After their outing, all she wanted to do was climb back on his Harley and hold him tight, melding her body with his as he rode into the great expanse.

She eagerly settled behind him outside the flower shop and placed her arms around his waist. When the bike jumped to life, a single shiver of excitement bolted through her, and they took off.

The ride to the Iron Horse Saloon was a short twenty-minute one, but he’d promised a longer ride after they had something to eat. Inside the roadhouse, several older bikers lining the bar checked her out as she followed Goldie to a table on the back patio. They were the only ones on the patio, and Goldie moved the umbrella to shield the sun from their faces. The lush foliage, the random smattering of wildflowers, and the full pine and evergreen trees surrounded them. In the distance, a rush of water echoed.

“It’s pretty and so calming up here,” she said, watching a few iridescent dragonflies skipping over the bushes.

“I love it up here. It’s close to town, but it feels like we’re in another place.” Goldie dragged her chair closer to him. “Now, give me your lips.”

Tingles skated over her skin as she leaned forward and kissed him deeply as she grabbed his hair and pulled it. Moaning softly, her tongue danced with his, her nipples hardening when he brushed his thumb across them over and over. With each swipe over her aching buds, her arousal surged through her senses, landing at the opening between her legs. She slipped his bottom lip between her teeth and sucked it, then bit down as her passion escalated.

“Fuck, Hailey.” With his hand tangled in her hair, he yanked her head back and kissed her hard. “You’re irresistible,” he rasped. Parting her lips, their tongues entwined as he placed his hand over her breast, his finger stroking the very tip of her nipple.

She squirmed and moaned under his touch, his lingering kiss dampening her panties and making her clench her legs together. The firmer and wetter he kissed her, the more it drove her wild with desire. She craved to ride him while his thick cock was deep inside her.

“Do you know how fuckin’ sexy you are?” he said against her lips.

“You’re driving me crazy,” she breathed.

“I like that.” His low chuckle rumbled in her ears, and then his lips were back to doing wickedly delicious things to hers. “I can’t stop kissing you,” he whispered.

Someone clearing his throat made Hailey pull away. A tall, bearded man in a black shirt and jeans held a notepad and a pen. “How’s it going, dude?” he said to Goldie.

  “Good, bro.”

“I’m guessin’ you’re not gonna start any fights, right?”

Goldie laughed. “Nah. I’m in a good mood.” He squeezed Hailey flush to him.

“I can see that. You guys want something to drink and eat?”

“A Coors for me.” He looked at Hailey. “What do you want?”

“A peach margarita,” she said, to which Goldie and the waiter busted out laughing. “Is it an inside joke?” she asked.

Goldie smoothed her hair back. “This is a biker bar. Margaritas aren’t on the list. Beer and hard liquor are what’s available.”

“Okay. I guess I’ll have a White Russian.” Goldie and the waiter shook their heads. “You don’t have that either,” she said out loud. “Bring me a Coke with a couple of slices of lemon.”

“That we have,” the man said.

“Do you want some nachos?” Goldie asked her.

“Sure. I prefer them without any meat. Are you cool with that?”

“Yeah. Bring me an order of wings with the habanero sauce. You gonna go on the charity poker run?”

“Yeah, put me and Bruiser down. I’ll let you know if Lizard’s gonna go. Does the lady want anything besides the nachos?”

“No. The nachos are enough for me. Thanks.”

When he walked away, Hailey asked, “What’s a poker run?”

Goldie explained it and told her about the upcoming rally. He told her what his duties were as the road captain of the club. She loved hearing about his lifestyle and his world; it was different from anything she’d ever known.

When the man came back with their drinks, he gave her a once-over and winked at her, then headed back into the restaurant.

“I can’t believe he did that in front of you,” she said as she squeezed lemon into her Coke.

  “Rusty’s a horny bastard. Don’t take offense. He thinks you’re a hang-around or a one-nighter. I’ll set him straight.”

  “Why would he think that?”

“’Cause he knows me. I don’t have women around for long.”

“We’ve been hanging out for a few weeks. Am I your record?”

