All That I Dread

by Linda J White

Peter’s scars had given Nate hope, and Nate’s scars had given me hope. And not just any hope, but a hope that I thought might overcome all the sorrows and pain and failures and shame of this life. Hope that is an anchor, an anchor that is love.

Scars that give hope. Welcome to my world.

  -THE END-

  Acknowledgments

For an author, writing a book is a labor of love. But as in birthing a child, it’s not done alone.

I’m so grateful to the members of Dogs East, a volunteer K-9 search and rescue group in my area. They let me observe their training exercises, answered my questions, and later, several read my manuscript to correct any misconceptions I had. (Any mistakes that remain are mine.) Thank you especially to Sharon Johnson and Jessica Burnside for their particular help.

Until I connected with Dogs East, I had no idea what a huge time commitment SAR involves, or how much training these volunteers undergo, or how much equipment they need to buy. Called out at all hours of the night and day in all kinds of weather, their contributions to the community are remarkable but go mostly unnoticed, except by the families they help.

Dru Wells, retired FBI agent, provided assistance with the Bureau aspects of the book, and as usual, caught some other errors as well. Thank you, Dru, for so generously sharing your knowledge and wisdom.

My daughter, Becky Chappell, did a great job with the initial edit of the manuscript. Then she began helping me with my website, memes, and social media, all while juggling her growing family. Finally she undertook the job of actually publishing the book. Her sharp eye, design sense, and cheerful attitude helped me immensely. I’m so grateful for you, Becky!

I appreciate Barbara Scott’s work on the final edit for Dread. Her comments and corrections made it a better book, and her encouragement buoyed my spirits. As always, my agent, Janet Grant, of Books & Such Literary Management, gave me wise advice along the way. And thank you to fellow author Erin Unger, who challenged me to write in first person. I love it!

After my husband died in 2017, I wondered if my writing days were over. I prayed about that a lot. As words began to flow, I received my answer, and I praise God for the opportunity to write for Him again.

Finally, thank you readers, for joining me on this journey.

  Soli Deo gloria
