Jeff stared at her, heavy lidded, entranced by the vision of her. She bounced her buttocks on the chaise, working it. He yanked her forward until she was nearly sitting up. He drew her leg over his and now they were entwined in a completely new position.
Dana pushed her foot off the soft aggregate and danced on him with rapid up and down motion. She jiggled and drove Jeff over the edge. He lunged for her hand and placed it back where it had been. With a frenzy, she worked it until the both of them came undone with ecstasy.
They were like fireworks bursting in the sky, crying out without a care of what the neighbors thought. They writhed to ride out the last sweet spasm of their climax until the very last. They touched foreheads, steeped in the afterglow as they slowly came back to earth.
“My goodness but that was delicious,” he said.
“I have no words except thanks,” she said.
“You’re quite welcomed,” he said very businesslike.
Dana startled at his tone, not sure what to make of it. He burst out laughing, tipping their bodies onto the chaise and disconnecting. He shifted from his amusement for a serious moment. It took nothing for that doped look to return to his face, like just the thought of her made him high. He kissed her lazily.
“Are you hungry?” he whispered.
“Starved,” she said now that the thought of it.
From an end table between the chaises, Jeff took a sheet towel for her and took one for himself. He swaddled himself and headed back into the house, promising to be right back. He returned with cubed seedless water melon and two small servings of champagne.
“I don’t drink this much, promise,” he said. “But I felt like celebrating.”
Dana leaned up and kissed him. It was nice to be able to share affection on impulse. He spiked the watermelon and fed it to her before holding the champagne to her lips to sip. It was a delicious combination.
It had been after nine pm when Dana arrived at Jeff’s house and now it was officially late. It had been a long, eventful day. After their fill of fruit and champagne, they bathed under the warm water of the outdoor shower. With her back to him, unexpectedly, she felt his hand in her hair.
The crisp fragrance of oranges filled the air and she realized, he was washing her hair. It was lovely. By the time all was said and done, it was close to midnight and Dana had a long winding drive back home.
He draped her with a fresh, cozy towel which her chilled damp body welcomed. He drew her against his hard body and hugged her.
“You are welcomed to stay the rest of the night if you wish,” he said. “I have an enormous empty bed that you would fill nicely. You’ll hardly know I am there.”
“Well that’s no fun,” she teased.
“I am lying. I’ll be all over you,” he said.
She laughed softly. He could say just about anything and she would find it funny. But she wanted to go home and crash in her own bed, among her boxes, in her own space. She wasn’t looking forward to it on the part of the drive that was ultra rural but it wouldn’t take long for her to get home.
“I have had a wonderful day followed by a wonderful evening,” she said. “But I have to get up early in the morning.”
Jeff kissed her lazily. She loved the way he tasted and she would linger there in his arms endlessly but exhaustion was creeping in. She finished drying off and dressed. He walked her to her car. It was hard calling it a night.
“Please call me when you are in your house safely,” he said. “If I don’t hear from you, I will call the police.”
“Oooh,” she purred. “Bossy.”
Jeff stooped so that he and Dana were eye to eye.
“I am dead serious,” he said. “It’s late. You’re tired. You’ve had some alcohol and the roads are a little wild until you get out to the pike. Let me know you’re home safely.”
“Yes sir,” she said.
She kissed him, only with her lips but it was a slow sensual kiss. She remembered the taste and the feel of him all the way home and as she cuddled into her pillow. She pulled the covers up around her before texting him. “Home.”
“Good,” he wrote back. “Nite.”
Chapter Five
Leaving Jeff’s, Dana had been so tired that she got her wires cross. She actually did not have to be up early the next day after all. On her last day off before she returned to work from her move, she swore off all phones and computer and hunkered down to unpack.
She cut off the electronics just because of the distraction they created. Since she and Jeff covered so much ground so fast on their very day of meeting, she thought it was wise to pace themselves. It would take everything she had but she would give him a day before checking in again.
It was good she had that day. She had not had that much to drink the day before but it was more than she was used to. She was also an early-to-bed kind of person. Late nights she decided, would have to a wait until weekends.
By the end of the day, she made serious progress in the boxes but she was officially worn out. Now she really could use another day off just to recuperate. It was hard to go back to actual work.
When she did go in, there hovering at her desk was the woman who made Dana’s meeting Jeff possible. Her friend Cheryl knew that Dana had lunch plans and she was there at Dana’s desk for the details.
“Look what the cat dragged in,” Cheryl remarked. “How did the date go?”
“Dates,” corrected Dana.
“You rascal,” Cheryl said in her ever-dry tone.
Just as Dana was about to respond to that, a mailroom person appeared from around the corner, delivering a vase of roses. Cheryl and Dana murmured that they wondered who those were for, never dreaming they would be for Dana. But they were.
Dana read the card. The flowers were from Jeff. She felt her body sway remembering him.
“I had a wonderful time. Look forward to more,” it read.
