“Of course,” she promised in a whisper. Her heart beat like the shaman's drum in her chest as Kari nodded once and turned, walking away quickly. Her long dark hair seemingly fanning out into wings as she escaped and Yngrid felt a moment of relief before scowling unhappily.
“What was that about?” Speaking out loud she shook her head and turned towards home, limping towards dinner and accompanied by thoughts she could not escape.

This story is based in my own world, Adreena, a world that has been developed over the past four years. The timeline of ancient events talked about in this book are as follows.
The gods created the first race, known as the Aldire, with the intention of creating a race that could ease their own loneliness. They taught the Aldire advanced knowledge and within a thousand years the Aldire grew to cover the globe with cities and outposts. Their advanced knowledge of technology and magic created an empire and without enough natural population to cope the Aldire created the second race, the elves as slaves for themselves. They delved deep into the earth ever thirsty for knowledge and brought the planet to the edge of destruction.
The gods saw this and realised they had made a mistake. They had taught their children knowledge without wisdom and in a titanic night of cataclysms called the night of falling stars; the gods called down stars from the heavens and destroyed their children, the Aldire, and all they had created. Or so they thought.
The gods then decided what to do next. One group wanted to try again, reasoning that if they guided their children a little more, taught them a little more, interacted with them a little more and then the end result would be different. The second group wanted to seed the globe with life and let it evolve naturally, reasoning that they needed time and no interference to gain the wisdom that would allow them to cope with advanced knowledge without following the mistakes that the Aldire did.
The two factions disagreed and as proof of their ideas, the first group created a single being and infused it with all their knowledge. They called it the unformed one for it could take whatever shape it wanted and it was hopelessly insane.
The factions warred and for a year and a day they fought, transforming the earth below. Finally the first group were defeated and imprisoned, out of time and deep within the earth. They were the Undergods. The second group agreed non interference had to be the rule and they became known as the Celestials.
The largest continent is now ruled by the Cillian Federation. On the outside it is a prosperous collection of city states. However, the church of the Celestials rules it with an iron fist. Fear of magic is everywhere and where fear takes root the witch hunters come to destroy it with flame and blade. For every witch they destroy, two more take their place and their greatest fear, are the sorceresses, people born with innate magical powers, powers they cannot control.
