Just then they heard the sound of a car outside.
‘He’s here.’ She was so excited.
It took another two minutes before the door opened. He stood still at the door, gazed at all the faces and then up at hers as she walked slowly down the steps.
‘What…’ He was lost for words.
She walked up to him and held out her hands and he took them. He looked at Myles who had convinced him to get dressed up for a fake function he’d made up. Myles laughed and rubbed his hands together like an evil master mind.
‘Eugene Gallagher, I’m saying yes to you. Yes to marrying you, yes to sharing my life with you. You’ve been my rock, you’ve been there for our daughter, you are my hero.’ She started to tear up and so did others in the group.
He squeezed her hand, the passion in his eyes so evident. Sahara made him feel like he could do anything. He did feel like her hero and he wanted to continue to feel that way.
‘I can’t guarantee you happily ever after, but I can guarantee you happily ever now.’ She grinned. ‘I’m here now, I’m here in this moment. I’m saying yes, will you take this step with me.’
‘Yes, yes I will!’ He kissed her with everything he had.
‘Now, now, let’s get the ceremony out of the way,’ said the priest and everyone giggled.
It was the perfect setting, the perfect place with the perfect people. Sahara had never wanted life to be complicated, and it was in the simple things she found joy.
They moved into the living-room where a space had been created for them and they were joined in front of their loved ones.
‘I love you Mrs Gallagher.’ He kissed his bride.
She pulled back, placed both hands against his cheeks and said, ‘I love you too handsome!’
