“A demon hunter? Why would she be with Cresher?”
“I think Cresher just got wind of the books she might be selling. I don’t think she has a clue about her real bloodlines.”
Damien nodded. So Jade was born in a long line of demon hunters. The real question was whether she was as innocent as Preston seemed to think.
Jade tried every door and window in the house. Everything was locked, and the windows were either painted or boarded up. She couldn’t even try to flag someone down for help. When it looked like an exit wasn’t an option, she started looking for a weapon.
She brushed her fingers along the elegantly carved woodwork and sighed a little. The place really was beautiful. “Focus, Jade,” she muttered to herself. Just because her kidnapper was incredibly sexy and apparently very old and rich didn’t mean that he wasn’t dangerous.
“Let’s see. I’ve got some books,” she said as she opened the bookcase. “And a letter opener.” She fingered the silver instrument before sliding it into her sleeve of her sweater. “”And a lantern.”
She kept moving around the room. “Some paintings, a statue that I can’t pick up. And a sword.” She cocked her head and pulled the sword out of its sheath.
“Planning on doing something with that?”
Jade gripped the sword and whirled around. Damien was only feet away from her. How did he move so silently? She gasped softly. “Just admiring it. I love a good sword.”
He moved even closer. “So you’re familiar with swords.” Her back hit the table as he reached over and pulled out the other sword.
“Sure,” she said as he brushed the flat metal against her neck. “I love it when things are shiny.” She swallowed hard when he backed away from her. God, heat was radiating from him. She didn’t know whether to lean over and lick his skin or scream for help.
He poked her gently with the sword. “Let’s see what you’ve got,” he muttered.
Her eyes widened. “Oh, I can’t really do anything with this,” she mumbled. But he was already raising his sword to bring it down.
Jade shrieked and ducked. “Are you insane?”
“So you aren’t familiar with swords play?” he said as he backed away. He raised the sword again.
“I sell books,” she hissed. “I’m not a connoisseur of weaponry.”
“And what about fighting styles? Is there another weapon that you’d prefer? Or do you like hand to hand?” he asked as the sword swung through the air again.
This time, she brought the sword down to deflect it. “What the hell are you talking about?”
“You descend from a family of hunters, Jade. It makes me wonder if there’s something you aren’t telling me.”
“Hunters?” she cried out as the sword came down again. “I grew up in the city. No one in my family hunts. We’re very big on grocery shopping.”
He smiled. “You’re so good at playing innocent aren’t you?” He brought the sword down again, and she ducked and fell to the floor. The sword bit into her shoulder, she pushed it away and kicked behind his knee. When he stumbled and fell on top of her, she pulled out the letter opener and held it to his throat.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she muttered. “No one in my family hunted, and I don’t have any kind of fighting styles. I’m just a bookstore owner.”
“Says the woman with the sharp weapon at my throat,” he murmured.
“Survival instinct,” she whispered. Although, right then, her instincts were telling her something different. As his weight pressed against her, she was already opening her legs. The blade shook and clattered to the floor.
He dipped his head so that it was only inches from hers, and it took everything she had not to beg him to kiss her. “You’ve got some slick moves for someone who doesn’t have any experience.”
Her heart pounded, and her skin flushed. “You have no idea how slick I am,” she muttered.
“Christ,” he muttered and dipped his head. As his lips touched hers, she moaned. It was just as hot and passionate as she imagined it would be. Chill bumps rose over her arms as she reached up and slid her fingers through his hair. He thrust his tongue inside her.
Her legs came up and circled his waist and his tongue made a path down her neck. She arched her chest as his hands came up to cup her breast.
“Wait,” she said as he gently massaged her. “Wait!” She pushed him away. Panic seized her when he lifted himself and stared at her. She tried to scramble out from underneath him.
“What exactly are you talking about? What do you mean a family of hunters?”
He grabbed the back of her knees and lifted them. “Demon hunters. Your grandfather was an active demon hunter.”
Her heart skipped a beat when he ran his hands down the back of her thigh. Even through her jeans, his heat seared her. She tried to focus. “And you think I’m a demon hunter?”
“No.”
She squirmed when his hands reached under her shirt. The touch of skin on skin jolted her, and she gasped. “Why not?”
“Your fighting skills are terrible,” he muttered. “No one trained could fake it that bad.” He dipped his head and followed the path of fingers with his tongue.
“Terrible? I had you at the end of a weapon,” she said as she squirmed.
“I saw an opportunity, and I took it.”
She moaned when he popped her out of her bra and licked her nipple. “Oh God,” she cried out. She knocked her head back on the floor as her nipples tightened under his talented tongue. “What? An opportunity for what?”
“An opportunity to taste you.”
She closed her eyes, and when he raked his teeth over her nipples, she finally reached up to touch him. Under his shirt, she explored his muscles and raked her nails over his skin. “Damien,” she gasped.
There was something so intense about his touch. Never in her life has she felt so turned on. As his rough beard scraped over her skin, she knew she needed more.
