“Physically, the guy is harmless. It’s what he can do otherwise that’s really tough, you know, Simon. Look, I don’t have shit so what can he do to me? Trash my reputation, I don’t think so. I want to find my sugar daddy and hopefully I can hold onto one at some point in my life, but for now…I just do what I do.”
I held the paper in my hand and would process that later, but for now, I couldn’t help look at Gloria as the subject of a study. I’ll admit, I’d started our relationship the right way but I had genuinely thought I could help her. My love of sex and liberated women had gotten in the way. I still loved those things, but I understood how to differentiate a bit better. “You know, I really wanted to help you with your problems, Gloria. Did you really want to change?”
She looked at me and smiled softly, leaving a lingering silence in the air before she whispered, “It really doesn’t matter now, does it? No problems and hopefully no hard feelings.”
“Well, I would appreciate it if you stopped blogging and Tweeting about me. That’s causing me quite a bit of hassles,” I said. It didn’t hurt to ask.
“I’ll keep that in mind, sometimes I can’t help myself. I find myself fantasizing about your body and your well endowed cock whenever I’m with someone else. You just have that impact on a girl, I suppose.”
“Thanks, I think,” I said. “Well, I’d better get going, Gloria. And thanks for this. I appreciate it.”
“What are you going to do with it?” she asked.
“I have no idea; it’s a lot to process.” I put the paper into my pocket and turned around and left, not answering the guy working at the shop who asked if he could help me find anything.
Only when I got back to my office did I open it up again to process it all. There, in Bixby’s handwriting, according to Gloria, I saw a list with a title on top that read ‘Rivals List.’ The companies on the list were what really captured my attention. It was broken down into two columns. One said ‘Destroy’ and the other said ‘Acquire.’
The destroy column had: Dr. Sessions, Therapist; Sessions Supplement Corporation, Sessions Enterprises, and a few other businesses that I wasn’t familiar with. The acquire column had Winning Wings Corporation, Tonkin Gyms, Tannenbaum Private Equity, Tina Dahrman Agency, and a handful of business ventures that were all intermingled to Lina and people she knew in some way.
What a jerk I’d been! I slammed my fist down on my desk and clenched my jaw. I couldn’t believe how Bixby had reeled me in, making me believe for a half a second that the guy was human. He was the manipulative ass that I’d portrayed him as all this time. I’d given him the benefit of the doubt for Lina’s sake, but it had to stop. Whether Lina believed me or not, I had to expose him for the fraud that he was and alert everyone on that list that he had them targeted.
I picked up my phone. “Pamela, hey, I need you to hold all my calls for a few hours, okay. An emergency has come up.”
“Sure, do you need any help?” she asked.
“No, maybe a cup of coffee, that’s about it.”
She came in a minute later with a cup of coffee and must have sensed my mood because she didn’t say anything, just set it down gently and left my office, shutting the door behind her without looking back.
I wasn’t sure what was right or wrong, but I knew that something was suspicious and it all started with Ralph Bixby.
