  Chapter 17

Asia stood completely naked before the bright light that called to her.

“Asia, your service to me has been absolute. Your mate and you have been faithful and loyal servants to La Patron and La Patroness. For these reasons, I have heard and granted Hawke and your prayers for a litter. Raise them well, for they will be important to the Nation as they will serve and guard the Nations’ next leaders.”

With that, the bright light washed over Asia and then dissipated.

“Hawke! We’re going to have a litter!”

“I know my love.” Hawke placed his hand on Asia’s stomach and held her close. “I know. Your smell has changed and that only happens once a female is expecting.”

Asia turned in Hawke’s arms so that she could look him in the eyes. “The Goddess came to me and told me that she was granting our prayer for a litter! I need to contact Mistress, and my parents to let them know. We have to let Damian, Gem and Sarita know…”

“Hold on. Hold on. We need to get this confirmed with Matt first.”

Asia threw back the covers and jumped out of bed. She grabbed Hawke’s hand and pulled. “Let’s go now! Come on, let’s go!”

Hawke laughed as he stumbled out of bed “Alright, alright! But we have to shower first and get dressed.”

“You’re right. But hurry!” Asia ran towards the bathroom to shower and get herself ready.

“Asia. Asia!” Something pulled at her.

“Wake up baby. You’re dreaming!... Asia!”

Asia sensed concern from Hawke through their link. “Breathe slowly. In and out. Open those beautiful eyes and look at me.”

She was awake. Wasn’t she? Why was Hawke telling her to wake up when all she wanted was to think about the litter growing inside of her? Asia continued to fight against the order to wake up.

“Come on baby. I need you to open your eyes for me.”

  Asia opened her eyes.

Hawke exhaled a long stream of air. “There you are.” He bent down and gently placed a kiss on her lips. “Welcome back.”

She saw a bruise on the right side of Hawke’s face and frowned as she touched the spot. “What happened to you? Who did this?”

“You did while you were dreaming.”

Frowning deeper, Asia cupped his chin. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to!”

“I know.” Hawke took Asia’s hand and kissed her fingertips. “It’s already healing.” He looked into her eyes. “That must have been some dream! Want to share?”

Asia sat up in the bed and placed her arms around her knees and told him about the Goddess and her excitement.

Hawke sat on the bed next to her slowly rubbing her back. The action calmed her. “That’s a really good dream. But when you didn’t wake up, I got really concerned.”

Asia looked met his gaze again, and saw the worry she’d put there. “Sorry. I never meant to make you anxious. I just wanted to stay in that place with you and our pups.”

“Understood. And there is nothing to be sorry for. You’re alright and that’s all that matters.”

The dream seemed so real. “Do you think I’m pregnant?”

Hawke thought about it for a moment and answered. “Could be. Ever since Matt released me to try, we have been working on it quite a lot. Only takes one of those swimmers to hit the prize.”

Asia nodded and placed her head on her knees. Sorrow rolled off her in waves. She wanted this so much. No. They wanted this so much. He couldn’t wait to see her grow big with his pups. Hopefully, her dream mirrored reality and the Goddess granted their wish.

“Hey baby, why don’t we go see Matt and have him check you out? It’s highly possible that your dream was prophetic,” he said.

Asia looked up at him. “You think it’s possible?”

“If the Goddess said it’s going to happen, then it’s going to happen.” Hawke placed his hands on either side of Asia’s face and said “Let’s go and find out.” He brushed his lips across hers before getting up and pulling her from the bed.

Hawke contacted Matt while they showered and dressed. Shortly afterward they headed towards Matt’s office in the lower level of the Compound. Arriving at his door, they knocked.

“Come in,” Matt said. “Hey you two. How are you today?” he said as Hawke and Asia sat down.

Hawke took Asia’s hand and answered for them both. “We’re doing well. How are you, Davian and Tomas?”

“We’re good. What can I do for you today? Are you having any issues after the surgery? You should be fully healed by now and there shouldn’t be any residual pain.”

“This appointment isn’t for me but for Asia.”

Matt immediately became concerned. “Asia? What’s wrong?”

Asia smiled and replied “Hopefully nothing. We’d like a pregnancy test.”

A smile broke out on Matt’s face. “Of course! It would be my pleasure.”

Matt called for the nurse to bring in the test kit. Once it arrived, he took a blood sample and told Hawke and Asia to wait in his office while he rushed the results through. Hawke scooped Asia up in his arms and sat her on his lap while they waited.

  “Hawke, if I’m not pregnant…”

Hawke kissed her on her forehead. “If you’re not pregnant now, we will continue to try. Trying is one of my favorite activities, so I’m all in.”

Asia laughed and looked into his eyes. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” And Hawke kissed her.

Matt re-entered the office as they were kissing. He cleared his throat. “Enough of that you two. That’s part of what got you in this condition in the first place.”

At first neither Hawke or Asia understood what Matt had said. Once the words registered, they looked at each other and smiled. “This condition?”

Matt returned their smile. “Yes. You know. Pregnant. Having pups.”

Asia warmed from the inside out. “Really?”

