“Gerry was a gentleman about it and very proactive as well. We both had ourselves checked at the nearest health facility after he took me to get my car the following day when he returned from work. We were both tested for STDs and HIV with them all coming out negative. I also spoke with the doctor about the possibility of me being pregnant. The doctor informed us it is too early to tell and I will have to wait a couple more weeks or see if my period starts which is due soon. Then I can take a home pregnancy test. But she did say it would be better to make an appointment with my personal physician or return there to get a more accurate result.
Lena sits there biting her tongue, wanting desperately to scold her friend, but the look on Tura’s face lets her know she’s troubled enough by the mess she’s gotten herself into. So instead she asks “How does Gerry feel about the possibility of you being pregnant with his child? Are you sure he hasn’t bailed on you since you have no way to contact him?” “Lena, please don’t start. You promised, remember?” Tura whines. “Yes, I remember what I promised. I love you Tura, and I don’t want you to go through what I went through with Wayne about Tamisha. It’s hard struggling as a single parent, finding ways to care for your child while continuing to go to school and work. And I’m sure your parents are going to have a lot to say on the issue.”
“Lena” Tura groans getting upset with her and where the conversation seems to be heading. “Gerry is nothing like Wayne. We talked about how to approach every scenario if I’m pregnant. We both don’t believe in abortion, so that is a non-issue. If it turns out I’m pregnant, we discussed the possibility of giving the baby up for adoption. As far as my parents and family are concerned, I’m not ready to mull over what their response will be if I am pregnant. So at the moment for me, my family reaction is the last thing I want to consider. Anyway, my parents may never find out since they aren’t returning from India which you and I will discuss later okay? I have so much on my mind. I feel like it’s going to explode from all the damn drama I’m dealing with.”
Lena stares at Tura hearing the news about her parents and wondering when she had planned to tell her she’s been abandoned by her family. And how she intends to deal with college financially on her own? With Tura having to worry about a baby and all the other complications going on in her life, Lena knows she needs a friend more than someone finger pointing at how poorly she’s handled her life.
Zoning back into the conversation, she squeezes Tura’s hand for moral support and asks “Tura, can you really do that? I mean give your baby away to strange people?” “I don’t know Lena. I really don’t know. But like I said Gerry and I talked about everything including the both of us being parents even if we’re not together as a couple. He promised he would be a hands-on father and would financially take care of her or him and I would also be able to finish college and get my degree in criminal law. But we can’t make any decisions on this matter until it’s confirmed I’m pregnant or not.”
Lena hugs her friend and looks her dead in her eyes. “I don’t have any romantic feelings for Gerard/Gerry. We’ve only dated a few times, and the only sexual contact we’ve shared is a few kisses; that’s it. We are nothing more than friends Tura. Yeah, was attracted him, but it doesn’t compare to what I feel for Fahim or how he makes me feel. I’m in love with Fahim Zavala, Tura. It’s the last time I’m going to say this to you. Gerard and I are only friends. If you my friend, my sister from another mother, have feelings and want to pursue a relationship with him, I say go for it. I value our friendship too and you being involved with Gerard will not jeopardize it, understand?” “Yes,” Tura says with a genuine smile slowly spreading across her face. “I love you too bestie.” “And I love you as well” Lena confirms with an authentic smile on her face.
With mischief written all over her face, Lena says “You know what running through my mind?” “No Lena I don’t. What are you thinking? You look like you’re up to something” Tura answers. “Oh, I’m not up to anything. I was thinking about the Stewarts Christmas dinner and how exciting things will be for all parties involved. Lovely said it is okay to bring you with Tamisha and me. Fahim will be there and so will Gerard. And don’t forget Michael’s flirty ass. It’s is going to be fascinating indeed.”
“I agree with you Lena it going to be an interesting event. We will handle whatever crops up out of this crazy situation and hope it will be a drama free evening. Maybe we will see Michael’s wife, Labrina, check his cheating ass. If she doesn’t do or say anything to her sneaky husband, Fahim will definitely set Michael Gideon straight” Tura replies. Lena shakes her head in agreement saying “I’m keeping my fingers crossed things will work out with both of us being successful in our romantic endeavors and pray Michael stays in his lane. I’m hoping for a positive outcome, and we all have a very wonderful and happy holiday season with all our wishes coming true.”
Lena places her hands on her knees to stand up. She says “So now that we’ve got the emotional tension out of the way I’m hungry. Let’s bundle up and head out to grab something to eat. Afterward, we will return and play dress up to make a decision on what we will be wearing out tonight to the fraternity Christmas party. We might as well enjoy our single status before we get tied down with our potential love interests.” “Girl, you are silly” Tura replies with laughter in her voice as she shakes her head in agreement. But her thoughts are totally elsewhere wondering if she has a love interest period. Speaking with Lena confirmed Cupid's arrow struck her. The question now remains does Gerry feel the same about her? Or as she put it to Lena earlier in the week, is he experiencing a moment of jungle fever? As she follows Lena out of the room to get their coats, she hopes it isn’t the latter, and she ends up with a broken heart.