He laughed. “Yeah, you are.” He picked up one of his wings and took a bite. “Fuck, these are good.”

  “What’s a hang-around?”

“Women who come to the clubhouse to party with the brothers. They’re there for a good time. Believe it or not, women go crazy for the chance to party with a biker. They all want to be on the back of a Harley. It’s crazy.”

“A lot of women like the idea of a bad boy, and I’d say a guy in a rough motorcycle club would turn a lot of women on.”

  “Does it turn you on?”

She shook her head. “You turn me on, not your lifestyle or your motorcycle.”

Putting his beer down, he leaned over and kissed her hard on the lips. “You’re fuckin’ incredible.”

Licking her lips, she picked up her Coke and took a long drink. “How can you eat that habanero sauce?”

“I like hot and spicy things.” He winked at her and picked up another wing.

She snickered, then popped another chip in her mouth. I’m having the best time with him. It’s just so easy and natural between us. I’m really falling for him.

“What’re you thinking about?” he asked.

“About your clubhouse. I heard you guys have some wild parties. I want to go to one of them.”

  “They’re not for you.”

“I’ll be the judge of that. I want to go.”

Pushing back in his chair, he stared at her. “The parties can get out of hand. Fights break out, people are real open, and the whole atmosphere can be crazy. Sometimes we have other guys from other clubs come by, or wannabes who’re trying to get in good with the club will come with patched members. It isn’t like a regular party.”

“I’m just curious. I’ll be with you, so nothing’s going to happen. Please?” She tipped her head down and looked up at him. She knew the look drove him crazy, and she could get her way when she used it.

Running his hands through his hair, he blew out a long breath. “Damn, woman. I should say no, but for some fucked-up reason I’ll go ahead and take you to the party this Saturday. But I don’t want to hear any complaints or judgments from you. Got it?”

She nodded and gave him a peck on the mouth. “Thank you. What should I wear?”

“Nothing revealing. Jeans and a T-shirt are good.”

“Since we’ve been together I haven’t been able to wear anything revealing,” she said.

He chuckled. “Another bonus to sucking your soft skin.”

After they finished eating, Goldie took them to Arrow Lake, which was a good hour from town. The day had grown hotter, and there weren’t any people at the lake.

“I haven’t been here in years. Ryan used to take me to Overland Lake to swim since it’s closer to town, but I’ve only been to Arrow Lake once. I don’t remember it being this pretty.” Rays of light from the afternoon sun danced across the water. The shore was a mixture of earth, rocks, and grass, and the circle of trees surrounding cast its reflection on the shimmering cyan blue water.

Goldie took out a blanket from his saddlebags. “I prefer to come here. Overland Lake is too crowded, especially in the summer. It’s quiet here, and sometimes it’s good to get away from the noise of life.”

“Is that why you like to ride your Harley?”

“You bet. I love the way it makes me feel. Riding solo gives
me freedom and solitude. There’s nothing like it.”

  “I can understand that.”

He grasped her hand and led her to a grassy area, spreading open the blanket before kicking off his boots and tugging her down.

She laughed. “I’m sort of freaked because the first and only time I was here, my dad and I were bitten to death by mosquitoes. Someone at work told my dad Arrow Lake was a great place to fish.”

  “Fishing here sucks.”

She nodded. “We found that out the hard way.”

“I can’t see you going fishing. I’m surprised your dad took you.”

“I pleaded with him. He always gave in to that.”

“You were always such a princess,” he said.

“Still am.” She smiled when he playfully poked her in the ribs, his fingers close to the underside of her breast. She sucked in her breath, even the hint of him touching her intimately made her skin tingle.

  “Did you catch any fish?”

“Three.” They both burst out laughing. Holding her stomach, she lay on her back, her sides aching. He hovered over her and peppered her face with small, feathery kisses, then trailed down her neck to her collarbone. “Hailey.”

The vibrations of his lips on her skin sent a direct surge to her pussy. She was still on high alert from the restaurant, so it didn’t take much to heighten her arousal again. Under the clear blue sky, the lull of a slight breeze, and the melodic chorus of birds, she wanted him to fuck her hard. The fear of someone watching didn’t matter to her. Normally, she’d be squeamish about it, but Goldie brought out a nasty side of her she never knew she had.

