The Billionaire's Heart: Always Mine (A Billionaire Love Story Book 1)

Her heart beat loud as her voice while she paced to the basement to finish up the pile of work she’d engaged in that early morning. She startled at the slightest noise hopping it was Dan making the move she’d been expecting.
The banging cooing of the distant owls and the darkness that filled the entire house irritated Kate while she sought to get some sleep. Her elaborate bed walled the huge window that exposed the front portion of the multifaceted compound. She hadn’t seen any sign of Dan the entire time and she’d concluded that he’d probably left, as his work expected him to navigate from place to place.
Her room door screeched open while she lay steadily pretending to see what he’d come to do. She was never in the habit of living her room open, but that night she’d made an exception though she’d refused to admit to herself that she needed Dan to induce the passion she’d seen in his eyes the very first moment their paths crossed.
He paced smoothly in a banana design pajama with a cute pair of black leather footwear to grace his gentle appearance. He placed his butts carefully by her bed, not wanting to wake her up. She was uncertain why he was afraid when they had the entire house to themselves. She stayed mute, while her white thighs leaked from the white transparent nightgown that barely crossed her butts.
He strode her wealth of dark hair to one side, to admire a beauty he’d found intoxicating. She wriggled with a pretentious drowsiness to mask her act.
“Dan, what are you doing in my room?” She’d asked though her body signs were that of “I’m ready for you.”
He played a gentle caress over her thighs and without waste they pounced on each other with sizzling kisses and loud moans that covered the whole house.
Strange to her, he’d wake her up with baked pastries and to her surprise, he slipped off the fabulous rod that had been of his finger since he arrived and asked her to marry him. She was confused but her loud yes was what had changed the tides of her life.
“Kate dear,” her mother hugged her, she hadn’t seen her in a long time. Kate had begged Dan to come and see her parents and perhaps get their blessings. She hadn’t seen them in one year and she was beginning to get sick. She’d called them severally to tell them that life had given her a chance with a good man. Her mother had sobbed terribly over the phone, when she called to say she’d received the money Kate had mailed. She’d begged her to come though she’d remained adamant.
“Mother I’m sorry it took me quite a while to make this visit.” She fell into her mother’s arms while Dan and Jack shared a manly smile. He emitted the sort of smile that he rarely came, except in cases where he was grateful for an event. He was overjoyed to see his daughter in such a glamorous mood. He’d heard so much about young Taylor and he was happy to meet the man that had finally put a big smile on his daughter’s face.
“It’s over now honey,” Emily took her face into her hands in a blend of tears and smiles. She’d lost faith that she would come back to them. She just needed to see her sweet little face that gave their lives a huge meaning.
“Take absolute care of her my son.” Jack cut in to make sure his smiles were not misinterpreted by Dan for feebleness. “She is our little princess.” Jack jested in a casual but stern smile, sending the message he had intended for the young man to get.
“Yup, I get it.” Dan counteracted his stern gaze with a softer one while the two men shared a happy smile and incorporated into the women’s talk once more.
Emily found Dan graciously charming and her smiles spoke how happy she was of their union. She and Jack were more than grateful for the support she’d been to their family while Kate enrolled into the Manhattan Academy, to get a diploma in nursing.
They plunged happily to the dining table to devour Emily’s special menu. The silvery trays flung open and Dan eyes widened at what lay before him, fried potatoes and steak. He swallowed a large gulp of spittle followed by a large chunk of steak that narrowed into a broad smile at Kate who’d fixed a studious and smiling stare at her handsome husband.
Dinner at her home was refreshing like the first rain that sounded the trumpets of spring. She’d buried herself in Dan’s arms while he cradled her like a little baby, waiting the dawn like the weary desert travelers, to return to their serene kingdom back at Ponza.
Chapter 11
The blissful matrimony he’d sought to build could no longer withstand the storms that Paula had single handedly induced.
“Sir,” Judy stretched a letter while Adam buried his attention in a newspaper he’d been reading all morning.” The mail man dropped this; he said it’s for you.” She insisted dropping the letter on the table as instructed by his gaze. He’d not traveled for one whole week the house was a living hell. The sight of Paula made him want to throw up and he didn’t know for how long he could tolerate the quashed union.
“Governorship in the district of Milan now rests on Jackson Greene” The headlines of the news letter read. Surprise rode pass his face while he continued to explore other portions of the papers. He was shocked to see Jackson’s name on the papers. He was in his early forties and they’d attended business school together. He’d later moved into administration and he was one of the leading billionaires in the city.
They’d met during several conferences and Jackson had indicated his concerns of contesting for the governorship which Adam had shoved aside and encouraged him to focus on the various business plants he’d engaged built in the country. Stewart should be devastated; he thought seeing how much he’d boasted about his supposed allegiance with the presidency and how close he was to becoming the next governor.
Thoughts of Paula’s incessant outings and redundant late night calls spun in is head as a balloon and he searched for the best method to handle the situation without getting Jake in harm’s way. He leaned backwards letting out a deep breathe to calculate his thoughts properly. Divorce was far from being an option; he didn’t want his child to face the trauma of their actions. He’d decided to seek a marriage counselor when he sent a hand and grabbed the huge brown envelope that seemed to contain a package.