Matt nodded and said “Really. In about six and one-half months, Damian and Sarita will have younger siblings to love.”

Hawke stood with Asia in his arms and headed for the door.

“Where are you going? We need to talk about your pre-natal care!” Matt said, although he didn’t sound too concerned.

Hawke turned once they reached the door. “Tomorrow is soon enough. Today we celebrate.”

“Understood. Congratulations you two. Asia, come by in the morning so we can discuss your pre-natal care and what dietary changes you need to make to keep you and your pups healthy.”

“I’ll be here Matt. Thank you!”

“We’ll be here Matt. Thank you!”

Hawke closed the door with his foot and walked quickly to the elevator. He kissed Asia while they waited for the elevator, again while they rode the elevator, then when they got off of the elevator, once more at the door to their suite, and again inside their suite, a final time once they closed their bedroom door. Once inside their bedroom, Hawke gently laid Asia on the bed and followed her down onto the mattress. He placed his arms around her head to hold his weight off her while his lower body was cradled between her legs. Looking at her water filled his eyes, Hawke spoke to her through their link.

“You are the most beautiful female I have ever seen. You are the most wonderful mate that I could have ever asked for and I am truly blessed. Thank you for making this wonderful gift come true.”

She placed her hand on his face. “It took both of us to make this dream come true. And of course, the Goddess helped a little.”

Hawke laughed, looked up. “Thank you, Goddess!” He kissed her.

Asia ended the kiss on a gasp. “Oh! I need to contact Mistress, and my parents to let them know. We have to also let Damian, Gem and Sarita know.”

“Tomorrow will be soon enough. Today and tonight is for us.” Hawke said. He returned to kissing Asia to kick off their daylong celebration.

  Chapter 18

Jasmine sat beneath Silas’ arm as they rode in the hors
e drawn carriage around the meadow of the Compound. White, unmarked snow filled the landscape, courtesy of a recent snowstorm. The horses clopped along ignoring the cold and whimsy of the two occupants.

She pulled the thick, wool blanket closer around their waists and cuddled into Silas’ warmth. Closer to their wing, their pups, grandsons and her sisters and brother played in the snow under the watchful eyes of Victoria, Rose, Danielle and Shyla. Snowball fights erupted with the adults involved and laughter carried to their carriage.

“Sorry it took so long to give this to you,” Silas said holding the reins with one hand and his other arm around her.

“It’s so beautiful, peaceful. This is special,” she said looking at the snow laden limbs and small animal prints through the trees.

“Times like these I feel I’ve failed to care for you properly.”

His words jarred her. “What do you mean?”

“This. You ask for so little and give so much of yourself. When you first asked for this ride, I agreed but allowed things to get in the way.” He shook his head. “I’m still learning how to be a good mate to you. Once again I promise to do better.” He stopped the carriage and looked down at her. “I want to be your dream-maker.”

Her brow rose. “Dream-maker? What’s that?”

“The person who makes your dreams come true. You want to travel. I’ve got two trips planned for this year.”

Shock raced through her, leaving her momentarily speechless. “Two?” she squeaked.

“Paris first. Renee said you’ve always wanted to go there.”

“You… you talked to my sister about this?” She couldn’t have been more surprised.

“Athens second. I hear that’s also a place you’ve wanted to go.” He took her chin and leaned close to her. “The only condition is you take me with you. Just the two of us.”

Paris, France? Athens, Greece? Was he serious? She couldn’t think. “It’s not my birthday or our anniversary.”

“It’s a just because I love and appreciate you day,” he whispered against her lips.

“I love you too,” she said as her mind whirled to take in what he said. For years she’d asked and so far they took a few family trips with the kids. But this, time alone with him, seeing parts of the world she’d only read about in books. The smile started small and grew so large it hurt. “Yes I’ll meet your condition,” she said. Pressing kisses all over his face, she thanked him for loving her.

Pleasure radiated through her. “This is a huge surprise. Renee never mentioned it.”

“You’ve been so busy with the Alpha wives, our pups, and growing family, I thought it was time to make sure you did the “me time” thing.”

“Vanessa and Ethan should be here in the morning for the baby shower at Lilly’s tomorrow afternoon. Rose, Shyla and Dani handled most of the details but it should be fun.”

  “Is Asia included?”

Jasmine nodded. “Yes, Amynta and Barticus arrived last night. Last count the shower is for six pregnant women. Asia and Amynta will have another small one at Barticus’ home for his pack.”

Silas nodded and shook the reins. The horses moved slow. “Will Damian and Gem make it?”

“No, Damian’s on a case and can’t leave. Gem’s at home with the babies and doesn’t want to leave Damian behind.”

“The new year seems off to a fruitful start,” Silas said.

Thinking of all the pregnancies, Jasmine agreed. “Personally, I like your New Year’s idea the best, Mr. Dream-maker. I’ll do everything in my power to fuel you with enough of my dreams to keep you busy all year.” She pressed a kiss on his chest.

“That’s what this Dream-maker is all about, keeping you happy by fulfilling your dreams.”
