My eyes flashed to Hannah and Theo over in the corner of the room. We smiled at each other, mouthing I love you from across the rather large room. “Seems your guy, over here, made it just in time.” I glanced over at Gray as a new round of tears began to fall.
My attention instantly flew to a loud sound. I could hear a heartbeat echoing through the room, but it was too fast to be my own. I looked at the doctor with confusion written all over my face.
“What is that sound?” I was looking between Gray and the doctor for someone to answer me. Gray had a huge smile plastered across his face about a mile wide.
“Can I tell her?” Gray glanced over at the doctor, and my heart began to race.
“Someone please tell me what’s going on.” His carefree attitude was scaring the shit out of me.
With a nod from the doctor, Gray looked right into my sunken eyes, “Baby, you’re pregnant.” His smile wavered when I didn’t react. A rush of panic washed over me.
“Did...di…did he rape me?” I didn’t want to know the answer. I buried my shameful face into the flimsy hospital pillow underneath my head.
“Oh Baby, no. No, he didn’t rape you. It’s ours.” His hands were already snaking around my waist, pulling me into his lap as he took my place on the bed. “She’s ours, Baby. She is ours.”
My eyes shot to his, “It’s a girl?” We’re having a girl?” I wrapped my arms tightly around his neck, tears falling faster than before. “Wait, is she okay?” My hands flew to my aching belly.
“Yes Baby, she’s perfect.” Our hands lay interwoven over my swollen abdomen. The doctor finished checking the baby, and me then left Gray and I alone. Gray went through the explanation of how he found me. When he had shown up I was unconscious and Raylon was nowhere to be found. The cops had been called, along with the paramedics. They searched for Raylon throughout the night, but couldn’t find a single trace as to where he could have gone. I know I should have been worried, but my only thoughts were of Gray and our unborn child.
I was a firm believer in the whole ‘everything happens for a reason’ saying, and I knew Raylon would get what he deserved, eventually. Until then, I had what I needed and nothing was going to take that away from me.
This is how my life should be!
