Hunter: A Reed Security Romance Page 14

I shifted on top of her, cradling her body in mine. She had on a t-shirt and panties and I could feel her heat pressed against me. “Say you’ll really give me another chance,” I said, pressing a kiss to her stomach. “Say that this is really happening.” I bit the bottom of her shirt and dragged it up with my teeth until her entire stomach was exposed. “I’ll give you all of me. Anything you want is yours if you say that you’re mine.”

“Hunter,” she whispered. “I want to, but I’m scared.”

“I know. I know that you worry I’m going to run away.” I pressed another wet kiss to her stomach and then looked back in her eyes, needing her to see how serious I was. “I promise that I’m ready for this. The only thing that scares me anymore is the thought of you walking out that door and never coming back. I’d be fucking lost without you. I’m not saying I’ll never fuck up, but I promise that you’re mine forever.”

  “I love you, too.”

I ran my tongue along the top of her panties, watching as her eyes drifted closed. Her legs squirmed beneath me, trying to open for me. I took the lace into my mouth and pulled it down her thighs, over her delicate knees, and down to her ankles. When I pulled them off, I tossed them off the bed and pressed a kiss to the instep of her foot. I swirled my tongue along her ankle, circling the bone and then licking and kissing up her leg to her knee. I kissed every inch of her beautiful legs until she squirmed with need.

Her lips glistened before me as I sucked her into my mouth, tasting her salty flavor. I knew I would never find anything as great as this. Lucy was everything to me and now she would be mine for the rest of my life. I would make sure of it.

She wrapped her legs around my neck as I sucked her harder and harder, flicking my tongue against her clit as she squeezed me so hard I thought I would lose oxygen. When she came, I swore I blacked out momentarily from the pressure around my neck. When her legs finally loosened, I came up gasping for air. She was panting heavily and I started to worry that it had been too much. She was only a few days out of the hospital. I didn’t want her to end up back there.

I started to move away, but she wrapped her legs around me again. “Where are you going?”

“I think that’s enough for now. I don’t want you to overdo it.”

“I’ll let you know if we get to that point.”

“Lucy, I’m serious. That’s all for today. We’re not doing anything else.”

  “Says you.”

She sat up and wrapped her hand around my cock, squeezing slightly. I groaned and shut my eyes tight. “Lucy,” I said with a strangled cry. She spit in her hand and then rubbed my cock up and down from root to tip. Shit, this was the best hand job of my life. She started working me harder and harder. I should stop her. I should tell her that she needed to rest, but I had never felt anything so sweet. Well, besides her pussy.

“Hunter,” she whispered. I looked into her eyes and saw lust shining bright. “When my nose is better, I’m going to suck you into my mouth and then let you fuck my mouth.” I groaned as she flicked her tongue against my ear. “You’re going to come in my mouth and I’m going to swallow every drop of your cum.”

“Oh shit, Lucy.” I could feel my balls pulling up and my whole body tensed.

“And then I’m going to lick your cock until it’s clean,” she whispered and then sucked my ear lobe into her mouth. I exploded in her hand, jerking so hard that I almost knocked her off the bed. I wrapped my arm around her to steady her and then pulled her in close. Her hand was still wrapped around my still hard cock. I couldn’t help it. With her, it was like it was impossible to calm my body down.

“Fuck, Lucy. You’re a she-Devil, you know that?”

“Well, I have to be creative for the next couple of weeks until I can make that a reality. Next time, I’ll tell you what I want you to do to my ass.”

And just like that, I was ready for another round.

  CHAPTER TEN

  Lucy

AFTER SPENDING THE week with Hunter, I was pretty sure that there was nothing he could do to ever push me away again. I had fully given my heart to him and there was no going back now. He asked me if I wanted to stay with him longer, but I wasn’t ready for that yet. I think we both needed some space to make sure that we didn’t rush things too much. As much as he told me that he wasn’t scared anymore, I didn’t want to jinx that.

I walked into the school Monday morning feeling like a new woman, despite the fact that my face was still swollen and bruised. It didn’t bother me though. I didn’t have anyone to impress.

“Lucy,” Graham called to me as I walked toward my office. I smiled and waved at him.

  “Good morning.”

“I see you’re feeling better,” he grinned.

“Much better. It wasn’t the most pleasant experience.”

“You must have been running pretty hard to hit the wall like that.”

I hadn’t told him exactly what happened. My sister still needed her secrets. “I wasn’t. It was just one of those klutzy moments that ends really badly.”

“Well, I’m glad you’re feeling better. How about I take you out to dinner tonight, as a sort of welcome back?”

I smiled slightly, but knew that I couldn’t accept. Hunter wouldn’t like me going out with Graham. He didn’t like him to begin with and it would only piss him off considering what Graham had said to him at the barbecue.

“I’m really sorry, Graham, but I’m seeing someone and I can’t go out with you to dinner.”

His smile dimmed, but he took it well. “Lucy, I just meant as friends, but I understand. I wouldn’t like it if my girlfriend was going out with someone else.”

