“Yeah?” Mike whispered. “You like that?”
“Yesss,” Adam hissed. “Want more.”
Hot damn!
“You have the softest skin,” Mike whispered as he stroked his hand down Adam’s side. His breath caught in his throat when he reached the curve of Adam’s ass and the man pulled his leg up to his chest. Mike’s fingers slid right down inside the back of Adam’s pants, pressing a finger between his ass cheeks.
Adam cried out and arched against him.
Mike pressed the tip of his finger against Adam’s greedy hole, teasing him. When Adam started to pant, Mike forced himself to move his hand away from Adam’s ass and back up to his chest. As much as he wanted to sink into Adam’s silky depths, he wanted the man mindless with passion first.
Mike moved his hand up under Adam’s chin and cupped his jaw, tilting his head back. He swirled his tongue over Adam’s sweet-tasting skin, remembering how good it felt to kiss the man. They had spent hours just making out on the couch, or anywhere else they could find a quiet corner.
Mike loved kissing Adam.
“I want you, Adam,” Mike whispered against Adam’s hot skin. “Will you let me have you? Will you be mine again? Will you let me keep you this time?”
Adam inhaled sharply. “Yes.”
Mike squeezed his eyes shut for a moment as Adam’s words washed over him. He had ached for Adam for so long, and to be holding him in his arms again, Mike was starting to wonder if he would ever see the day.
And yet, here it was.
He wasn’t going to waste it. Mike carefully undressed Adam, kissing each bit of golden skin he uncovered. Once Adam was naked, Mike scooted to the end of the bed. He started to pull off the hospital shirt he had been given when pain ripped through his shoulder. Mike hissed as he grabbed it.
“What’s wrong?” Adam asked.
“You’re going to have to help me here, Adam.”
Adam stood up beside him and gently pulled the shirt from his shoulders, tossing it to the floor. Mike hissed again when Adam’s hands went to the buckle of his belt. When Adam glanced up, Mike just grinned.
Adam chuckled and went back to the belt. By the time he was climbing back onto the mattress, his cock ached more than his shoulder. When Adam stretched out beside him, Mike drew the man back into his arms.
“I love you, Adam,” Mike whispered. “I will love you until the day I die.”
Adam stilled then glanced at him. His perfect brown eyebrows were drawn together in a deep frown of confusion. “Mike?”
Mike knew he had kind of blindsided Adam with his admission, but he couldn’t hold his feelings in anymore. He did love Adam, to the depths of his soul. He’d gladly give his life for the man, fight any enemy, and protect him from the world Mike knew was out there. He would do anything for Adam.
Mike leaned forward and claimed Adam’s plush lips before the man could say another word. He was a little afraid Adam didn’t feel the same. Kissing Adam was just as good as licking his skin. Touching him was even better. The soft little moans of delight that fell from Adam’s lips went right to Mike’s cock, making him harder than steel. He felt like he could fuck a brick wall.
Mike stroked his hand over Adam’s smooth chest as he kissed him. His heart tripped when he felt Adam’s nipples pebble under the palms of his hand. He twirled his fingers around one nipple, stroking the sensitive flesh until Adam was shuddering in his arms.
“Do you like that, baby?” Mike asked as he tugged on a nipple with his fingers. Adam’s only answer was a slow moan as he arched toward Mike’s fingers. Mike chuckled lightly and switched from one nipple to the other, giving it the same treatment. “I guess you do.”
“Mike, please,” Adam cried out.
Mike moved his hand away from Adam’s nipples and stroked it down the man’s flat stomach to his abdomen. He thought he was going to come before he even had a chance to get at Adam’s ass. He leaned back until he could grab the bottle of lube and a condom off his dresser then scooted down Adam’s body. He so had to taste Adam’s smooth skin.
Mike rolled Adam onto his back and settled between his legs.
Adam almost came off the bed when Mike licked a line from his balls to the top of his groin. Mike grinned and pressed his hands against Adam’s hips, holding him down to the bed as he continued to lick every bit of smooth skin he could reach.