“I can’t get enough of you,” he said as he raised her top, then yanked down her bra and devoured her tits.

“I’m so crazily turned on by you. I always crave your touch,” she said as she fumbled with his zipper.

“I want to feel you raw, baby. I’m clean. Are you on birth control?”

“Yeah. I want to really feel you too.”

Then he raised up, shrugged off his clothes, peeled hers off, and bent back down, hovering over her once again. The feel of his skin on hers fueled the burn deep inside her.

“I want you inside me. Right now,” she whispered against his chest.

Without another word, he grasped her legs, put them over his shoulders, and rubbed the head of his cock over her wet pussy. Lowering his head, he sucked on her breasts, then pulled up and slammed into her. A million sparks flew through her as he pumped in and out, her warm walls clinging to him as he stretched her more and more. Tendrils of wicked pleasure tore through her pussy as she exploded into a million pieces.

Goldie stiffened, then held her gaze as he grunted, “Hailey,” before he filled her. His cock kept twitching in her as her pussy walls clamped around him, milking his dick dry. She kissed his head and caressed him as he panted and collapsed on top of her, his chest heaving. I could get addicted to this. She sighed contentedly and ran her hands up and down his back.

After a long while, he rolled off her and tucked her in the crook of his arm. The gentle breeze cooled their bodies, and joy coursed through her. After a few minutes, she heard him snoring, and she smiled as she clung to him and watched the ripples in the lake.

  Most perfect day ever.

  Chapter Twenty-Six

Susan O’Brien rubbed her eyes and swiveled her office chair to face the window. The street was quiet and most of the windows from the apartment complexes were dark. She glanced at the clock, surprised she’d worked past midnight. Yawning and stretching her tired limbs, she leaned back and closed her eyes. Part of her was too tired to get up and go home, and another part of her wanted to get away from her office and forget the paperwork that kept piling up on her desk daily. Grasping the arms of the chair, she pushed herself up and grabbed for the corner of the desk, steadying herself. Sitting for hours had made her joint stiffen up, and having a few drinks made standing a bit challenging.

She gathered the paperwork she knew she wouldn’t look at and placed it in her briefcase, along with the nearly empty bottle of vodka. After switching off the desk lamp and overhead fluorescent lights, she left the room.

The corridors were quiet and dim, with only a small amount of light around the baseboards illuminating the floor. The residents were asleep in their rooms, and she soundlessly walked down the hall to the door leading to the basement. An unopened bottle of vodka in her locker had been on her mind for the past two hours; it would make excellent company for her when she arrived at her empty townhouse.

When she passed Gus Halpern’s room, something moved in the dark. Fear seized her as she thought Gus was trying to get out of bed. Whipping around, she rushed to the doorway. The room was so dark, it took a few seconds for her eyes to adjust to it, but when they did, she saw a figure standing over Gus.

“I’m glad you came over, Vera,” Gus said hoarsely. The figure didn’t answer. “Ow! That hurt. Why did you do it, Vera? Where’s my mother?” Gus began to cry softly.

Susan’s heart broke when she heard the patient’s tears. Gus suffered from vascular dementia, and he obviously thought the person was someone from his past.

“Gus?” she said in a low voice as she walked into the room. Then she saw the figure pulling a needle from his arm. No injections were ordered for Gus. As a matter of fact, he wasn’t on any medication at all. The eighty-two-year-old was healthier than a lot of men half his age, which made his dementia that much more tragic. “What are you doing?” she asked as she approached the bed.

The figure stiffened and turned around. Stopping mid-stride, Susan’s mind raced as she tried to figure out what was going on. “I thought you requested tonight off. What were you injecting into Gus?” She froze as the realization of what was happening hit her full force like a tidal wave. “You? You’ve been responsible for these deaths? It can’t be.”

