“That’s all, thank you.” Landon sighed. Getting up from the chair, she headed for the door and almost made it outside before Braxton piped up, “Katarina? Just out of curiosity, what happened to Sophie Kincaid and Anne Conner? None of the agents could find them.”
Turning, Katarina smiled and said, “Oh didn’t you see…when the cow jumped over Moon, a little dog laughed, and the dish ran away with the spoon.” Then she walked out of the sheriff’s station and laughed.
Chapter Fourteen
Katarina had just stepped out of her shower and wrapped a towel around her as she thought of them. She wondered how well they were faring under the scrutiny of the federal agents and the sheriff. So much had happened in such a short time, she knew it was going to take her days to comprehend it all, but the few things she did know was that Sophie and her sister Anne were on a plane heading for France, and that the Kincaid brothers loved her.
She never thought she needed anyone, but when those men steamrolled into her life, showing her that life could be fun and adventurous again, she never looked back. She prayed that when the dust settled, they would come back to her. She already missed them terribly.
Throwing on a robe, she headed for her kitchen, deciding she needed a hot cup of tea to calm her whirling mind. After only drinking half of it, she went back to her bedroom, turned out the lights, and fell onto her bed and dreamed of her three men.
Two days had gone by and she still hadn’t heard a single word from them. She had made some calls, and all she could find out was that the Kincaid brothers had been set free yesterday, and no one had seen them since. She also learned that all the charges against Sophie had been dropped, but she was still a suspect in the murder of her sister Tatiana Romanov, along with her sister Anne, who was probably drinking a glass of wine in front of the Eiffel Tower.
She has been summoned to the Dungeon earlier in the day by Matthias. Even though she really didn’t feel like participating in any scenes, she did have bills to pay. Hoping her job would take her mind off the brothers, she dressed in her typical black latex clothes and steeled herself for the job she was about to do. She didn’t relish the thought of working over another sub, but anything was better than sitting in her apartment waiting.
When she zipped up her last boot, she grabbed her whip and headed downstairs.
Exiting the elevator, Gabriel greeted her. “Hello, my dear. You look lovely tonight.”
“Thank you, Sir.”
“I know you really don’t want to do this, so I am giving you an out. You can walk away now, and I won’t think anything of it.”
“What are you talking about, Gabriel?” she asked, annoyed. She was the only Domme at the Pleasure Cave. If a customer requested her, it was her job to assist in any way she could.
“What I am saying is love is like a misfit. She can create havoc without us even knowing, and by the time we realize it, we are in her web. If you feel that you can’t give yourself one hundred percent tonight to the person who requested you, then, my dear, you shouldn’t go in there.”
“Gabriel.” Katarina sighed. “I appreciate you looking after me, but I am fine.”
“So you really want to do your job tonight and work over a new sub?”
Did she? Katarina really didn’t want to do anything. What she wanted was for her men to come to her and take her away from this place. She wanted the adventure back. She wanted to be in their arms forever, having them love her. She wanted to experience everything she thought she’d lost so long ago. She didn’t want to train a new sub. She didn’t want to work at the club anymore. She wanted to flee.
Silently shaking her head, she dropped her whip and wept. She never felt Gabriel’s arms wrap around her, holding her as she cried.
“I think you’ve made your decision, my dear. I will let Matthias know immediately,” he said kindly, wiping away her tears. “Go on back to your room, my dear. We will talk in the morning, when you are more yourself.”
Nodding, Katarina turned and headed back upstairs to her room. She had entered her apartment and stopped dead in her tracks. There, lounging on the couch was Jack, dressed in black leathers and holding a flogger. Brannon leaned against the far wall. He, too, dressed in leather, twirling a set of handcuffs. And her Conner lay on the floor, naked, wearing the peacock mask that Moon Goddess had put in the wooden box for her.
“Hello, Pussy Kat. Wanna play?” Jack asked.
“Hey, Kitty Kat, ready for more?” Brannon grinned.
“Let’s have another adventure, Ms. Peacock,” Conner said.
Her Misfits were finally here, and she loved them with every wicked beat of her heart. They were crazy and so was she. They were perfect…her perfect fit, and she knew that whatever they had planned would be the adventure of a lifetime. She couldn’t wait to get started.
