The Silencer: A Bad Boy MMA Romance

Liam, Sarabelle, and Christian were all there so we could watch the final chapter unfold together. My sister was emotional, as she always is, and broke down crying when his face was shown on the screen. She got so bad at one point that Liam had to get up and turn off the television. The four of us then enjoyed a nice breakfast together before Sarabelle and Christian headed home.
Even though it was nice that we no longer had to worry about Kade, there was still this nagging feeling that something wasn’t right. That man had so much influence on so many people, it wouldn’t come as a shock to us if he put a bounty out on us. I know that sounds ridiculously old wild west but I have no idea what else to call it. I could see him going to great lengths to make sure he paid us back for putting him away.
From the day we started gathering the information to give to the police detectives, the four of us make an agreement that if and when Kade went to prison, we were going to go all out in order to celebrate. I figured it was just something being said in the moment but Liam reminded everyone before my sister and her boyfriend left the house.
“Don’t forget, we have to go out and tear the town up tonight,” he said. “Everyone be here at 7:00 and we’ll have my driver bring the limo.”
“Where are we going to go?” I questioned.
“Where aren’t we going to go?” he replied. “Just make sure you get all dolled up for me.”
That sounded good to me. I gave him a kiss before he left to head to the office. He had so much work to catch up on because he was avoiding the office for the longest time. We’d had reporters camped outside the house all during the trial and through the sentencing phase. Liam said it was a chore just to take the trash out. Going to the office had been his way to escape it until the reporters started showing up there too.
I figured it was always going to be like that until they got a statement from someone but I was wrong. As soon as Kade’s prison sentence was handed down to the judge, our lawyer told the media that there would be no comment and, just like that, the media packed up and left. It was a welcome relief, although I did kind of like having Liam at home with me all the time.
I had no clue where we were going to be going that evening but I was excited to get out of the house. I had already decided that I was going to get made up as beautiful as I could for my man.
I wasn’t going to wear any of my regular club clothes or anything else I would usually put on when I went out. I was going to show Liam that I can class it up with the best of them, even if I am a bad girl.
As I was trying to decide what I was going to wear for our celebration that night, I heard a sound coming from the living room. I figured Liam had forgotten something when he left for work. He was always leaving something behind. It didn’t matter if it was his wallet, files or whatever, he was always forgetting something. Just as I was about to see what it was, two big thugs broke through my bedroom door.
Immediately, I started screaming at the top of my lungs, hoping Liam would need to come back and would hear me. I tried to run through my bathroom, which was attached to another bedroom to get away but I was quickly caught. My legs were shaking way too much for me to be able to sprint.
I was doing anything I could to escape. I was scratching and biting and any bit of skin I could find. It wasn’t working as they continued to drag me out of the bedroom and towards the front of the house.
They got me to the living room and kitchen when I was able to wiggle away. I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. I knew Kade was going to find some way to get back at me. I was so scared that his crazy ass would be able to make something like that happen. Now there I was, being attacked and wasn’t sure what was going to happen.
I had to let Liam know what was going on, but how was I supposed to do that? These guys weren’t going to let me make a phone call or pen a note to my boyfriend. Right before they grabbed me again, I reached out and was able to press the memo button on the answering machine.
I always made fun of Liam for still having a regular telephone and an old answering machine. I used to say that he was the last person in the state of New York who had one. He always told me that you never know when an old-fashioned land line phone would come in handy. I’d always think to myself that it would never come in handy but my mind was being changed quickly. Pressing the memo button allowed me to record what was happening without my attackers knowing what I had down.
“Come here you fucking bitch,” would be the first thing he heard. I’m not really sure what else the assholes said after that as I never stopped struggling. I’ve always loved watching crime shows on television and more than once, I’ve heard them say that the minute you stop fighting is when they know they have you and will do whatever they want. Kidnappers are far more likely to let a person who's hard to control go because they’re more work than they’re worth.
No matter how much I fought back, I wasn’t going to win. They eventually drug me outside and into the back of a waiting van. It was only after I was inside that I realized Kade wasn’t behind the attack after all. Sitting there on the bench seat grinning down at me was Camilla, the ex-girlfriend of Liam’s that made her appearance at the bondage club.
“You don’t learn do you? You couldn’t just leave well enough alone and let Liam be with me. Don’t you know that I’m his soul mate? Don’t you know that he and I are destined to be together? Just because we are apart doesn’t mean we were going to stay that way,” she said, bringing her face to within an inch of mine.
“You’re fucking crazy! Do you know that?” was my reply. “I don’t tell Liam what to do. If he wanted to be with you, he would have been with you. I don’t control him.”
