She's a Knockout!

by L. A. Jennings

The interesting thing about fighting sports is that the action and technique of each activity are no different between men and women. Fighters perform the same moves and techniques regardless of sex. There are, in effect, more differences between male fighters than there are between men and women in the ring. It takes courage to enter the ring no matter who you are; however, the women who fought in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were, in my opinion, the epitome of bravery and resiliency. Despite risks of social alienation and even scuffles with the law, these historic female fighters were relentless in their pursuit of the sports they loved. Their courage reminds us that as important as it is to look forward to the next fight, the next opponent, the next title shot, it is just as crucial that we look back and remember the women who gave us the audacity to fight today.
