Her father didn’t see it as ‘no big deal’, but a sharp look from his wife made his temper change. “Fine. I will leave it alone, but next time you try to do something like that, you need to talk to us first.”
Maya agreed that she would, hoping that there wouldn’t be a next time. She needed everything to just settle down and for people to stop asking her why when she didn’t even have the answer for herself. Why did she feel so much for a man that was so different that her, different than anything she had ever been around? Rick was rough and tumble and he had pulled her into his world, when he had pulled her into the closet weeks before.
Chapter 7
“Sir, do you have anything to say about going with the Sky Hawks?”
It had been months since the whole stunt with jail. Rick had finished off school as quietly as possible, partying less and focusing more on his degree. If nothing else, he had learned that nothing was guaranteed and really wanted the back-up plan of his business degree. But things had worked out how he had always dreamed they would. He was sitting down in front of a group of microphones, talking to the press about the huge deal that he had just signed for the next five years.
All of his dreams had come true and he knew more than anything that it was largely in part to a woman that he only met a couple of times. Maya had disappeared and Rick had been unable to track her. He wasn’t sure what happened, but it was becoming clear that she didn’t want to be found.
“I want to say thank you to the owners of such a great team for having me. I can’t think of anywhere else I would rather be. I also want to thank the girl that helped make it all possible. You know who you are. Couldn’t have done it without you and I wish I could thank you in person.”
The reporter looked a little confused with his answer. “Is there anyone in particular that you were talking to? We can get a name and find them for you?”
He just shook his head. “No, she knows who she is.”
Rick stood up and was done. The reporters called after him, but he couldn’t be bothered. He had always dreamed of the time when people would want to hear what he had to say. He just didn’t know that it wouldn’t be worth as much as he thought it would be. He was supposed to be happier, but his mind was still on what he didn’t have and what he wanted. He wanted Maya to call him. He wanted to see her. For someone that he hadn’t really talked to, she had changed his life, though she claimed that he had done the same thing. He is not sure how that was possible, but Rick believed her. They were both affecting each other from afar and Rick just wanted to see her close up again.
Last time they had really been together was in the chemistry closet and she had not been that happy with him. Rick was hoping that she saw it and got his message. Maya was on his mind and he knew that none of it was going to be worth it, if he never saw her again. Rick hadn’t been with anyone in months, waiting for her to pop up like she seemed to do. When she didn’t, making a message to her like he had, seemed to be the only way to talk to her, but he didn’t know if she had gotten it. Even if she didn’t see it or get his message, Rick was happy that it was out there for her. It gave him hope that everything would work out.

What he hadn’t planned for was the media storm that his words had caused. Several posts on the internet came from girls that he had known in high school and college, some he doubted he had ever met before, all hoping that they were the one that he had made note of. It was embarrassing by the way that so many from his past were now speaking about him like they were the one. His sex life was all over the internet and so were the stories of all of those women.
There was no way that Maya was going to get into the middle of it. She had been the type that came from a good family and his idea had back-fired. He didn’t even want to be a part of all of it, so how could he expect her to want anything to with it as well. It was a big mess and Rick almost wished that he hadn’t said anything at all. He should have just thought about her while he lay in bed at night. It was what he had been doing for so long and now, he wished that he had kept it inside.
Nothing good was going to come from it that much was clear. The hope of her contacting him was not going to happen and he had to change his number twice when someone sold him out for it. Even if she had called, she was screened with the thousands of other calls that he got, many of them claiming to be the one. But none of them were Maya.

“Can you believe all the hub bub over that hockey player from Clover?”
Maya nodded. She had heard a bit about it, only because she was keeping up with Rick in the papers. She had heard the comment he made, played it over and over again, wondering if he was talking about her. She had almost called him, but then there had been so many women coming forward, that she figured it wasn’t her and she would get lost in the tangle.
“No I can’t. He is just a guy like all the rest. They are treating him like he is a god or something.”
She didn’t like to think about him and the last thing that Maya wanted to do was think about Rick. “You know how women are. They flock to muscles and money.”
Donna agreed, but her eyes were taking in the hard lines of the picture on her phone. She didn’t mind looking at him either. “I think whoever it is should come forward. The madness is not going to end until they find out who the mystery girl is. Aren’t you a little curious?”
She shook her head that she wasn’t. Donna was graduated and out of school, while Maya had went another direction and was working on her law degree. It had certainly made her parent’s happy. It was much more of a real career. She had been in woman’s studies, but that was more to piss them off. After what happened with Rick and everything else going on, Maya had decided that she wanted to work in law instead. So she didn’t have time to be curious. Her school load was even heavier than before and even though her friend was over, she was finding it hard to put the book down.
“Are you going to study the whole time I am here?”
She put down the book and apologized. “Sorry. This stuff is just harder than I thought. It is a lot to remember. So what were you saying?”