Mike’s cock ached so much he was afraid it might break off if he nudged it even a little. Adam was unlike any lover he’d ever had. The man was a marvel, accepting everything Mike had to give him and begging for more.
Mike poured some lube out on his fingers then pushed them between Adam’s ass cheeks. They slid easily in until he reached Adam’s tight hole. The tightness of Adam’s puckered opening made Mike shudder in anticipation. He couldn’t wait to have that tightness wrapped around his cock.
Mike started brushing his fingers against Adam’s hole, putting more pressure into his touch with each caress until they slipped inside. Adam groaned, stiffening. Mike eased up for a moment then leaned forward to swallow Adam’s cock, sucking it down his throat.
Once Adam was distracted by the mouth on his cock, Mike started pushing his fingers into the man’s ass again. This time, he met no resistance. Two fingers slid right in. It didn’t take Mike more than a few moments of stretching Adam before he could get in a third finger.
Once Adam was sufficiently stretched, Mike released the cock in his mouth to Adam’s cries of dismay. He scooted up and knelt between Adam’s thighs. His hands shook as he tore open the small foil packet and then rolled the condom down his aching dick.
Mike gripped Adam’s ass with his hands, lifted him up, and then thrust forward. His body quaked as his cock sank into Adam’s sweet body. Mike dropped his head back on his shoulders and just breathed once he was fully in.
“You have me, Adam,” he groaned. “Every inch of me.”
“Move, damn you!”
Mike’s eyes widened when Adam smacked him on the arm. He glanced down at the man, shocked by the fierceness on Adam’s face. Mike raised Adam’s legs into the air and hooked his arms under them. When he leaned forward over Adam’s body and placed his hands on either side of his head, Adam’s legs were parallel to his chest.
Mike flexed his hips and slowly withdrew his cock until on the head remained encased inside Adam’s body, and then he slammed forward. Adam screamed as his head arched back into the pillow beneath him.
Mike did it again and again, moving faster and faster with each deep thrust. Only by gripping Adam’s thighs did he keep the man from shooting up to the top of the bed as he pounded into him.
Mike was getting close. He could feel his balls drawing up tight against his body. He knew he only had moments before he flew over the edge with abandon. He wanted Adam to go with him.
When Adam cried out and filled the space between them, Mike’s orgasm grabbed him by the balls and dragged him over the edge with Adam. One moment he was on the edge, savoring the exquisite feeling of being balls deep inside Adam. The next moment, he was roaring out his release as he filled the condom with shot after shot of cum.
Mike leaned in and planted a small kiss on Adam’s lips. “My sweet baby.”
Adam smiled back.
Mike carefully slid from Adam’s body and rolled to the side of the bed. He quickly went to the bathroom and cleaned up then went back into the bedroom to clean up Adam up. After chucking the washcloth back into the bathroom, Mike climbed into bed and pulled Adam into his arms, and then pulled the covers over both of them.
“You know I’m keeping you, right?”
Adam leaned up and pressed his lips to Mike’s before raising his eyes. “I know.”
“I’m talking the whole ball of wax here, Adam. Marriage, a home, lots of little colts running around in the backyard. Everything.”
Mike had to be sure Adam understood what he wanted.
Tears swam in Adam’s eyes when he leaned up and pressed his lips to Mike’s aga
in. “It needs to be a really big yard.”
Chapter Nine
Adam was scared out of his mind. Mike was promising him the world, and Adam was terrified something would happen to take that away from him before he truly had a chance to enjoy the realization that Mike was finally his.
“Are you going to tell anyone about us?”
Mike glanced up from his breakfast. “I kind of have to if we’re going to invite them to the wedding.”
Adam tried not to smile, but it was almost impossible. “You want to have a wedding?”
Mike set his fork down on his plate and then wiped his mouth before reaching over and entwining their fingers. “I told you I wanted to marry you, Adam. It’s kind of hard to do that if we don’t have a wedding.”
