“That’s incredible,” Casey said with a broad smile. “But more importantly, is there a pool? Sash and I are going to need a place to come tan in the summertime!” She winked at Sasha.
“Not yet,” Max said. “But I’m having old Dom get one put in. They’re coming tomorrow to dig the hole.”
“It’s going to be the best summer ever,” Sasha said with a big, toothy grin.
“Well, if we don’t get attacked by Niburians,” Ian said, rolling his eyes. “Or Archons, whatever the heck those things were. Or Serps or wolves or who knows what else.”
“And you still don’t have your memories unlocked,” Casey said softly to Max. “Even after all this.”
Max nodded. That was true.
“Well, mate,” Ian said. “We can go online and look for you in old photos. Maybe that’ll shed some light on it.”
Max nodded. “Yeah. But to be honest, right now I don’t care about any of that. My memories have stayed hidden this long, they can stay that way for a bit longer. I’d rather think about what we’re going to do this summer.”
“What are we going to do?” Casey asked.
Max smiled. He had friends now. He was no longer alone.
“Whatever we want. It is going to be the best summer ever.”