  “Thank you for understanding.”

I stood there for a moment, feeling slightly awkward. The last we had spoken, neither of us were dating anyone. Not that we really talked about it, but one minute I was going with him to the conference and the next, I had broken my nose and gained a boyfriend.

  “How was the conference?”

“It was good. You missed some really good speakers.”

“I won’t miss it next time.”

“Listen,” he cleared his throat. “I have class. I’m glad you’re feeling better.”

  “Thanks, Graham.”

I walked into my office and set my bag down. That had bordered on painful. How was I going to continue to work with him if things remained awkward? Ever since that kiss, things just weren’t the same between us. I got to work, trying to forget about Graham. I had a lot of work to catch up on. I got through most of the day relatively unscathed. The classes went quickly and luckily, the teachers that had filled in for me had followed my plans well. By the time I packed up for the day, I felt pretty good about getting back to work.

Walking out to my car, I stopped when I saw a figure hunched over by my car. I couldn’t tell who it was, but whoever it was, was up to no good. I walked forward, hand on my mace and looked closer. It was Seth.

  “Seth, what are you doing-”

My tires were slashed. My mouth gaped and I took a step back.

  “Ms. Grant-”

“Don’t!” I yelled, holding up the can of mace. “Don’t move.”

I pulled out my phone and called 9-1-1, all the while Seth was talking to me. I ignored him, choosing to let the police deal with him. A man approached that I recognized as the football coach.

  “Seth, what’s going on here?”

“He slashed my tires. I just called the police.”

  “Seth?” Coach Boots asked.

“I came out here and the tires were already slashed. The knife is there on the ground.”

“Did you touch it?” the coach asked.

Seth looked down at the ground.

“Seth, we talked about this,” the coach said cryptically.

The police arrived a few minutes later and given my statement and Seth’s lack of explanation, they cuffed him and took him away. While they were dealing with him, I called Hunter and asked him to com
e pick me up.

“Seth really is a good kid. He just-” Coach Boots sighed and ran a hand over his head.

“Coach Boots, Seth has been following me around school, saying weird things to me since I started. I filed a complaint against him with the dean. I didn’t want to, but it’s bordering on harassment. My apartment was broken into, and now he’s standing next to my car with my tires slashed and he touched the knife. I tried not to jump to conclusions, but this has to stop.”

“I understand. I just never pictured Seth doing something like this.”

I nodded, understanding what he was saying. No one wanted to believe that someone they liked was capable of doing such things, but it happened.

“What happened?” Graham asked as he walked up. “Holy crap. Who did that?”

“Seth. He was kneeling down next to my car when I got here.”

“Shit. Do you need a ride?”

  “No, Hunter’s on his way.”

He nodded and took a step back. “Well, I’ll wait with you until he gets here. I’m sure this was a frightening thing to see.”

  “Thank you. I appreciate it.”

Hunter pulled up a few minutes later and got out of his truck, walking over to my car to take a look. I could see the tension in his body as he examined the tires. The police had already taken the knife and had left. Campus security was still waiting close by. Hunter walked over to me, glaring at Graham.

“Graham was waiting with me until you got here,” I said in explanation. Hunter didn’t explode like I thought he would. Instead, he held out his hand and shook Graham’s.

“Thank you. I appreciate you looking out for her. Lucy says that you’ve been walking her out to her car most nights.”

Graham nodded. “Yeah, well, it’s not safe for women to walk alone at night. There was a girl that disappeared from the campus last year, and after Seth started following her, I thought it was best if someone walked out with her.”

“Like I said, I appreciate it.”

I was totally shocked. Hunter was standing here and not only being civil to Graham, but also thanking him. He really was trying to turn things around for me and I felt myself melting more and more every minute I was around him.

Graham walked away and Hunter turned to me.

“I would really like for you to stay with me until this is all sorted out.”

“I don’t know that that’s a good idea. We’re just finding our footing and that might confuse things.”

“Lucy, I’m not going to get scared if you stay with me. Besides, I’ll just sit outside your apartment and worry about you if you aren’t with me. I just need to know that you’re safe.”

“Well, shit. Who could say no to something like that?”

He grinned and gave me a kiss. “I’ll call a tow truck and have your tires fixed by morning, but if you want, I can drive in with you and make sure you get in okay.”

“I think I’ll be fine driving on my own. Besides, the police took Seth into custody. I’m sure things will be fine now.”

He didn’t look like he believed that, but he didn’t argue with me. “Come on. I’ll take you back to your place to grab some stuff for a few days.”

As we drove home, Hunter seemed a little irritable and I couldn’t figure out what was bothering him. Was he having a change of heart already? I stared out my window, hoping that I hadn’t laid it all on the line again, only to be disappointed. When we pulled up alongside my apartment, Hunter sat there for a minute staring out the windshield.

“Lucy, I need to tell you something and I need you to not freak out about it.”

Shit, I knew this was going to happen. He was changing his mind. That took a whole half hour. He turned to me and I could see that he was really nervous.