Donna rolled her eyes like she had done so many times before. “I liked you better when you were studying gender studies. It was a lot easier to party.”
Maya nodded. She still wasn’t sure about her new career path, but there was something in the feeling of getting Rick of that horrible place, it made her realize that she wanted to do more. Being a criminal defense attorney wasn’t on her mind until then. It was just another way that he had changed her without even knowing it. Just knowing Rick had changed her whole life. There was still a small part of her that wondered if he was talking to her at his contract signing. It made her smile to herself, but no one else knew.
“Maya? Where are you lately? I swear you have been weird for months.”
“Sorry, I just got stuff on my mind. What were you saying?”
“We should go to a party, have a couple of drinks at the bar, something. I can’t look at you studying any more. Wasn’t four years enough for you?”
She shrugged. It was enough, but there was something in the way that she said it. Had she gotten that bad? Looking down at her sweat pants and oversized T shirt, she decided that Donna was right. “You’re right. Let’s get out of here for a while. The test is still going to be there tomorrow, so no need to waste such a nice night indoors and sober.”
Maya wasn’t sure if she was up for a party, but a few drinks at the bar didn’t sound so bad. It was good to be out with Donna who had been on vacation for a couple of weeks with her new boy toy. “Good, I hate going out when you are at home.”
Chapter 8
Maya was out. She had gotten dressed in something short and tight, making herself feel instantly better. She wasn’t on the prowl, but her body thought she was. Maya hadn’t been with anyone since Justin and though she didn’t see them getting back together, she missed some of the activities that the two of them would do together. He had al
ways known her body well, but it was just touch in general that she missed. Maya hoped that if he was standing in front of her offering, she would turn him down.
There were not many people there that she didn’t know. Clover was next door to Stapleton and even there, everyone knew who she was. She had grown up in the small towns in Georgia and like all the small towns that dotted the Georgia forests, everyone knew everyone. So when there was a ruckus at the front and everyone was getting up and moving towards the door, Maya wondered what was going on. There was a crowd of people that came in and she heard a name that made her turn around to look.
Maya couldn’t believe it. There he was. Rick was standing there, his dark eyes meeting hers. “Well there you are.”
She looked down for a second. It felt like it was only the two of them in the bar, but he was in fact surrounded by a large group of people. There were requests for pictures and autographs which the man entertained for a few minutes. His eyes kept looking over at Maya before he sat down next to her, waving off the rest, telling them that he needed a beer.
“So do I get an autograph?”
“Honey, you can have anything you want. Who would have thought after all of that, I would have found you back home in a bar?”
Maya just shrugged. It was strange having him there in front of her, close enough that they could touch after thinking about him for so long. “After all of what?”
“You got my message. Everyone but you did.”
Her heart fluttered a little with his words. She no longer had to wonder if it was for her, she had deep in her gut known it was all along. Maya wasn’t sure what it was that he wanted from her, but she liked the idea that she had impacted his life in some way. It had seemed like the thing to do at the time and though she had gotten a little flack for doing it, Maya would have done it again. She was happy that he had been signed. He was a force to be reckoned with on the ice and she had enjoyed watching him, even if it was all a little too brutal for her taste.
“I did see the press release on the contract. Good job on that. You deserve it. You really are great on the ice.”
“Then why didn’t you contact me? I have had every crazy girl in America trying to be the one and you never called.”
She shrugged. “We had never even really talked Rick. How was I to know that you were talking about me?”
Rick leaned in and kissed her. Her lips were soft and her eyes widened slightly not expecting that to happen. When he finally pulled away, her eyes were closed and when she opened them again, she looked a little confused. “What was that for?”
“I’ve been wanting to do that since the closet.”
“And?”
He chuckled and leaned in again. Maya had been waiting for it as well, though she hadn’t known it at the time. There was something magical there, a surge of endorphins with the touch. It was like she had felt in the closet, that something missing that had led her to leave Justin. It was real and tangible, dominating her senses as they kissed. His touch only amplified the feeling and Maya was soon leaning against him for more.
She was the one who pulled away, realizing that they were in the middle of a bar in a town where everyone knew everything. Her cheeks were a little red and she had completely forgotten what they were talking about. Looking around, they had gotten more attention than she was prepared for. He was not just Rick anymore, but a hockey star and the newest recruit to one of the more popular teams in the country.
“Why don’t we get out of here Maya? So we can be alone.”
“What makes you think that I want to be alone with you?”
“That kiss told me everything that I need to know.”
She pushed him away and sighed. “Guys like you always think you know best.”
He shook his head. “I can’t even begin to understand you, but I understand need and desire. You have both of those and it seems like the least I can do is help you along.”
She kind of giggled at the way he said it. “Help me along huh?”
“Please? I’ve been dying to do more than kiss you for a long time.”