Without a word, the figure rushed over to her. Something hard hit her head before she could yell out, dazing her, and she stumbled while red spots danced in front of her eyes. Before she could get her bearings, she was being half dragged to the locked door that led to the basement where her vodka bottle awaited her. I could really use a drink. My head is pounding. What’s going on? Why did—

Then a rough shove had her arms flailing to grab onto the bannister, but she couldn’t. Her feet were slipping off the concrete steps, trying desperately to steady themselves. The crash of the bottle in her briefcase sounded like a bomb in the stairwell as her briefcase flew out of her hand and slammed down on the landing. In less than a second, she followed it, her head meeting the floor. The crunch of bones in her skull deafened her before everything went black. From above, she heard the steel door shut, and she knew her mangled body wouldn’t survive the fall. After all the years of poverty, adjustment to a new country, and hard work in her career, she’d end up dying on a cold floor that smelled like bleach. If her breathing weren’t so ragged, she would’ve laughed at the irony of it all.

What a bloody silly way to die.

  Chapter Twenty-Seven

“You’re going to a lot of trouble with this chick,” Paco said.

“Do I have use of the prospects or not?” Goldie replied, ignoring Paco’s comment.

“Steel and I are wondering how we can justify taking the prospects away to do personal stuff for a brother who has a hard-on for his best friend’s sister.”

“I’m just gonna tell you this one time, dude. I don’t give a shit that you’re the VP of the club. If you say that shit to me again, I’m gonna smash your goddamn face.”

“Then we’d have a bloody mess after I kick your ass.” Paco’s arms flexed when he crossed them over his chest.

“If the club doesn’t want to help me out with this, fine. I can figure it out. I was just asking because it didn’t seem to be a problem when Muerto and Diablo asked for their women. Just fuckin’ forget about it.” He pushed away from the bar.

“He’s messing with you,” Steel said as he walked over.
r />   “You sick fuck,” Goldie said.

Paco laughed and handed him a shot of tequila. “You were the one always giving Muerto and Diablo shit about their women, so I thought I’d take over your spot.”

A half smile curled Goldie’s lips as he shook his head. “So I can use Ruger and Patches if I need to? I’m gonna be doing it most of the time. I just want to make sure she’s safe until they catch this fuckin’ perv.”

“Since Wexler can’t find his ass with both hands, I’d say you’re gonna be watching your woman for a long time,” Paco replied.

“I heard a detective from Durango’s manning the case,” Army said as he came over.

“Who’re you fucking this time at the sheriff’s office?” Steel asked.

“A hot redhead. She just loves telling me everything going on after I fuck her good.” Army laughed and picked up his beer.

“What do they know about this bastard?” Goldie said.

“They think he may be the one offing the old people at your grandma’s place.”

“Fuck. I got a bad feeling about all this. I have to figure out how to protect my grandma when I’m not there.”

“Why don’t you move her out?” Chains asked as he sat on one of the barstools.

“Cherry Vale’s the nicest private place in the area. The state-run ones are shitholes, and I don’t want to send her to Durango. Besides, moving her now would totally screw her up. I just have to figure it out.” Goldie scrubbed his face.

“You know the badges are usually wrong. I can’t believe a guy raping women is also offing old people. It doesn’t make sense,” Paco said.

“If he’s trying to avoid detection and throw the badges off, it does,” Chains replied.

For a few seconds, silence descended on the group. Then Paco clasped Goldie on the shoulder. “When are you gonna tell your friend about fucking his sister?” The others guffawed.

“I don’t know,” he grumbled. After he finished his beer, he begged off a game of pool and headed to his room. Paco’s question needled him, and he knew it was something he had to do. Since he and Hailey had come together, they’d both acted as though Ryan didn’t exist, but he was always in the back of Goldie’s mind. Sometimes he’d chastise himself for being so weak or a disloyal, shitty friend, but then the memory of Hailey’s kisses and the sunlight in her hair washed the guilt away. How could he give up the way she snuggled close to him when they slept, the way her lower lip jutted out when he annoyed her, or the way her face contorted when she climaxed? He couldn’t. It was that simple, yet somehow it wasn’t.