Jade reached down and unsnapped her jeans. Her hips bucked as she wiggled out of them, and he moaned as rubbed up against him.
“Eager, aren’t you?” he muttered.
Her legs came up and rubbed up against him. The rough jeans covering his bulge raked over her sensitive spot, and she arched her back and cried out.
Shimmying down her body, he moaned. She felt bereft when his weight lifted. “No,” she said begged, but then he was kneeling between her legs.
“So wet,” he murmured as he pulled her panties aside. He pressed a finger inside her. “So tight.”
“Fuck,” she gasped. Her insides were turning to jelly as he moved his finger in and out. She twisted around desperately seeking a release. He added a second finger, and she clawed at the floor. “More. Please, more.”
“My pleasure,” he muttered. He reached in and licked her. Pleasure shot through her until it was almost unbearable. She wrapped her thighs around his head and urged him more.
Jade closed her eyes and stilled as he drove her up and up and up. She stopped breathing. “So close,” she murmured. “Oh, God. Don’t stop. Please. Please. Please! Ah!” Her body convulsed as her pleasure peaked.
He didn’t let her down. He licked her again until she was twisting to get away. “Sensitive,” she muttered. “So sensitive.”
She twisted her body and sprawled on her belly on the floor. Her legs were still shaking, and she shuddered. God, how could one man make her feel this way?
She heard the unbuckling of his pants, and she felt his hands run up her legs.
Damien stared at her moist pussy as he separated her legs. He was hard and heavy as he imagined how he would feel inside her body. Gripping her hips, he flipped and lifted until she was on all fours.
She made a sweet little mewling sound as he rubbed up against her. He watched her hands reach to grip something as he probed her entrance.
“Jade,” he whispered. His heart was pounding as he watched her sweet bottom rub up against him. Never had he
been so aroused in his entire life. There was something about her that he just had to have.
Inch by inch, he slid into her. “Christ,” he gasped. She cried out and tried to take more of him.
“Wait, baby,” he moaned. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Please,” she cried out. “More. You’re almost there.”
He stilled. “Where?” His voice was low and husky with desire.
“My spot. My sweet spot.” She wiggled her hips.
He reached around and fingered her clit, and she moaned. “Tell me what you want, baby. I want to hear it.”
“God, I need to come. Please,” she begged.
He growled and slid all the way to the hilt. Something primal awoke inside him and roared, and he had to force himself not to ravage her.
“Jade, you feel amazing,” he muttered. God, her muscles were tightening around him. He shuddered.
“Damien. You’re right there. Please.” She slapped her hands on the floor. “Fuck me, Damien. Hard.”
He roared and began to thrust. She matched every pump and gasped. Her hands slid on the floor, and as she fell even lower to the floor, he hissed.
Grabbing her hips, he rocked back until he was lying down. She squealed as he fell even deeper insider her, and she rocked against. “No. Turn around,” he demanded. “I want to see your face.”
Obedient, she turned her body, straddled him, and sank on to him once again. He watched in awe as her head fell back, and she nearly screamed. He grabbed her hips and forced her to move. God, he wanted to see her face at peak pleasure. He wanted to see what he could do to her.
She panted. Over and over again, she slammed down on him. He groaned as her nails bit into him, and he raised his body to meet her lips. She encircled her arms around him and devoured him.
His body tensed, and for a minute, he didn’t he could last any longer as he slid in and out of her wet folds. “Jade,” he gasped.
But her body seized, and she threw her head back and screamed his name as another orgasm ricochet through her body.
He gasped and surged his hips into her as he emptied himself into her warmth.
When her body finally floated back down to earth, she limply raised her head. Damien was slick and sweaty, and he was watching her intensely.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
“Uh.” She pushed herself away. “I don’t know what that was.” Embarrassment flushed her cheeks, and she tried to avoid his gaze. “But, yeah I’m good.” She cleared her throat. “I think.” What had just happened? She felt like he’d stripped more than just her body. He’d stripped her very soul bare.
“Jade.” His hands gripped her. “Look at me.”
She rolled her shoulders around and finally met his gaze. “Look, I don’t know if this was some sort of tactic that you use to wrench the truth out of someone, but, I can assure you that I’m still sticking with my story. I’m not a demon hunter, and I’m not connected with your brother in any way.”
He reached up and stroked her cheek with his finger. “I know.”
She pulled away. “So I can go?” She eyeballed the exit and struggled to get herself back into her twisted bra and shirt.
Damien tensed under her. “You want to go?”
She shuddered as he stirred inside her and immediately moved. She grabbed her jeans and shimmied into them. “Well, yes. I mean, you have lots of things to do. A secret society to run. A brother to kill.”
“Jade.” He leapt to his feet, and she immediately turned her head to avoid staring at his glorious body.
“Damien?” She finished snapping her jeans and took a deep breath and she matched his gaze. Her whole body quivered in anticipation of what he would say to her. What was this thing between them that was so intense?
“You’re welcome to leave,” he said as he swept out his arm.