“We could go down to the justice of the peace.”
“Is that what you want?”
“No, but…” Adam’s eyebrows lifted when Mike slid to his knees in front of him.
“What’s wrong, baby?” Mike asked. “Why are you freaking out?”
“I’m afraid this isn’t real or that it’s all going to be taken away from us.”
“I won’t let it,” Mike promised. “I finally have you and you know the truth about me, about what I want for us. I refuse to let anyone take that away from us.”
The doorbell rang.
Adam just stared at Mike.
“It’s just the doorbell, Adam,” Mike said as he got to his feet. “It’s probably the sheriff coming to check on us.”
Mike’s explanation made sense, but Adam didn’t buy it. Besides the fact that he had a cold chill going down his back, it felt as if the universe was out to keep them apart. Well, someone was anyway. Otherwise, they would have been together this entire time.
Adam picked up his coffee and took a sip, trying to settle his stomach, or at least give himself something to do with his hands instead of curling them into fists. His nerves were on edge. He adored Mike and wanted nothing more other than to build a life with him here in Cade Creek. Adam just couldn’t shake the feeling that it would never happen.
He glanced toward the entry when Mike didn’t come right back. What in the hell was keeping him? How long did it take to answer the front door?
Growing impatient, Adam set his coffee down and got up. As he walked toward the entryway to the kitchen, he realized he couldn’t hear any noise. No talking or walking or anything. It was almost silent.
“Mike?”
The front door was wide open, with no sign of Mike anywhere. There was no sign of anyone anywhere. Adam stepped into the doorway and looked outside. The sun had come up a few hours ago. He could clearly see everything in front of the house. Besides Mike’s car, there was nothing to indicate the man had even been there.
This was not good.
Adam rubbed his hands up and down his arms to ward off the chill that seemed to spread from his back toward his front and then down his entire body. He suddenly had a flashback to when Mike had disappeared before, and he didn’t like it.
“I’ll be damned if I let him die a second time.” Adam pulled his phone out as he stepped back into the house and shut the door. He dialed the one number he knew could help him. “Russ, I’m at Mike’s place. I need help.”
“I’m on my way.”
Adam felt a smile tug at his lips. His brother didn’t even question him. Just said he was on his way. That’s why he wanted to move back to Cade Creek. He wanted to live around that kind of love and support.
“We were having coffee when the doorbell rang,” Adam started, knowing his brother needed to every ounce of information if he was going to help. “Mike went to answer it and never came back. When I went to see what was keeping him, the door was wide open and Mike was just gone.”
Tears filled Adam’s eyes. He couldn’t live through this again.
“He’s gone, Russ.”
“We’ll find him, bro.”
Adam wasn’t so sure.
“How well do you know this guy?” Russ asked. “Could he have taken off?”
“He wouldn’t just take off like that.” Adam knew it in his gut. “We were discussing the wedding.”
“What wedding?”
“Our wedding.”
Adam pulled the phone away from his ear and stared at it when nothing except complete silence met his words.
“Russ?”
“You’re getting married?”
“Yes.”
“Since when?”
“Since last night when Mike proposed.”
Well, he hadn’t exactly proposed. More like just decided it was going to happen, but Adam was happily going along with the plan, so whatever.
“I guess you know him pretty well, then.”
“We dated back in the city.”
Adam winced when he heard his brother huff. He knew Russ was getting fed up with his simple answers. The man wanted the whole truth. “We were dating, but Mike was investigating a drug operation being run out of the clinic where I was interning. He couldn’t tell me at the time that he worked for the DEA, even though he argued with his superiors about it. He wanted to tell me. They ordered him not to.”
“So, why did you stop dating?” Russ asked. “And does he have anything to do with why you came back to Cade Creek? Were you coming after him?”
“Yes and no.”
“Adam.”
