“Emmie, your Papa tells me that I might offer you a birthday present as well. Would you like to visit Hunter’s Ridge next weekend?” Lucas asked. Lucy squealed with pleasure and Emmie slid off her Papa’s lap and ran to hug Lucas.
“Oh yes,” Emmie said, and then quickly amended her statement. “I mean yes, Sir, if my Papa allows.” Stefan laughed as she returned to his lap.
“I’ve already agreed, Emmie,” Stefan assured her. “If you manage to behave this week, I think it would be lovely to spend the weekend.”
“May we ride, Papa? Lucy said there are lots of horses,” Emmie squealed, almost quivering with excitement.
“Yes, Emmie, we may ride as long as Lord Huntington agrees,” Stefan said, and then chuckled. “I do suggest that you be a very good girl next week and allow your little bottom time to heal. I promise, sitting in a saddle with a sore bottom tends to take a great deal of the joy from the ride, and remember, you are to obey Uncle Lucas or find yourself across his knees if I am not available.”
“Papa!” Emmie said, and then giggled as she realized their friendship had just moved to a different level, one she accepted completely. “I promise to be good, Uncle Lucas.” Lucy was giggling herself, imagining her friend over her Papa’s knees.
Lucas grinned and patted her bottom, telling her that her own bottom could expect the same if Uncle Stefan found cause to lift her skirts.
“Yes, Papa,” Lucy said with a smile, before giggling again and adding her own confirmation that sitting in a saddle upon an already-tender bottom was quite unpleasant. “You’ll love my sisters,” Lucy assured Emmie. “They know I’m Papa’s little girl, so they won’t tease you at all.” Lucas didn’t say anything, but was pleased to hear her speak so sweetly about his sisters.
As they drove home, Lucy smiled up from where she was seated on Lucas’ lap. “Thank you, Papa. It was a wonderful day,” she said sweetly, and didn’t seem to realize tears were sliding down her cheeks until he brushed them away with his thumbs.
“Don’t cry, Kitten,” he said, thinking she might be upset over the warning he’d given her. “I’m sure my Kitten will be a good girl so that Uncle Stefan doesn’t have to spank her bottom.” He was relieved when she giggled.
“It’s not that, Papa. I know Uncle Stefan won’t spank me unless I’m really naughty. I’m just so happy. Not only have I got you to love me, I have Nanny Molly, a new home, new sisters and a new friend and a new uncle. I am the luckiest little girl in the whole world.” Lucy felt a sense of great peace fill her. No matter what the coming years would bring, she no longer missed Louisa quite as much. For the first time, she was positive that she was where she belonged, that her new home was indeed at Hunter’s Ridge.
By the time the carriage was pulling into the drive, Lucy was sound asleep, her head resting against her Papa’s chest. He climbed from the carriage, took her into his arms, and carried her up to his room. As he gently undressed her and slid into the bed beside her, he remembered her earlier words. Lucy might feel she was the luckiest girl in the world but he knew without a doubt that he was the most blessed man in the universe.
EPILOGUE
Emmie’s visit to Hunter’s Ridge was a success. On their second day of riding, Lucy and she had collapsed into giggles, both rubbing their backsides when their Papas lifted them from their horses. Both had rather tender bottoms after being caught playing on the floor of Lucy’s nursery instead of taking their naps. Though both girls had initially been embarrassed as their Papas pulled them across their laps, pushing their gowns up and their diapers down, spanking them at the same time until both were sobbing and very contrite, each accepted her discipline, as well as her Papa's right to administer it.
Despite that one incident, Emmie had loved the weekend. She instantly found new friends in Lucy’s sisters; their evenings spent playing games with each other and their Papas.

A few weeks later, Lucy opened a letter and squealed with delight. Louisa wrote that she and Edward would be arriving within a few weeks to spend a month at Hunter’s Ridge during the upcoming holidays. Lucas was pleased as well and announced that he would hold a reception. He told Lucy he would also invite Lord Northbridge and Emmie, making her smile even more. Lucy couldn’t wait to introduce Louisa to her new sisters and her new friend. Though they often exchanged letters, actually being able to sit and talk, to giggle and share their stories would be a wonderful way to begin the holiday season. She thanked her husband and he smiled, happier than he had ever imagined he could be, knowing that Lucy was the only present he would ever need.