“You don’t control him? Give me a fucking break. Do you think I haven’t been watching what’s been going on? I’ve been working on him for a long time. It was just a matter of time before I had him back in my arms. I was going to make my move that night I caught him in the room with you. That was supposed to be when he and I started again. You ruined it. You ruined it and now you have to pay the consequences.”
Again, she brought her face within inches of mine. She was talking so close that I could feel her spit hitting me in the nose. Her breath was wretched and I wanted nothing more than for her to shut up and tell me what she wanted.
“Fuck you, you stupid bitch,” I screamed defiantly. “Liam obviously doesn’t want anything to do with you. He obviously chose me so why don’t you accept it and find some other man to manipulate? Just let me go so I can get back to my life and you can go fuck yourself.”
The next thing I knew, Camilla hit me with a backhand so hard that it made my ears ring. I lost my balance and hit the wall of the van hard. Everything started to go dark as I slowly slid to the floor. I’d be unconscious for the ride that was ahead of me.
CHAPTER 16
Liam
My day had been much busier than I expected it to be. I already knew I’d have a lot of work to do but I didn’t anticipate how many times I was going to have to pick up the phone. It seemed like I had everybody and their mother’s calling me after seeing the news that morning. My actual mother had my phone ringing the minute I walked into the office. She had been so worried about me and was wanting to make sure I was okay.
On top of my mother calling to check on me, I had about a dozen friends and family members calling as well as some pretty well-respected names in the national press. My attorney had told local reporters that we would not be making any further comments on the matter but I had to admit, the thought of a national interview was intriguing. I wasn’t out to get famous or anything but the opportunity to be on television for hundreds of people to see is a dream so many people have. It’s the whole fifteen minutes of fame thing.
I didn’t get nearly as much work done as I wanted to. Every time I got down into it, the phone would start ringing or my secretary to would buzz the intercom. Eventually, I had to route all my calls to an off-site answering service.
The service was staf
fed by call center professionals in Missouri who would answer my calls, tell whoever was calling that I wasn’t available and take down a message for me. The best part is that whoever took the message would transcribe it into an e-mail so I could read them and reply to the ones that were most urgent.
Since I had been so busy, I wasn’t able to call Lexi like I usually did throughout the day. I looked at the clock at one point and realized that it was nearly 5:00 pm and I still had a nice little stack of work to get done.
There was no way I was going to be able to make out of there, get home and be ready to leave by 7:00 like I originally planned. I called Lexi to let her know but her phone just rang and rang. I didn’t figure I’d be able to reach her. She was probably busy getting ready so I hung up, grabbed my cell phone and sent her a text.
Running a little late. Let’s plan on going out at 9:00 instead of 7:00. See you soon. Love you beautiful.
After sending the message, I called Sarabelle to let her know that we were going to head out a little later than scheduled. She seemed relieved as she was getting a late start on getting ready as well. She told me that we would have probably been waiting on her anyway so the new time worked out perfectly for her.
I finished up all the work I had left and looked at the clock one more time before leaving the office for the day. It was already 7:10. It was going to take me at least twenty minutes to get so the best case scenario would leave me ninety-minutes to shower, shave and get dressed to get out.
Walking out to the car, I fished my cell phone out of my pocket again to let Lexi know I was on my way. Once again, the phone rang several times before her voice mail picked up. I couldn’t help but think that it was odd that she still wasn’t picking up my calls but I wrote it off to being paranoid, especially after everything that had happened leading up to that day.
Since I couldn’t reach Lexi on the phone, I called her sister to let her know I was leaving work.
“Hey Sarabelle, it’s Liam. I’m leaving work now. Everybody still set to go for 9:00?”
“Yep, we’re planning on leaving here about 8:30.”
“Okay good. I’ll try to be ready by then if at all possible. By the way, have you heard from your sister at all this afternoon?”
“No, I haven’t. I tried to call her a few hours ago but she didn’t answer her phone. Is everything okay?”
“Oh yeah, I’m sure everything is fine. I’ve just been trying to reach her as well and haven’t been able to get her on the line.”
“Well, you know how she is, especially when she’s getting ready to go out.”
“That’s exactly what I was thinking. I’ll be at my house in a few minutes. I’ll be sure to give her hell for not taking your call,” I said with a laugh. “We’ll see you guys in a bit.”
I hung up the phone and drove a little faster than I should have. I wanted to get home as soon as possible so I could calm the uneasy feelings I was having. It seemed like it was taking forever even though I knew I was making record time.
When I finally pulled into the driveway, I was relieved to see that things looked normal and everything was nice and quiet. Well, quiet except for the Houston’s dog who never shut up. It didn’t matter what time of day it was, that little fucker would yap and yap all the time.
