again to be near him.