CHAPTER 15
Patrick and Lovely walk into Gerry’s office both noticing the bummed out expression on his face. They stood there several seconds before Patrick clears his throat to get his employee’s attention. “Gerry are you okay?” Gerry quickly snaps out of his deep thoughts of Tura hearing his boss’ voice and seeing him along with his wife standing in front of his desk. “Hey Patrick, Lovely. I didn’t hear or see you enter my office. Is there something I can help you with; something that needs my attention?”
Patrick holds his hand up saying “Things related to work are great Gerry. You’re doing a fantastic job, and I have no complaints. The reason Lovely and I stopped by is to confirm you and Lena will be joining us for dinner on Friday. I also wanted to give you your Christmas bonus personally. You’ve done a great job taking over as operations manager here at Hearst Trucking” and hands Gerry an envelope he pulls from the inside pocket of his jacket. Gerry accepts the gift stuffing the envelope in his shirt pocket to look at later. Lovely and Patrick notice how disinterested he is in the generous gift given to him and become concerned.
Gerry sighs and answers Patrick previous question. “I guess Lena and I will be there. She did call to confirm she’s available for our date” and he sighs again. Lovely and Patrick look at each other taking in Gerry’s nonchalant attitude. Lovely feels his attitude has something to do with her friend. She takes a seat in one of the chairs in front of his desk and being nosy asks “Is everything going okay between you and Lena?” “I guess so” he answers with a slight whine. “I mean we are only friends and I was interested in taking our friendship to the next stage of our relationship. That may change after Lena, and I discuss things,” and he exhales again.
Patrick has made himself comfortable in the chair next to Lovely, and Gerry looks at both of them asking “Can I run something by the two of you about women and relationships?” His question piques Lovely’s interest especially if it concerns her friend. She replies “Yes, yes you can Gerry. What seems to be bothering you? Patrick and I are good listeners.” As they wait for Gerry to get his thoughts together, Patrick grabs Lovely’s hand to hold in his still in awe how he got so lucky to be loved by a beautiful and amazing woman. He couldn’t believe they would be celebrating another anniv
ersary soon and was feeling blessed to have her as his wife. He winks at her, and Lovely blows him a kiss before turning her attention back to Gerry to find out what is troubling him.
Lovely didn’t have to wait long as he says “Patrick, remember Monday I gave you a call to let you know I wouldn’t be returning to the office after taking a late lunch? I told you something had come up I needed to handle?” “Yes, I remember the conversation we had Gerry. Does what you had to take care of have something to do with the glum mood you in today?” “Yes, it does Patrick. So before I begin all I ask is not to judge me after hearing what I’ve been involved in the last few days, okay?” “We would never do that Gerry” Patrick quickly answers. Lovely on the other hand says nothing.
“Okay here goes” Gerry begins his tale. I met a breathtaking woman while I was having lunch on Monday. Her parents are from India, but she was born and raised here in the US. Anyway, I was so taken in by her beauty, and she took offense at the way I kept staring at her while she tried to enjoy her meal. We happen to end up sitting next to each other at the bar since the restaurant was crowded. Tura, that’s her name, literally took my breath away. She’s very opinionated and spunky and let me know how she felt about the way I kept gawking at her. But something amazing happened when she and I touched each other, and we looked into each other's eyes feeling explainable fire heat our blood. It was instant attraction which surprised us both.”
“Food forgotten, we left the restaurant and headed to my home where we’ve had amazing sex for the last couple of days. I know I was interested in taking my friendship with Lena to a romantic level but after meeting and being with Tura having a love interest with her is nonexistent for me. I have fallen in love with Tura, and our blazing sexual contact is only part of the reason I love this woman. Tura and I have spent a lot of time together since meeting each other. She’s been at my place all this time only returning to her home today. We didn’t exchange contact information deciding we needed a few days to see if it was just sexual attraction or if we truly have genuine loving feelings for each other. We are supposed to meet at the same restaurant at the same time we were there this past Monday if either of us feels what happened between us is the real deal.”
Lovely remembers Lena asking her if she could bring her friend Tura Figest to the Christmas dinner and hopes she’s not the same woman Gerry has gotten himself involved with. He continues to speak, and she tunes back in. “Patrick, Lovely, I know Lena is a personal friend to you all, and I don’t want to hurt her, but my feelings have changed, hijacked by Tura. I want to see where things may go between us. When I get off work this evening, I’m stopping by Lena’s to tell her everything. I hope she understands and isn’t hurt by what has developed.”
Lovely sighs and says “I’m sure if you’re completely honest with Lena she will understand. You can’t fight what the heart wants. If you’re attracted to another woman, you are doing the right thing explaining things to Lena before emotions get too involved.” Patrick adds “Gerry, why don’t you take the rest of the day off and see if you can meet with Lena this afternoon so you can get this all cleared up. I’m sure Lena would want to know as soon as possible your feelings for her aren’t romantic at all. You can’t play with a woman’s emotions especially if she is feeling some kind of way about you.” “Okay, Patrick. I will do that. Thank you, both for listening and supplying me with some wise advice. I’m hopeful once I explain everything it will all work out fine.” “We hope so Gerry. We sincerely hope so” Lovely states.