Cheryl tried to spy but Dana wanted to read the message by herself first. Then she shared it with her friend. Cheryl grinned.
“You slept with him,” she remarked.
“I am not tellin’,” Dana shied away, genuinely embarrassed.
“You don’t have to,” Cheryl replied. “It’s not my first day on the planet. So spill.”
“He’s really cute. He’s really nice,” Dana responded, trying not to gush.
“Had to be. Sounds like you were really nice to him back,” she said.
Dana colored with an intense blush.
“Look at you,” Cheryl laughed. “Did you get your trip around the world?”
“We definitely made reservations,” Dana joked.
“Goodness,” replied Cheryl. “That doesn’t even make sense but I know exactly what you mean.”
Then Dana was struck with a question. She hadn’t mentioned to Jeff where she worked. She quickly pulled up the dating website.
“Did you put this place on that profile you made for me?” she asked.
“No,” said Cheryl. “You didn’t tell him?”
“No,” she said.
“Someone went to a lot of trouble to make sure you got your flowers,” remarked Cheryl. “Tell me if you’re free for lunch. I need to hear all about it. But I better go back to my desk and earn my living.”
Dana took a snapshot of the flowers with her phone and sent them to Jeff with thanks. She got an instant reply.
“So how did you know where I worked?” she asked.
“I stalked you,” he answer and then quickly added, “that’s a joke. But I did do an internet search. Your firm participated in a charity race I was involved in last year.”
“We did,” she beamed from ear to ear.
“I called to confirm you were still with that company and then I sent those bad boys over,” he answered.
“What would you have done if I had changed jobs?” Dana typed.
“I would have bribed your HR manager for a forwarding address,” he wrote.
“Good answer,” she replied
.
Cheryl had been right. He certainly did go to a lot of trouble to make sure she had flowers. She pushed her nose into the bouquet and breathed in.
“They’re beautiful,” she wrote.
“So are you,” he said. “I didn’t hear from you yesterday so I wanted to make sure you knew what I thought about you.”
“I had to bust out my house or I would never get anything done. You make it hard to focus on other things,” she typed.
“Just checking. I am actually tied up the next few days with work. Of course, I also have to catch up on my beauty sleep. But be prepared, I am coming to get you Dana Miller.”
“’Kay,” she wrote back. “You better.”
She took half of the flowers home with her so that she could enjoy them at both home and work. She had a ridiculous appetite but she too had to catch up on her beauty sleep. She ordered through the drive through, ate it and then hit the sheets. She too had to get her beauty sleep. She slept a luscious ten hours.
Chapter Six
The few days, Dana and Jeff didn’t communicate too much. With the highs of their interaction, a slower pace was a good thing because she didn’t want to burn themselves out. Cheryl said her own personal experience was that she could be all hot for a person and be over them before they met.
“It happens,” said Cheryl. “Welcome to the weird world of online dating. Things change so fast.”
But Dana was fresh and ready when Jeff sent an invite for lunch. She had been inspired to dress every day in hot but office-appropriate attire just in case she would have to meet him on the fly. She even packed a pair of extra high heels that she could slipped into.
“Can you be a little late coming back if we have to be?” he asked.
“Would you let me be late coming back from work?” she replied.
“Oh I would have to discipline you,” he answered.
He made her giggle at her desk. She was definitely going to be late coming back from work. Dana’s boss who never left her office, would never know if she were to take an extra long break that merged into her lunch hour. As soon as he texted he was there, she freshened her makeup and met him out front of her building.
Dana had been so focused on her own appearance and pleasing him, that she never imagined she would be so taken with the way he looked. When she met him that first day at the restaurant, he was jeans casual. At the pool, he greeted her in swimming shorts and a T-shirt.
Though her office was in the heart of the business district in a thriving metropolitan area, and Jeffrey Edgarian was mega-hitter in business, she had not expected him to be dressed in a suit.
He looked like he stepped off the cover of GQ. He was so stunning. Dana felt her own insides twitch.
“You okay?” he asked, a little confused by her reaction.
He leaned into her so that their faces were but a breath apart.
“Yeah,” she whispered. “You’re just so hot.”
Dana had surprised him too. That was not what he had expected to hear. He was speechless. She liked that.
“You don’t know how to take that kind of compliment, do you?” she whispered.
“I could get used to it,” he replied softly.
“I’ll see to it,” she said.
She kissed him gingerly and then they walked to a lunch spot the next block over, holding hands Jeff’s eyes were glued to her as she walked.
“How do you walk in those things?” he asked, his eyes glazed over.
She let go of his hand and strutted a little.
“Like this,” she flirted.
She watched him watch her and gave him a wink. He hoisted her at the waist and backed her against the wall of a granite building. He looked her dead in the eye before he kissed her passionately, right there on the street, in front of the mid-day pedestrian lunch traffic. Dana was mesmerized. The two of them were doped and starry eyed, unable to get over one another.
“Where did you park?” she asked.