“But we don’t even know each other.”
“I know enough that I can’t get you out of my mind. Let me just have tonight.”
Donna had long since left her with an encouraging look and Maya’s lips were still tingling where he had kissed her. It was what she had dreamed about, the ones that she never replayed in public, her face getting red much like it was then. “You changed my life Maya. Isn’t that enough?”
It was enough. It was enough for her.
“Where do you want to go?”
H shrugged. “Wherever you want to go, but I think we need some privacy.”
Maya agreed, neither one saying why they needed privacy. They didn’t have to though, the kiss had said it all.
Chapter 9
She was nervous as they drove back to her house. He was staying in a hotel and had suggested they go to her place instead. Maya knew that her small apartment wasn’t as nice as the hotel, but she felt like she needed some security in the familiar surroundings. The truck was quiet on the way home, neither one knowing what to say. Maya tried to say something, but her mouth just wasn’t working. Instead she was focused on the man next to her.
“So what have you been doing? I don’t know much about you.”
Maya felt the same way, though she knew as much as everyone else did. Rick was a big deal in their part of the world and she had been keeping up on his career in secret. “Not much. Started law school after I graduated.”
“That’s good. I knew you were smart.”
She just shook her head. “Is that really what you want to talk about?”
He shook his head that it wasn’t. “I would like to stop and slide you on my lap, drill into you right here, but I can’t. So I am trying to keep my mind off of it until we get there.”
“Oh.” Her insides clenched with his words and she looked over at the lap in question. He kind of chuckled at her. “Don’t you have a girlfriend?”
“No, haven’t in months. Been waiting for you Maya.”
Maya didn’t want to believe him. How could a man so virile and strong be waiting for her? She would never know what had him feeling that way and she would never seem to understand why he had changed her so much. It was to her fate. He was supposed to come into her life, as she was supposed to be in his.
“So now that you have me, now what?”
“I don’t have you yet.”
“It’s here.”
He stopped and pulled into the narrow driveway. Rick turned the truck off and looked over at her. He was ready to go in, but she still seemed to be unsure of what was next. He touched her face, kissing her gently. “Come, let’s go in and get to know each other better.”
She kind of giggled at his idea of getting to know each other. Maya wanted him and though it went against everything, she didn’t want to play by the rules. As soon as they were in the apartment, he was pushing her against the wall, kissing her as his hands roamed over her toned body. Her curves were subtle and made his mind go a little fuzzy. She was the perfect mix of hard and soft, her body fitting in against his own like a glove.
“God, I have been waiting for this for a long time.” His lips moved back down to hers, softer as if he had realized that he was pressing against her too roughly. She never would have stopped him, but Maya liked the change in touch and feel. Why did he feel so damn good? It was nothing like what she had felt with Justin. Maya wanted more and found herself pressing against his hard length, focusing her core on him.
She pushed away, trying to catch her breath and move him towards the bedroom. Rick didn’t seem so eager to leave though and pulled her back to him before he could stop himself. His hands worked on her clothes, pulling up the tantalizing dress that she had on. She moaned when his hands were back on her body. It was just happening too fast and Maya was starting to wonder if it was all real.
Maya was naked in front of him, his eyes taking i
n the hard lines and soft curves of her body. Maya tried not to cover herself, but his eyes were so intense that it was hard not to feel a little shy. He wanted more though and when his hands started to make quick work of his own clothes, her eyes took in the hard body. He was huge, ripped and every part of him was ready for her as her eyes fell to the member pointed towards her in between them.
Once again she tried to take him to the bedroom, but Rick wanted her right then and there. Moving towards her, his lips found hers as his hands pressed between her legs to see if she was as ready as he was. When his fingers felt her wetness, he knew that she was. “Put your arms around me Maya.”
She did as he asked, unprepared for when he lifted her up, her back against the wall as he started to slowly enter her. Maya’s eyes closed and her head went back. She cried out as he found himself fully sheathed in her tight glory. Gritting his teeth, he watched her face as he pumped inside of her slowly. It was hard not to feel the pressure as her insides clung as tightly as her arms around his neck.
He could feel her starting to lose herself. Her sounds became louder and longer, the wetness increasing. As she screamed out her pleasure, her walls crushed his member, making him shout. She was too much and what had happened so quickly was over just as fast. He was breathing hard, lodged deep as he emptied himself inside of her. Maya’s grip had slackened, but he wouldn’t let her move. His body still held hers up by his long length.
“Maya. That was better than I could have ever thought. “
She just nodded, gasping when he pulled out of her. There was nothing for her to say or do. When he finally let her go, Maya almost hit her knees. Her legs were no longer working. Helping her stand, Rick was leaning in for another kiss. What he said was true. How could he ever tire of her?
“I want you to come with Maya. I don’t want us to be alone again. I don’t want to think of another day without you. Say you will.”
