Writing group buddies Cal Armistead, Karen Jersild, Pauline Briere, and Chris Daly whose critique over wine and snacks was always spot-on. A special shout-out to Cal, for her comments on multiple manuscripts, her insights on life, and OOB.

The Stonecoast MFA program and its instructors—a life-changing graduate experience by the sea.

Devon Sprague, who was my first writing compadre in graduate school and now a lifelong friend. May we always bond over Stephen King and Margaret Mitchell.

Lisa Yelon and her keen eye for young adult literature and intelligent writing advice.

My family—Kiki, Mark, David, Paul, Barb, Kathy, Rachel, Sam, Louis, and Lina for their love, humor, and support.

Allison Chou, for the impromptu photo at the Lawn on D, first shot, done and done.

Mr. Pekar, my high school English teacher, who told me I’d get published one day and that he better be in the acknowledgments.

Millie, who was the inspiration behind the character Orah. May you rest in peace and forever be looking out from your cabin on Lake Champlain.

My grandparents, who are always with me in spirit when I write about birds.

  About the Author

Kara Storti knew she wanted to be a writer when she decided to skip her junior prom to attend the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference in Middlebury, Vermont. In the years following, she spent most of her free time writing short stories, novellas, and poems, and composing pop songs. In 2006 she graduated from the University of Southern Maine with an MFA in Creative Writing, where she fell in love with writing novels for young adults. Kara has been a singer, songwriter, pianist, and flautist since she was a child and has performed throughout the world. She grew up in upstate New York in a place not unlike Dammertown and now resides in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Tripping Back Blue is Kara’s first book.
