  Foreword

There is always a time when I’m lost for words. It’s usually when I’m trying to convey what writing this story has meant to me. I guess, it means that enough people have enjoyed the characters to warrant this little holiday novella. I had fun revisiting Alfie, Lily, Jack, Rick, and some of the other characters that asserted themselves enough to have their personalities felt during the books. Leaving these fictional rock stars who have become friends for many who followed the series is a hard decision, but one that’s necessary.

In 2016 I want to bring fresh material and new book boyfriends as I feel it’s now time to introduce those waiting in the wings. Much the same as in real life, when new up and coming artists take over the music scene. It doesn’t mean we’re disloyal fans it just means we move on. I just want to thank all of my dedicated readers who have followed my progress and supported this little independent author. So… Thank you to all who are reading this. Without you, I wouldn’t be writing. If you read and enjoy my work please consider leaving a review. Reviews are so important and authors rely on word of mouth and social media for getting our work out there.

  Dedication

This book is dedicated to two people. Firstly, to Debra Hiltz. Debbie is part of my avid promo team. Like most of the ladies, she turns up for ‘work’ every day like it’s her living. That’s how serious she is about making sure others meet the characters she has read and enjoyed. I see posts all over social media as Debbie shares teasers, likes posts and comments about my work. I really appreciate everything you do Debbie, and I’m forever grateful for the sharing you do voluntarily on my behalf for the books you love.

The second person I’m dedicating this book to is Tracie Podger. Tracie is another independent author and has become an invaluable friend to me over the past six months. Her generosity has been limitless to the point where I’m almost a permanent feature at her home at the time of writing this. During the writing of this novella, we laughed until we cried at some of the antics of Jack, Rick and the others, and it was a very unique experience to be able to share my work as it was fresh on the screen with someone who totally got what I was doing. When this novella was complete, she was the first there with feedback, and I was relieved that she liked it. Thank you, Tracie. I’m looking forward to many more sessions like the ones we’ve shared so far.

I also need to mention the rest of KL’s promo ladies because without all of you I doubt anyone would be reading this book. Your collective efforts of sharing my work is invaluable to someone who has no publishing house behind them. You are all amazing. Thank you. x Emma Moorhead, Jacqueline Dennison, Ashley Heather, Sarah Lintott, Isa Jones, Samantha Harrington, Janet Boyd, Angela Wallace Kawauchi, Isabel Adams, Leigh Black, Donna Tripi Salzano, Ann Meemken, Tammy Ann Dove, Jennifer Pierson and Ellie Aspill for your tireless efforts to promote my work. #EIYteam

  Chapter 1 Furtive

“Mya, are you there? Can you hear me? Fuck this phone, I hate the damned thing. Don’t hang up yet I’m moving to find a better signal. I don’t have long. Can you meet me later today? I’m staying at The Dorchester.”

I glanced toward the tall oak door leading to the room I was standing in, watching for any sign of movement. My heart pounded in my chest at the prospect of Lily catching me speaking to another woman on the phone. Once I was confident she was still focused on getting ready in the bathroom, I continued.

“Lily will be leaving any minute now to go out for a couple of hours. We don’t have much time. Say you’ll come over, Mya, please? I swear she won’t be back for the next two to three hours at least. Her interview at Radio 1 isn’t until noon. Come on, honey, I desperately need to see you. I can’t do all this on the phone. She’ll be out in a minute, come over,” I whispered harshly, my tone was hushed as my hand cupped the mouthpiece on my cell.

I glanced anxiously at the door. It was a risk calling Mya, but so far we’d managed to avoid being caught. We could only steal a short amount of time together. As luck would have it, an unexpected window opened when Lily’s PA added an extra interview at a popular radio station in her hometown.

I knew I was going to have to let Henry, my security guy, in on the deal as it may be necessary to have him delay Lily’s arrival home. If she arrived home before Mya departed, all bets would have been off, and Lily would never trust me again.

“Alfie, I really don’t think I can get away right now. Jack’s working in his den. I can’t just get up and go out without questions being asked. We’re not all huge rock stars like you and Lily. We have responsibilities here and if I just up and left when I’ve already told Jack I had no plans today he’d be suspicious. You would be too if it were Lily doing this.” Mya’s voice was a stage whisper, the agitation and a hint of annoyance in her tone apparent.

Obviously, I sympathized with how worried she felt, but I had no choice. She had to come to me. There was no other way I could find time to see her or meet her anywhere else. For one thing, I was the lead singer in a world-renowned rock band—I’d be recognized if I went out. I’d already had enough media attention with regard to my relationship with Lily to last several lifetimes.