“Just spit it out, Hunter. You’ve changed your mind.” I shook my head and let out a deep breath. “I knew this would happen. I knew you would freak out.”

“What? No, Lucy, that’s not it at all.” He took my hand and ran his thumb up and down the back of my hand. “I know that I told you I wouldn’t do anything to manipulate you and I swear that’s not what I was doing.”

  “What are you talking about?”

“Derek and I have had someone following you for the past few weeks. After everything that happened with the notes and your apartment, I didn’t want you to be left alone when you were out.”

I sat there silent for a moment. I couldn’t say that I was necessarily angry with him, I was more just stunned. “Wait, if someone was following me, then they must have seen who slashed my tires.”

“Chance was following you to work and then he was coming back around the time you normally leave. You left early today. He was just about to come to sit in the parking lot when you called me.”

  “Oh.”

“I’m really sorry I didn’t tell you before. I just wanted to make sure you stayed safe after your apartment was broken into.”

“Is that why I haven’t been getting any notes?”

“Probably. There’s also something else you need to know.” I looked at him warily. “I have a theory that whoever shot me was the same person leaving the notes. I think they’re mad that you were spending time with me and they were trying to get rid of me.”

My mouth dropped open in shock. That was insane. “But, I’ve seen you a lot since then. I’ve stayed with you. Why hasn’t anything else happened?”

“We’ve been taking extra precautions. Since I was shot, I think he doesn’t want to hurt you. I think he just doesn’t want you with anyone else. I should have told you sooner though. Then, maybe we could have had someone staying on the campus with you. It would have been safer.”

I had a choice to make. I could be mad at Hunter for keeping me in the dark about what he and Derek were doing, or I could see that he was trying to protect me and get over my expectations that everything always went my way.

“What do we do from here?” I finally said.

He looked at me, a little shocked that I hadn’t started yelling at him. “Why don’t we go inside and discuss our options?”

Progress. Both of us were learning to deal with each other in a calm, rational manner that was respectful of each other’s feelings. We got out of his truck and walked up to my apartment. I didn’t even bat an eyelash when he held out his hand for my keys. He unlocked the door and held my hand as we walked inside and he entered the security code. He checked out the small space and then came to sit at my corner table with me.

“Now that you know the situation, what would you like to do?”

“I think I should leave it up to you to decide.”

“It’s not really my decision. I’m not allowed to be on your protection detail, if that’s what you decide. I’ll call Derek over and he can go over options with us.”

While Hunter called Derek, I got my bag out and started packing a few things to take to Hunter’s. By the time I was done, Derek was out in the kitchen talking with Hunter.

“So, what did you decide?” I asked, walking into the kitchen.

“Well,” Derek started. “Here are your options. We can take you to a safe house, which would be probably the safest option for now, but then you wouldn’t be able to go to work. We wouldn’t want to risk being followed back there and give up that location. Second, you could stay with Hunter and have a security detail on you, with at least one person that would stay with you at the school during the day to make sure that no one tries to get to you there. Third, we could continue with our current arrangement, but you’d have to tell us exactly what time you’d be leaving the school so that someone could always be there to walk in and out with you.”

I turned to Hunter, wanting to defer to him for now. “What do you think, Hunter?”

“It’s up to you,” he shrugged. “I want you to be safe, but I’m not going to tell you what to do.”

“Would I be safe with our current arrangement?”

He looked to Derek and Derek rolled his eyes. “Yes, you’d
be safe.”

“What do you think I should do, Hunter?”

“What would you like to do?” he asked.

“I want to do whatever you think is best.”

“I just want you safe. I’ll go along with whatever you think you can handle.”

“Well, this is your area of expertise, so I think it should be your decision.”

“I won’t tell you what to do. We’ll keep you safe no matter what you decide.”

“Still, I would feel better knowing what you think is best.”

  “I understand that, but-”

“Good God,” Derek broke in. “What the fuck is wrong with you two?”

“What are you talking about?” Hunter asked.

Derek’s eyes bugged out and he slapped himself a few times in the face. “You two. Something is seriously fucked up here. Both of you went from being so goddamn stubborn that you fought each other tooth and nail on everything and now neither of you can make a decision for fear of hurting the other’s feelings.”

“I’m just trying to be respectful. I walked all over her before and I won’t do that again.”

“And I’m trying to defer to him. I understand that this is his area of expertise and he knows what would be best.”

“And while that’s true,” Hunter cut in with a grin, “I never want to steamroll you again. I know how I fucked up before and I won’t do that again.”

“I kind of like that intense side of you.”

“Yeah?” he quirked an eyebrow at me.

“Yeah, just in the right situation.”

“And what’s the right situation?” he asked.

“When you know what’s best for me,” I smirked.

“I can think of several occasions when I know what’s best for you.”

“Maybe later tonight you can give me an example.”

“Please, make it stop,” Derek groaned. “This is like a really bad porno flick.” He sighed and sat down at the table with us. Hunter and I were still grinning at each other. “Hey,” Derek snapped his fingers in front of us. “A little concentration here, please.”
