She could walk anywhere she wanted!
The sword watched her deliberations with patience and, she sensed, no small sense of expectation.
It had broken the curse. She had no doubt of that. By killing her and then restoring her to life, it had freed her from a fate worse than death for any knight, false or otherwise. Humiliation had once been her only destination. But now …
Now she had other prospects.
The sword was still watching her. She had no doubt that it could kill her again, in a moment, if it chose. Furthermore, she supposed the sword would kill her the moment she outlived her usefulness to it, whatever that might be.
She would be sure, in all things, not to give it reason to.
She went down on one knee.
‘I am Sir Saskia,’ she told it, ‘at your service.’
