Olivay led Alucia to a protective compartment to the left of the area where the shuttle would land so they could watch it come in. An alarm sounded signaling the arrival of the shuttle. The shuttle was not enormous, maybe twenty meters long and not quite ten meters wide. The bottom was a dark black. The rest of it was white with large windows along the sides. The nose tapered to a point but there was no clear cockpit and small wings and a tail that looked almost vestigial. The shuttle came to an abrupt halt immediately above the station and remained temporarily suspended in an electromagnetic field. It was then gently lowered to the ground. There was no landing gear, just a ramp that came down soon after the landing.

Olivay saw Genovesse come down the ramp soon after it came to a stop. As soon as they were given the “all clear,” he and Alucia headed out to greet her. Those green eyes. The only other person he’d ever seen with those eyes was already holding his hand. Alucia shot in front of him to land in Genovesse’s arms for a long hug. It took a moment for Genovesse to loosen Alucia’s arms up enough to include Olivay in their embrace.

“How are you, my love? Have you been having fun with our beautiful daughter?”

“Great fun. She has been wonderful. Of course, we have been lonely without you. How was your trip?”

“A great success. We have launched the probe successfully. In about six months, it will arrive. Then the real work will begin.”

Olivay smiled. “Yes, we are going to open a door to a completely different galaxy.”

“Yes, dear, I’m sure you and your team will be able to do it.”

  “Of course we will.”

“What are you smiling about now, Olivay?”

“I just can’t wait to see what this next step brings our civilization.”

Olivay gathered both Alucia and Genovesse in his arms. The power of three. Together, there is nothing we can’t accomplish.