“He went on a mission, the one here in Cade Creek where he got shot. I didn’t know he had been shot. I just thought he was gone for a while, but when he didn’t come back, I filed a missing person’s report. Two cops showed up at my door to inform me Mike had been killed in a drive-by shooting and to question me about him.” Adam swallowed the tight lump in his throat. “I thought he was dead, Russ. That’s why I came back to Cade Creek.”
“Shit!”
“That night at the bar was the first time I’d seen him since he left on his mission.”
“Is that when you learned he was alive?”
“Yeah.”
“Fuck, man, why would he do that?”
“He didn’t, Russ. Someone left a letter at his apartment, supposedly from me, telling Mike I wanted nothing to do with him and to leave me alone.”
“And it wasn’t you?”
Adam shook his head even though his brother couldn’t see it. “No.”
“You need to call the sheriff right now, Adam, and tell him everything you just told me.”
“Why?” Adam so did not want his dirty laundry aired in public. Granted, neither him nor Mike had done this, but still. It was embarrassing.
“Because I’m pretty damn sure whoever started fucking with your life back in the city is still fucking with it.”
Adam gasped at the implications of Russ’s words. “Who would want to do something like that? Who cares if Mike and I are together?”
“You did say his supervisors objected to him telling you he worked for the DEA.”
“Yeah, but that was because I worked at the clinic and that made me a suspect until Mike cleared me.”
“Did he?” Russ asked. “Did he clear you?”
“Yes.” At least, Mike said he had. “Mike said his superiors told him he couldn’t tell me what was going on even if I was no longer a suspect. If I said anything to anyone at the clinic, it could blow their whole investigation.”
“While that does make sense,” Russ said, “I still don’t like it.”
Adam didn’t either, but there was nothing he could do about it now. “I just want Mike to come home.”
“Home?”
“We already discussed it, and Mike and I decided we want to live here in Cade Creek.”
“There are no DEA offices here in Cade Creek, Adam.”
“I don’t think he’s going to work for the DEA much longer.” At least, that was the impression Mike had given him. And it was too far to commute to the city. “I think he plans on finding something here.”
Adam could hope anyway.
“I’m almost there, Adam
. You need to call the sheriff.”
Right.
“Hurry, please.”
“I will, bro. You know that.”
Adam hung up and immediately dialed the sheriff. After Adam gave him the brief version of his story, the sheriff said he would put men out looking for Mike and then head to the house to take a statement.
Then all Adam had to do was wait, and that might be the most agonizing thing of all. He had no idea if Mike was hurt, in pain, being held captive. He refused to believe Mike was dead. He had been through that already and he wasn’t going through it again.
By the time Adam heard a vehicle pull up in front of the house, he was ready to chew his fingernails off. He ran to the front room and peeked out the window through the curtains. When he spotted Russ climbing out of his truck, Adam threw open the door and raced across the yard for his brother.
Unless he was with Jonny, Russ wasn’t usually physically demonstrative, which was why he was surprised when his brother drew him in for a hug. Maybe Jonny had been working on him.
“We’ll find him, Adam.”
“We have to, Russ.” He blinked up at the larger man through his tears. “He’s mine, you know?”
“I do.” Russ gave Adam one of his rare smiles. “I’d probably go insane if anything happened to Jonny.”
Adam could see that. Russ was about as macho as a man could get. His muscles practically had their own zip code, but Jonny had the man wrapped around his little finger. Granted, Jonny would never abuse that, but everyone in Cade Creek knew Russ doted on him.
“Mike really feels like someone is purposely trying to keep us apart,” Adam explained. “He suspects that it’s his boss, but he never told me exactly who that was. Just that the guy was a homophobic asshole.”
“So, let’s go inside and you can start at the beginning. I want to know every little detail you can think of, no matter how insignificant you might think it is. There has to be some clue.”
“Can we wait for the sheriff?” Adam asked. “He’s headed over to take a statement from me. I’d like to only go over this once if I can help it.”
Russ nodded before wrapping an arm around Adam’s shoulders and leading him toward the house. “Tell me about these wedding plans of yours. Have you told Mom and Dad yet?”