He adjusted himself while the soft cushion buried his butts, suspending his slender feet, giving him the comfort he very much loved especially when he didn’t have to report to work.
His eyes flapped at the impulse of whatever it was the envelope contained. He wasn’t expecting any parcel from anyone, but the forceful means by which he unsealed the package exposed his curiosity.
A letter came out followed by photographs of Paula and a man kissing in a restaurant. He tore the letter open to digest the content which mapped out bitter contours that ran past his forehead. He read the letter vividly and searched once more for perhaps one last photo that he hadn’t seen.
He looked round and his eyes fell on the picture which had dropped on the ground as his panicky hands open the package. He examined the picture of Paula and the same young man, kissing Jake on both sides of his cheek. At this he could no longer hold the pain.
Huge drops of tears ran through his masculine temples as he gave the letter one last look and tore it into shreds. His angry and thunderous comments pulled Paula to find out what the matter was. She’d never seen him in such a terrible mood. She was certain it had something to do with her mistress.
He’d never seen a more generous and noble man, yet Paula preferred frolicking around with a bunch of jerks that didn’t measure to her standards.
The letter was the last straw and he was going to walk out of the marriage without hesitation. Paula had made him assume the role of a father to a child she knew was not his. That was the height of her cruelty. He may have been mean to her but nobody deserved to be deceived with an issue of such magnitude.
“Where is Jake?” Adam asked Judy, masking his pain which she had long read; as a matter of fact she’d watched how unfairly Paula treated him and wished she had just one chance to steal the man away from her.
“His mother took him out for a walk, sir.” She replied in a polite bow.
/> “Is everything alright?” She asked with a concerned smile that reached his soul though it didn’t help ease the pain he was going through.
“Judy,” he stretched a vivid hand, giving her some money.
‘Sir, why are you giving me money?” She asked ignorantly “I received my pay just last week.” She added, seeing the pain in his eyes.
” Take this, I’m sure it will take you home and keep you till you can get a better job.” She collected the money from his grip in a reluctant stare that caught his, dazed, at what she may have done to deserve him relieve her from her duties
“Did I do anything wrong?” She asked apologetically, in rushing tears that made him feel sad for wanting to terminate her contract. His hands were tied and there was no need keeping her when he was no longer going be a part of the house.
“No, my dear,” he comforted her in a tender manner that rushed the more tears from her brown eyes “of course not, you are the best nanny Jake could ever have. There are just a few family crises we’re going through. I’m sorry if this is coming to you as a surprise.” He reassured her of his reasons and made promises of helping her out with future employment.
Paula stepped out of her white Ferrari with a fabulous expression that had lingered from the time she’d left the hotel she’d come from.
She played a carefree wave at Adam who had been waiting impatiently for her to arrive. He’d packed his stuff in his car and he’d paraded the entire yard in mixed feelings. He didn’t know whether he should be happy for finally having a good reason to redeem himself from a marriage he’d dreaded from its inception or to be strangle Paula for the level of deceit she’d initiated and making such a folly of him.
“Where the hell is Judy?” Paula yelled with a persistent frown, inquiring from Adam where the young woman had disappeared to.
“She’s gone.” Adam responded in disregard of whatever she was ranting about. “I sent her away”. He felt sorry for having subjected himself to the sort confusion he’d lacked words to describe, - in the name of holy matrimony. The woman actually had no regards for such delusions as marital vows.
“You did what, what about our son?” She demanded, shocked at the level of arrogance he was portraying over “God knows what” was eating him up, whatever madness had gotten into him, she was definitely going to find out. How dare he send Judy away without letting her know? She grumbled from within her guts.
“You mean your son?” He stroke back in anger clenching the photos tightly to his fist and hoping to see the look on her face when she sees them.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She asked in an angry tone that got Adam the more provoked.
“This is what it means.” flaunting the pictures to her face. She reached out for the pictures under her pair of jean shots and a green flowery shirt in a blasé stare.
“You are a despicable woman Paula, how dare you make me father another man’s child?” He demanded in a sorrowful look and perhaps hoping she had a good defense for her crime.
“Is this, whatis eating you up?” She sighed emitting a hysterical gaze as she panned through the pictures. “So now you know.” She added without any remorse whatsoever.
“You have never loved me; just admit that this will finally give you the divorce you have been desperately longing for.”
Her words were cold, cruel, harsh and unrepentant, but he was grateful it was over.
Three months alone had given Adam time to retrospect his life and discover what actually made him fulfilled . He missed Jake, but he had to come to terms with the fact that he and the boy had no blood bond.
Like any other official gathering he’d made sure to appear at his very best. Being a Bachelor once more, he’d received dashing comments and licentious invitations from the many spinsters who must have read about his divorce on the papers.
Jackson’s speech had spurred the aura of the sort of government he’d hope to build and all he needed was the people’s support.
Paula walked passed him making a silly comment that he’d ignored at his very best and as usual she was splendidly dressed and was attending the event on behalf of Stewart and Victoria, who for some reason had missed the august occasion.
