Alena buried her face in his shoulder and shook with laughter. “I could grow to like you. Really. I could.” She breathed in the rich scent of his sated skin, her lips teasing kisses along his clavicle. Already, new flickers of need tightened her flesh. Would she ever get enough of Vadim Caethes? She doubted it. Her thigh slid between his, and his cock stirred.
“Again?” The word brushed against her ear, and she shivered.
She looked up at him, tracing the scar running over his temple. “We won’t always have this time, Vadim. The schedule of the empress is hectic, and with the defeat of the Talar, I just added to it. Even with you as a part of my personal guard, time will be tight.”
“Alena…” Vadim rolled her and pressed her into the deep mattress. He ground against her, and a soft moan escaped. “There are secluded offices, storerooms, private little corners. I’m sure I”—his eyes darkened—“or we, can ensure that the empress is kept … happy.”
Her heart jumped. “We?” Vadim and Sacha waylaying her in some stretch of deserted corridor? Hands and mouths finding her in the darkness… “Do you promise?”
Vadim laughed, something low and wicked. “Yes.” His eyes narrowed. “But for now, I have you.” He ran his hands along her arms, stretching them out to the bedposts.
“It’s time for a little—or a lot—of payback.”
Alena tested the pull of the first scarf and then flopped back into the plump pillows.
She smirked, lifting her head to watch him, as with quick expertise, he knotted the scarves. His fingers traced a slow pattern down her forearm, and her breath caught.
Vadim brushed his body over hers, his skin hot, and fire flickered through her veins.
She’d known him only for a matter of days, but her future stretched out with his man …
and it had her heart tight. She grinned at him. “Do with me what you will, Flight-
Captain.”
Vadim returned her grin, his silver eyes gleaming with desire and love. “Oh, don’t worry, Majesty. I plan to.”
His mouth trailed her collarbone, the trace of his tongue melting liquid heat under her skin. She arched, twisting against her bonds, and felt his wicked smile against her skin. He was hers, all hers…
Yes, being the empress had its perks, after all.