“You can tell Jack that Rick wants to see you. That wouldn’t be a lie; he always wants time with you. You could stop off and see Rick before you head home. Then he’d tell Jack he saw you. He’s arriving here about 3:00
pm, I think.”

Rick was Mya’s famous uncle and front man for the band, Cobham Street. They were more famous than my band, Crakt Soundzz or Lily’s, XrAid, but we were all globally known in our own right.

“Alfie, I’m not lying to Jack because you snap your fingers. If Jack ever found out I went behind his back to visit a man, especially you, he’d slaughter you. He might even murder me.”

I snickered at the very thought of Jack knowing his woman had snuck away and spent time with me without his knowledge. Imagining what his reaction would be made me excited. I knew he’d be jealous, not to mention livid. He’d have a coronary if he thought for a moment there was anything untoward between Mya and me. However, I was smart enough to know that if he lived to tell the tale, I was the one who’d need an autopsy by the time he was done with me.

Jack was overly protective of his woman. Just like I was with mine. But the idea of giving him a taste of his own medicine and fucking with his mind about Mya had a certain delicious appeal. It would be payback for all the times he flaunted his relationship with his best friend and my woman Lily, in my face.

“Fuck, what is it with you women and Jack Cunningham?” I hissed, still with a hushed tone.

“Listen, Mya. We have to do this now. We’re wasting time arguing about it when you know you’ll end up here anyway. Rick will be here at 3:00 pm, and you need to be gone by 2:45 pm to safely miss Lily coming back. If Jack’s parents live too far out of the way to call on for this, ask Roslyn or Charlie for help. I know for a fact they’d jump at the chance to help with the little ones for the afternoon.”

Mya huffed into the phone in defeat, and as soon as she did that, my body sagged with relief. I knew her well enough to know when she was giving in after being worn down by something. I’d heard that kind of exhale often enough from Lily. I was stoked that she was coming to the suite.

Lily would have a break down if she knew. Both Jack and she would close ranks, and Mya and I would be put under house arrest to reveal our secret. We definitely weren’t ready to lay everything on the table for a few more hours at least. We had every intention of coming clean, eventually, but for now our plans were still only a great idea at best.

Lily strolled leisurely from the bathroom fastening a diamond teardrop earring in her left lobe. She stood in front of the large dressing table mirror, and I sidled up behind her. Sweeping her long dark hair to the side I playfully bit her slender neck. The small erogenous zone right between her neck and shoulder was her sweet spot. Goose bumps surfaced when I took that piece of her flesh into my mouth, and she rewarded me with a soft sigh. Lily pretended to be put off by me when I knew she enjoyed every touch we shared.

“Will you stop, Alfie, I’m late as it is.”

She giggled flirtatiously but made no attempt to squirm away from me. Lily’s eyes closed and a sexy smile stretched her lips, lifting the corners of her mouth. Watching her reflection in the mirror, I groaned at the thoughts her reaction set loose in my mind. The sudden urge I had to strip her bare and press her against the wall was almost overwhelming. I whispered my desire to do that into the shell of her ear and a soft erotic moan escaped from her throat.

My dick twitched at her seductive response. I licked a wet trail up her neck placing my mouth back at her ear, both hands on her hips. One hand wandered involuntarily to the hem of her shirt. It slipped inside drawn in by the heat of her body radiating through it. My fingertips stroked over her satin soft skin. She shivered when I reached the contour of her ribs, my fingers delving under the lace of her bra to cup her firm, fleshy breast. Lily moaned again, louder that time.

  “Oh. Mm.”

I ran my nose over her ear. My breath ghosted over her skin. She shivered in anticipation, and her heartbeat began to pound against my hand. I rolled my hips pushing my hard dick into the center of her ass and pressed hard so that she could feel what she did to me. Pulling the cup of her bra to give me better access to her breast, I began rolling her nipple between my thumb and forefinger. My voice was no more than the pained whisper of a desperate man when I spoke.

“Stay. Let me make you feel good. Just say the words, honey. I’ll drop to my knees right here or push you up against the wall. You know I can make you feel special; make you forget everything. We don’t spend nearly enough time in bed these days, right? A man has… needs you know.”

I gave her my best lopsided smile, the one she could never resist. She reached around behind her. When she stroked her soft, delicate hand over the rough material at the front of my jeans, I thought I’d won her over. Finding my erection, her eyes widened as she looked at me standing behind her in the mirror. She ran her index finger over my now raging hard-on. She’d applied just enough pressure to make me desperate for more.

“If you do that again I’ll come in my jeans.”

Turning to face me, she patted my chest with the palm of her hand and tried to pull back.