Finally, I was able to let out a deep sigh of relief. What had happened to me? Why would I let myself get so worked up over a thought in my head? I put the car and made my way to the front door. All of the relief I had felt moments before as I saw that the door appeared to have been kicked in.
I grabbed my cell phone and cautiously opened the door. If whoever kicked the door in was still inside the house, I didn’t want them to know I was approaching. Desperate to know she was okay, I put my phone on silent and dialed Lexi’s phone again. My heart sank when I heard her phone ringing inside the house.
Walking into the house, it was clear that there had been a struggle. There was broken glass from the breakfast dishes all over the floor, the living room television was lying on its side and I had paperwork thrown everywhere. Whoever had entered the house didn’t get what they wanted without a fight of some sort. My only hope was that Lexi had survived and was somewhere in the house.
“Holy shit,” I thought to myself. I needed to see if she was in the house. For all I knew, she could have been lying on the floor bleeding, cold and all alone. I ran into the bedroom, noticing that door had been kicked in as well. I wondered why someone would do that since the door doesn’t even lock.
Lexi wasn’t in the room but you could tell she had been there recently. On the bed were several different outfits that she had strewn across the bed. She’d gotten out some of the nicer clothes she had, apparently wanting to look good for me that evening.
“Lexi! Are you here?” I yelled as I went into the bathroom. She wasn’t there either. Nor was she in any other room of the house. She was gone and I felt like I was about to be sick. Where was she? That was the question. Had whoever been in the house taken her? Had someone hurt her? Was she able to call for help and was now in the hospital? There were so many thoughts running through my mind that I didn’t even know how to process them all.
I grabbed my phone and called the police to report a break-in and possible abduction. At first, they didn’t seem to be taking me seriously, saying the would send someone out when they had time. It wasn’t until I clarified who I was and what our connection was to the Kade Nichols case that they got their asses in gear. It still took someone nearly a half-hour to get to my house but who knows how long it would have been otherwise.
While waiting for the police to arrive, I called Lexi again to fill her in on what was happening. Her and Christian were getting ready to leave their house to come to mine but I told them to hold off a little bit. I was sure the officers were going to be all over the place and I didn’t want extra people there getting in the way. I understood why she wanted to be there but, unfortunately, she didn’t have any information that was going to aid in the investigation so sitting back and waiting was going to be the best thing she could do. I had to promise to call her back as soon as I knew anything to convince her to stay at home.
I was a little dismayed with the way the police officers handled everything when they got to my home. An overweight cop with gray hair and the bushiest mustache I’d ever seen walked in and took a lap around the house before getting his little notepad out of his belt and starting in on me with questions. I was being interrogated in my living room while my girl was out there somewhere in need of help. Were these officers so short-sighted that they couldn’t see that?
“We always have to start with those closest to the missing person and work our way out from there,” was all the officer could tell me. I felt like all we were doing was wasting time. I’d been at work all day and there were plenty of people of people who could back me up on that. Hell, I'd fielded at least 25 calls from various people that day. Why not look into me later and focus on looking for Lexi in the meantime?
It took everything I had not to lose my patience. I was seething inside but was trying not to let it show. I knew what the cops were attempting to do. They were suspicious of me and were trying to break me down. If I would have allowed myself to get heated and lost control, that would have only made them focus on me even more. When the officers asked if Lexi had any enemies or if I knew of anyone who might want to harm her, the only person I could think of was Kade. That didn’t help matters at all.
“So you’re telling me that the only enemy your girlfriend has is Kade Nichols. He’s the only person you can think of who might wish to do her harm?” the officer sarcastically asked.
“Yes, sir,” I replied. “She kind of keeps to herself. She doesn’t have a lot of friends but she doesn’t really have any enemies either.”
“You are aware that Kade Nichols was sent to prison today, correct?”
“Yes, I am aware.”
“Then how do you suppose he was able to get to Miss Williams?” he ask
ed, this time his tone was almost mocking me. As much as I had tried to control myself, I couldn’t do it any longer.
“I didn’t say that he did,” I snapped at the officer. “I simply answered your ridiculous fucking line of questions. You asked if ANYONE wanted to do her harm and I said that he’s the only one I can think of. Never did I say that he broke out of the fucking prison to come and abduct her. Jesus, what is wrong with you people? Something has happened to my girlfriend and you guys want to sit here with your hands on your dicks. Can we please figure out where she is?”
The officer made eye contact with one of the other investigators, giving him a knowing look. The look said see, there’s something to this guy. I bet he knows right where she is without ever having to say a word. The officer got up and looked around the house some more.