CHAPTER 16
Before Lovely can say anything else, her phone rings. “I’m stepping into the hallway to take this call. I’ll be back as soon as I’m done” noticing Lena is calling. Not waiting for the men to respond, she rushes out of the office. Once she is out of hearing distance, she answers “Hello Lena. How are you this afternoon?” “Hey Lovely. I’m doing fine. Just got back from eating a great lunch at Old Charley’s with Tura. How are you and Patrick getting along? Are you both ready for the big move?” “We are great Lena. Our love seems to get stronger and stronger each day we are together. To answer your other question, I’m dreading moving to New York away from my family, friends and all I’ve known for so long. But I love my husband, and he really wants to try and mend fences with his family. So I’m going to make the best out of the situation.” “Lovely as long as you have Patrick and his love, you will make it through this new adventure.” “I hope so Lena. Is there a reason why you called?”
“Yes, there is. I’m not going to keep the dinner invitation Gerry has set up with you and Patrick tomorrow.” “Why not Lena?” Lovely asks with concerned. “Has Gerry done something?” “Oh no, Lovely. Gerry hasn’t done anything. It’s me, my friend. I’ve come to an understanding I been using Gerry. I didn’t want to face the fact I’m in love with Fahim Zavala.” “Seriously!!!” Lovely shouts glad she was standing in Patrick office with the door closed for privacy. “Yes, Lovely seriously” and Lena begins to tell her story and of all parties involved. After several long minutes of “Really!!! Are You Serious!!! Get Out Of Here!!!” from Lovely who is so floored and has taken a seat at her husband’s desk. The shock of what she was hearing is so overwhelming, and she can’t believe all this has been going on right under her nose and she didn’t see it coming.
When Lena is finished with her tale, all Lovely can say is “Damn, girlfriend!!! I thought my love life was theatrical before Patrick and I got married. You may have topped all that drama!!” she says laughing with Lena laughing along with her. Getting herself under control Lena continues “Can you believe Tura has fallen in love with Gerry. And at the first time, they see each other no less!!! But I’m happy for my friend. My only concern is he may not feel the same way she is feeling about him.” Lovely didn’t comment, not wanting to break his confidence. So instead she replies “I’m sure everything will work out to everyone’s benefit.” Lena sighs saying “I hope you’re right Lovely. Now I have to tell Fahim how sorry I am for putting him through my selfish insecurities and hopes he forgives me.”
“Honey, if I know Fahim, he’s waiting by the phone to hear from you.” “I don’t know Lovely, especially after talking to him earlier. I hope you’re right.” Lena has a call coming through and says “Lovely, hold on a second. Someone is beeping in on the other line.” A few seconds later, Lena clicks back over and says “Speaking of the devil, that was Gerry. He wants us to have a talk. If I don’t hear from me before the Christmas dinner, you and Patrick have a great weekend.” “You to girlfriend and I will keep my fingers crossed everything goes well.” “Thanks, Lovely. Bye.” “Bye Lena.”
Patrick walks into his office smiling seeing his beautiful wife sitting behind his desk looking very sexy and all kinds of lustful thoughts run through his mind. Lovely waves at him as she finishes up her call with Lena. She also notices how dark her husband’s blue eyes have turned; he’s so aroused. She hears Patrick shut and lock his office door while at the same time licking his lips and stalking towards her. She was going to tell him about her conversation with Lena. But all those thoughts disappear replaced with a passionate desire to taste her husband.

Lena clicks back over to continue her conversation with Gerry. “Okay, I’m back Gerard.” Getting straight to the point, she says “I need to tell you something. Do you have time to talk?” “Yes, that’s why I called. I was wondering if I can stop by and discuss some thing
s with you.” “That will be okay Gerard. Are you on your way now?” “Yes. Patrick has given me the rest of the afternoon off. If you don’t mind, I can be there in an hour.” “Okay, I will see you then.”
Tura walks into the room at the end of the conversation and says “I heard some of your conversation. Who is coming over Lena?” “Gerard. He wants to talk to me, and since I need to talk to him about Fahim, we can take care of two birds with one stone.” “Well, I guess we will find out if he’s the same guy or not, huh?” Tura states with sadness. “I guess we will. Do you want him to know you’re here Tura?” “I don’t know. When he gets here, I will show myself after I hear what he has to say. We need to put my car in your garage. He knows what it looks like.” “Okay, Tura. I’m good with however you want to handle it. I’ll support you the way you want to play this out.” “Okay, my friend. You all talk and then I will come out afterward.” “All righty then” is all Lena says.
CHAPTER 17
As she waits for Gerard to arrive, Lena thinks about Fahim and how she’s left several messages since their earlier discussion, and he hasn’t returned her calls. She wonders once things are squared away with Gerard will she have to fly out to New York to talk to him face to face. Looking at the clock on her kitchen wall, she decides to call Robin to see if she’s heard from her brother in law.