“In the garage in your building,” he asked. “Why?”
“Just wondering?” she replied.
Actually she was thinking that they could steal a few heated moments together in his car. But it was just a notice. He moved his face close to hers and spoke to her with pretend firmness.
“I asked you a question,” he said sternly. “One.”
Dana played along.
“What was the question?” she asked innocently.
He arched his eyebrow emphatically.
“I said, why don’t you ask about the garage?” he repeated.
Dana cupped her hand to his ear and whispered.
“I was thinking maybe we could fool around in your car before you sent me back to work,” she whispered.
He did the same to her. He replied in a barely audible tone directly into her ear.
“I was thinking the same thing,” he said. “But then I think that’s going to happen a lot with you. You know, where you make me think of sex.”
Dana was way too ticklish and she couldn’t stand still to listen. She giggled as she struggled to maintain composure in broad day light. He wouldn’t let her go.
“Shall we go to lunch now?” he asked. “And maybe talk about this? Like at lunch? I would like to actually buy you a proper meal.”
Before he moved away from her, he kissed her ear. She held him to her, hugging him before they continued walking. They could not keep their hands off of one another. They strolled, their arms entwined, their fingers enmeshed. The chemistry that flowed between them was positively electric.
They went to another American cuisine place called Chef Geoff’s. He pointed to the sign before they entered the building.
“Hey with a name like that it’s gotta be good, right?” he said.
“You are so silly,” said Dana.
When they were seated, she immediately felt his foot stroking her leg. She never thought that touching like that would turn her on but it did. He managed to aroused her in front of a room filled with people, some she could potentially see again, if like her, they worked in the area.
How someone could be good at dragging their feet along her shin, she didn’t know but what Jeff was doing unfurled heat in her. It was all she could do to keep her voice from cracking as the waitress took her order.
“Iced tea,” she warbled.
“You okay there?” asked Jeff innocently.
But he knew that he had turned her on to the point where she could hardly speak.
“Fine,” Dana played along.
“Sweetened or unsweetened?” asked the waitress.
Just as she gave her answer, Jeff dipped beneath the hem of her skirt and stroked the inside of her thigh. She spasmed.
“UnSWEETened,” she said.
Figuring out that something was up, the waitress gave them both a scowl.
“I better be good,” he said. “Don’t wanna get the waitress pissed.”
Without warning, out of nowhere, a photographer snapped a picture of them. Jeff put his hand up and blocked the camera’s view of Dana’s face, though she and he could still see each other.
“Hey guy, back off,” he said tensely.
It was the first glimpse that Dana had of what Jeff might be like if he were angry. He was so mild mannered and even tempered. But he was unmistakably hot.
“Just taking a few pics, Mr. Edgarian,” the photographer snapped another picture.
Jeff lunged and knocked the camera onto the ground, causing the camera to break. The crash stopped stilled the restaurant crowd and all eyes were on them.
“I am having lunch here,” Jeff glared. “Take a hike.”
“It’s a public place,” said the photographer. “And I am about to get a new camera.”
“Congratulations,” said Jeff. “It’s a private lunch.”
By this time the restaurant manager joined them.
“What’s the problem here?” he demanded of Jeff.
“This guy is taking our picture while we are just m
inding our own business,” said Jeff.
The photographer shrugged like he didn’t know what Jeff was talking about.
“And what’s so special about you that he would need to take a picture?” asked the manager.
“Beats the shit out of me,” said Jeff.
That was the first time she had heard him swear. He turned to Dana. The manager spoke.
“From what I know, you just assaulted him,” he said.
“I am so sorry about all of this,” he said, smoldering with rage and frustration.
“Does this happen all the time?” she asked.
“Pretty much,” said Jeff.
“Wanna go?” she asked softly.
“No I want to have a nice lunch like everyone else,” he said.
“What are you going to do about my camera?” asked the photographer.
“Not my problem,” said Jeff.
“Hey I was just taking a picture of the street scene through the window and this guy flips out,” the camera man lied. “I don’t even know who this guy is.”
“Ah yeah right asshole,” Dana snapped. “That’s why you called him ‘Mr. Edgarian.’”
Jeff grinned. His eyes flared with excitement at Dana’s outburst.
“God you’re adorable,” he remarked. “Remind me to get your riled when we’re alone.”
The manager’s face ashened.
“Jeffrey Edgarian? I think you might be my boss,” he said.
“I guess so at that,” said Jeff. “You should be careful who you take a tone with and you should not allow this crap to happen. I don’t care who I am. No one should be bothered while they’re trying to enjoy a meal.”
“I am so sorry about this,” said the manager.
“No worries, just make him leave,” said Jeff nicely.
“I will ask you again, what about my camera?” asked the photographer.
“What about it?” Jeff batted his eyelashes.
“You broke it,” the camera man said.
Jeff laughed.
“You knew who I was. You must know where I work. Send me a letter. Now get,” he said.
