Hannah giggled and sighed. “And I think that we need to do something about that problem you have right now. And while we’re taking care of it….” Hannah got up on all fours and stuck her bottom up in the air. “I think you should have a good view of the results of that perfect paddling while you’re claiming your own prize.”
It was late in the afternoon when Hannah and Brandon sat at her dinner table sipping on coffee. Hannah reached over and took his hand. Both were still in their robes.
She rubbed his arm as she began to speak. “I wonder what life would be like if we made our decisions based only on what we felt, regardless of our concerns about how others may judge us.”
Brandon smiled. “I don’t think that life is long enough to worry about the judgments of others. If I recall correctly, you said that your father told you to always go after what you wanted.”
Hannah looked at him with tears in her eyes. “I feel scared right now.”
Brandon moved closer and put his arm around her. “But what are you afraid of?”
“I’m afraid of what I’m thinking I’m thinking crazy thoughts.”
Brandon ran his hand over her cheek and wiped away a tear. “Normally, I would make some wisecrack right now, but this is obviously a serious moment.
“Hannah, please, remember that you can tell me anything. You can say anything to me. I love you.”
Hannah pulled a tissue from the pocket of her robe and began to wipe her eyes. “Brandon, we’ve just known each other a few weeks. We have the most incredible sex I could ever dare hope for. Already, I can’t imagine myself with anyone but you.” She dabbed a tear from her eye. “But it’s so much more than that. It’s how I feel about the person that you are. Brandon, it - I know this seems crazy but, I think that I want this to be forever.” She laughed softly. “There. I said it.”
Brandon’s expression turned serious. He cleared his throat before he spoke. “Hannah, Sweetheart. I guess it’s time then that I put something to rest, right here and now.”
Hearing those words, Hannah’s heart sank. When Brandon stood, she thought that she had chased him away, and lost him forever by being too impulsive and premature and expressing her desire to marry him. He stepped away from the table, but he took hold of the back of her chair and turned her away from the table, leaving Hannah totally confused.
That was when he knelt down in front of her and put his hands on her waist. He pulled her down close to him and kissed her. “I know what the only thing that I’m afraid of is. That would be looking forward to life without finding you next to me every morning. After we had been together just a couple of times, I thought that I was losing my sense of reason. Those crazy thoughts you are having… I was having too.”
Hannah’s face was expressing nothing but relief as he continued. “I’d rather have you think me mad to ask you to marry me after knowing you a few weeks than to leave anything to chance. But I do want to marry you.” Brandon began to chuckle. “And I want to marry you because of the person you are, as well.
“Hannah, I’ve never met anyone like you. You are just this wonderful mixture of strength and vulnerability. You’re sensitive but determined, and, I don’t know, it’s just everything about you.”
Hannah leaned down and kissed him. “I’m a writer. I’m supposed to be eccentric. But in your position, everyone around you will know how quickly this happened. Will that be a problem for you?”
Brandon shook his head. “Oh, there will be some gossip. A snide comment here and there behind my back. But as time goes by, as more people come to know you, they will come to understand why I would not take the chance of ever letting you slip through my fingers. After all, people working at a college are supposed to be open-minded. At the bottom line, the only opinion among them that matters is that of the president. There was no question that you won him over in about ten seconds. But, what about your parents?”
Hannah nodded. “Dad will roll with the flow. Mom will think that I may be doing this out of a sense of a need for security. She has always been wired that way. Over-protective of me. But it’s the same with them, as it is with the people at the college. As they spend some time around you, they will understand. Mom will see quickly why you’re the one that I did not want to be allowed to get away.”
Hannah ran her fingers through his hair. “Plus, I will tell Mom that I just have to marry a man who can make my toes curl so well.”
A wry smile crossed his face. “The fact that you are blazing hot in bed, and on the sofa, and in the shower, is a pretty nice bonus, I must say. And you know what?”
Hannah shook her head back and forth as tears of happiness ran down her face. “No. What else?”
Brandon ran his hand across her forehead, and then down her face to wipe her tears away. “I know now that I really do enjoy spanking that exquisitely shaped bottom of yours.”
Hannah began to giggle. “In that case, maybe you should lay me down on the bed and give me an engagement spanking.”
Brandon scooped Hannah up in his arms and began to walk toward the bedroom to celebrate. She wrapped her arms around his neck, kissed him and asked, “Am I going to get a spanking every time I’m bad?”
Brandon plopped her onto the bed. “Of course you will.”
Hannah removed her robe, tossed it to the floor, and then pulled him toward her. “Then I’m giving you fair warning. This really turns me on.”
Brandon eased her onto her stomach, then began to softly caress her bottom. “Oh, Hannah, what are you telling me?”
She giggled after Brandon’s hand landed on her bottom with a loud SMACK. “You may never be safe in the shower again.”