“Later, lover boy. I have a living to earn. Make sure you hold that thought, though. When I get back, the ‘on your knees’ thing, ‘against the wall’, and that bulge…whatever you want to tease me with, I’m yours. Everything is yours.”

Lily pointed to the wall, the floor, and patted my hard-on through my jeans again giving me a quick squeeze and a small, wistful smile. Lust-filled thoughts had already formed in her mind. I could see the twinkle she had in those gorgeous blue eyes and the pink tinge of lust that had crept up to tint her cheeks.

“I’m definitely going to rush back, Alfie. I miss you already.”

Lily leaned into me, and I saw her hesitate. Her breath fanned across my dry lips while we stared silently at each other in a ‘freeze frame’ connection. For a second, I thought she was going to throw the interview aside and take me up on my offer. A second later she pressed her closed mouth to mine.

There was no way she was leaving me hanging with a peck on the lips after that little exit speech. As soon as she applied the soft pressure of her lips to mine, I had to taste more of her. I thrust my tongue through her closed lips. When our tongues found each other, she sighed and relaxed against me, her tongue danced around mine until a moan vibrated between her mouth and mine. My dick stirred more with every inch of her smooth skin I touched, aching painfully with the need to penetrate something. I was getting lost in her when she suddenly nipped at my tongue and broke the kiss.

Pressing her hands firmly against my pecs, Lily pushed herself away from me. Her hair swished over her shoulder as she spun swiftly on the marble tiled floor and made space between us. She walked over to the nightstand, picked up her small black Gucci purse that she coveted and placed it under her arm. Glancing back, she turned and tilted her head to the side, giving me a molten stare.

  “Miss me,” she cooed breathlessly.

I did my best to collect myself as I stood watching her sashay away from me, those fuck-me heels tapping on the floor. Before she’d even made it to the door, I managed to slip my hand inside my jeans to readjust the discomfort of my hard and unhappy dick. She always had that effect on me. Lily made my head spin, even with just a kiss.

As the door closed quietly behind her, the room fell silent. The huge empty void left in her wake made my heart feel heavy. I let out a huge sigh and realized I’d been holding my breath. I dropped back into a leather armchair that seemed strategically placed to catch a desperate man watching someone as appealing as Lily walk away from him. Since the day I’d met her, I’d been in free fall. No one had ever affected me the way my beautiful girl had. My heart ached a little at deceiving her, but it couldn’t be helped. I needed Mya for the time being.

It was a few minutes before I realized I was still staring at the door, and Lily was long gone. My cell buzzed in my front pocket making me jump. I straightened my leg to reach and fish in my tight pocket for it. I saw Mike’s ID flashing on the screen, so I swiped to answer the call.

  Chapter 2 Communication

Mike was the codename I gave Mya in my phone. What can I say? I wrote
song lyrics that made hit albums. I won Grammy’s for my talent yet I had no imagination when it came to duping my woman and her best friend, so Mike was the best name I could think of.

I had Jack’s number because he was Lily’s best friend. Having his number was also plausible because we knew each other before Lily and I got together. I had no real reason to have Mya’s and I never had cause to ring Jack much. However, after a clandestine conversation when I’d turned up at her place two weeks ago, we began to hatch a plan for a trip away together while Jack was out of earshot in the kitchen. At first, I’d thought she might reject the idea, but I was delighted when she’d agreed it was just what we needed.

It was hard for us to act normally from that point on. Calling her had been our only form of communication. I didn’t dare text her in case Jack saw them. Phone calls were risky enough and twice we nearly got caught. Both times I had to cover Mya. Lily had come up behind me and heard a female voice talking through my cell. I didn’t outright lie to her. I told her it was another musician asking me for some details about an event we were playing. As Mya was a music teacher, I’d figured it was close to the truth damn it.

On another occasion, Mya had called me from her bathroom. Jack walked in on her and asked who she was talking to. Mya was completely honest and said it was me. So, when he took the phone and asked me what I wanted, I told him that Mya had called to speak to Lily and her call had diverted to my phone. My heart was roasted trying to keep up the pretence around what we were doing.

Even glancing at my Omega wristwatch made me feel guilty. Lily gave it to me for my birthday. Jack had one of the same. He’d had his for several years before she’d bought me mine. It made me wonder if it was to comfort her because she was missing him, but I never made a big deal about it.

Mya and I knew what we were getting when we made our respective decisions about loving Lily and Jack. They had been friends for so long, that it was hard to get a handle on their weird but beautiful relationship. I was jealous as fuck when I’d found out about him. The first time I saw him I knew I’d have problems shaking the guy from Lily’s heart. Plus, their borderline flirty behavior was always difficult. They kept me, and everyone else, wondering if there was more to them than they were disclosing.