His voice was quiet and dangerous, and she felt everything inside her die. Of course she could leave. He didn’t need her anymore now that he knew she didn’t have anything to do with Cresher. She jutted out her chin. “Good luck,” she whispered and then fled for the door.
It wasn’t until she reached the streets that she looked back. Despair settled in her, and she clutched her abdomen and began trying to find her way back to civilization.
Chapter Five
It took two days before Jade could finally open her bookstore. The keys jingled in her hands nervously as she looked around. “This is ridiculous,” she muttered. “Get it together, Jade.”
She slid the key in the door and opened it. “So there are hybrid demons running around. And one thinks you have something important. And his brother wants to kill him. And his brother gave you the two most intense orgasms of your life. You are not involved anymore. You are just a simple bookstore owner.”
“Are you now?”
Jade screamed and dropped her keys. Damian’s brother walked out of the shadows. “I’ve been waiting three days for you. Where have you been?”
Her head started to pound, and she stumbled back. Unlike when she was with Damien, all Jade felt was fear. “Cresher,” she muttered.
“Oh.” A large devious smile lit up his face. “I see you’ve been acquainted with my brother. Two intense orgasms you said? You should feel lucky. I don’t think Damien’s been with a woman in quite some time.”
She flushed. “What are you doing in my bookstore?”
“I wanted to see if you got a new shipment in with a book I might be interested in,” he muttered.
“I did, but someone else purchased it,” she said quickly. “I told you to leave your contact info, but since you didn’t, I sold it to someone else. But I’ll make sure to hold on to anything else interesting that comes in. Okay, bye!”
He closed in quickly, and she cried out in pain when he grabbed her wrists. He bent it back so hard she was afraid it would snap in half. “You may be immune to my powers, wench,” he hissed. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t hurt you.”
“What do you want,” she cried. True fear gripped her. Damien wasn’t wrong. Cresher was dangerous.
“I want my brother’s head on a stick,” he said as he twisted her arm behind her. “Have you ever wanted to murder a family member, Jade?”
She cried out in pain, and tears filled her eyes. He leaned in close and licked her ear. “Tell me his plan, Jade.”
“I don’t know,” she whispered. “I don’t know his plan. I just know he wants to kill you. He thought I was working with you. He didn’t tell me anything.”
He ran his hands down her body, and she shuddered in revolt. “Don’t,” she said through clenched teeth.
“You might not know anything, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be useful,” he muttered in her ear. “You’re his Conquiha. His one true love. And he’ll come for you without the brotherhood. That’s all I need to get rid of him once and for all.”
“His true love? I barely know him.”
“No, no, no, baby. Damien wouldn’t fuck you unless he felt a connection with you. You belong to him, and it’s going to be my greatest pleasure to take you from him.”
Jade struck out with her foot, and while she wrenched herself away, she barely made it two steps before he had her in a hold again. She felt something prick her neck, and for the second time that week, she passed out.
Damien tapped his finger on his desk. Jade had been gone for three days, but he couldn’t get her out of his head. Her hair wrapped around his fists. The sounds she made when he pleasured her. Her beautiful eyes when she stared at him. The intoxicating aroma of her body. The soft silkiness of her skin.
He groaned. God, he couldn’t get her out of his head. He barely knew her, but there something about her that spoke to him.
His phone rang, and he picked it up. “What?” he growled.
“Damien?”
He gripped the edge of his desk. “Jade. Are you okay? How did you get this number?”
“I’m fine. Actually, I’m not so fine.” Her voice shook,
and Damien pressed his head against the wood.
He’d hurt her. But to be honest, she hurt him first. She jumped and ran out while he was still naked. What was he supposed to do? Stop her? “Jade,” he muttered, and he heard the pain in his voice. “I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry too, brother.”
Damien froze. “Cresher.” Oh God. What had his brother done with her?
“I don’t know what your plan is, but you’re going to have to change it. I have your Conquiah.”
His Conquiha? His heart dropped. Of course she was. Nothing else explained the connection that he had with her. She belonged to him. And now Cresher had her.
“What do you want?” he muttered. Rage filled him. He would kill Cresher.
“I just want to see you, brother. Tonight.”
“Where?”
“I think you know where,” he said silkily.
Of course. The riverbanks where he’d first shown his brother mercy. “Don’t hurt her,” he said through gritted teeth.
“I’ll keep her alive as long as you get here,” Cresher hissed. “But you’ve taken everything from me. I suggest you be prompt, Damien.”
The phone went dead, and Cresher threw it across the room. “Damn it,” he roared.
He got up and started to pace. He barely knew Jade. If he went alone, he risked blowing it altogether, but if he didn’t go, Jade would die.
His Conquiha.
It wasn’t possible. After every mistake he had made, he didn’t deserve a mate. He didn’t deserve a true love. He didn’t deserve Jade.
And Jade didn’t deserve to be in the middle of this mess. But he’d dragged her into this. And he’d do everything he could to save her.
Even if it meant his life.
And Cresher was older and stronger. So it really might mean his life.
