Temptation and Lies

“Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen,” Steven shouted over the music and laughter.
Blake crossed the room and lowered the music.
“Since this is a day of celebrations for two of my favorite couples—” he turned to Mia “—I want to celebrate the rest of my life with you.”
A soft gasp of expectation filled the room.
“I want to come home to you, sleep and wake with you. Share my joys and sorrows with you.” He reached into his pants pocket and took out a diamond ring set in platinum with tiny diamonds encrusted on the band.
Mia began to shake.
“You’re my world.”
“You go, boy!” Blake cheered.
Mia’s eyes filled.
“Say you’ll marry me and finally make me complete.”
For a moment she couldn’t breathe, she couldn’t think. It all seemed so surreal. And when she looked into his eyes, saw the depth of his feelings for her hovering there, the dam finally broke.
“Yes, yes, yes, I’ll marry you.”
Whoops of joy exploded in the room.
Steven put the ring on her finger and gathered her up in his embrace. “I love you,” he said for her ears only. “I love you,” he repeated.
Her heart swelled to bursting and tears spilled from her eyes. This was joy, Mia thought. This was true happiness. One man devoted to one woman, wanting only each other and the best for each other. This was love. The real thing, and she was never going to let it go.
They kissed as if they were the only two people in the room. And to them they were.