A heavenly image struck his gaze and left him transfixed for a few minutes. His heart beat doubled and his feet staggered. Her glamour was that of a deity. Five long years had passed and she’d not laid eyes on her.
His worst nightmare stood right in front of him-Kate was married. The way she wrapped beside the young man’s arms told him how happy she was with him. The Kate he loved will never be so engrossed with a man, if she still loved him. She was happy and he couldn’t accept it.
He’d sought to reach her after his divorce but there was no trace of her in Milan, but now that he’d found her, he swore to never let her go until he’d let her know how much he wanted her back.
Dan stepped out in his elegant grey suit, probably to meet someone he’d been eyeballing across the hall the entire time, without Kate’s knowledge. He dashed into one of the dark corridors to meet his supposed ghost acolyte.
Kate hurried to the ladies’ room while her exotic Louis Vuitton robe trailed behind. A masculine shadow gripped her in the dim corridor while she retaliated and was stunned by whom she saw.
“Adam?” She demanded. “What the hell are you doing here?” She asked, “Get your hands off me.” She demanded. He’d rested both hands on her butt and perhaps was carried away by the dramatic gesture that she was once his girlfriend.
“Oh, my bad.” He took his hands off her while she ignored him ant tried walking away.
“Kate. I know I wrong you in ways beyond... ”Adam began while she scanned the dark corners to make sure nobody saw them in such an uncompromising situation.
“Adam, stop!” She ordered, her body yielding to his tempting words “By the way, where’s your wife?” She asked with an intimidating gaze indicating she already knew what had happened between them.
“We’re divorced, and I wanted to use this opportunity to…”
“I see, sorry about that.” She shoved the remaining words into his mouth.
“I’ve got to find my husband.” She mocked, in speedy steps that faded the corridor, living Adam with a doubtful gaze of how further her soul was from his.
Her gaze dropped as she saw someone who looked like Dan speaking with Paula in a dark secluded corner. She watched her back to see if Adam had followed her. She nestled and focused on their conversation.
“What do you want from me Paula?’’ Dan began looking around to make sure no one was watching.
“I see you are a happily married man now.” She uttered in disdain which aroused Kate’s curiosity why she should care if she did marry a man who wasn’t Adam. Could they be having an affair? She pondered but she sought to clear her doubts based from their discussion.
“Paula what’s this about? Dan asked in panic. “I took her far away as you asked.” He argued. Kate couldn’t believe her discovery. Dan and Paula had been working together. Apparently Paula had hired him to distract her from Adam and he’d fallen in love with her strongly.
“I didn’t ask you to marry her idiot.” Paula whispered in a somewhat angry tone.
“But I love her.” Dan argued while Paula pinned his gaze on him to refute the absurdity he was spitting out.
“I don’t care, I didn’t ask you to marry her.” She warned. “I want her dead, if I can’t have Adam, she certainly will not. I don’t care how you do it, I want Kate dead as soon as possible” She ordered and sought to leave while Dan grabbed her wrist firmly and pleaded her to consider his feelings.
“I love her Paula; I can’t hurt her, besides we’re married. She doesn’t love Adam anymore.” Dan insisted hopping to dissuade her from her supposed plans for Kate.
“If I were you, I won’t be so sure Dan.” Paula announced and took frantic steps back to the buzzing hall. “I’m sure you won’t want her to find out that we know each other?” Paula posed
a threat in a lousy manner, wheeling the small bend that led to the heaving hall.
Chapter 12
Kate is once more left in the cruel hands of fate. She could have sworn on her life that Dan was a gift from above, but he too was a tool used by Paula, to separate her from Adam. He sure did a fine job over their years together by loving her unconditionally. It was rather strange for her to digest the thought that she’d been sleeping with an enemy in all those years they spent in their little paradise of love. He was the epitome of blissful matrimony but all that had come crumbling, the moment she’d discovered their alliance.
She’d shuddered in fear and stumbled over some cans that had alerted Daniel of her presence at the scene of their meeting. He’d recognized her dress and was on her chase while she made her way out of the ceremonial ground.
“Baby…baby…wait, let me explain.” Dan ran after Kate while she hopped into her car and drove off. She was at top speed and Daniel rode after her in a more intense acceleration. Shock ran past Adam’s face as he pondered what could have troubled Kate, though there was little or nothing he could do, with Daniel on the loose.
Tears filtered down her cheeks as the flashlights from speeding cars blinded her greasy eyes. She had to escape at all cost, she told herself. Why was life treating her so unfairly, she had the best man in the world, though she’d thought he was too perfect to be real.
He’d come into her life to lure her out of Milan, no wonder he’d quickly bought the idea of moving to some faraway island. He’d fallen in love with her more than he could ever have imagine and now her life was being demanded as a ransom for Paula’s broken marriage.
He drove for hours without a trace of her. “What have I done?” Dan pondered in tears. He was going to lose the only woman that brought meaning to his life. He’d lost his father a few months after they tied the knot. He was never going to let Kate be in harm’s way even if it was the last thing he had to do before his dying breathe.
