No words passed between them. They didn’t need to talk. Their thoughts were touching, their souls brushing together like fur sliding against fur. They were only wolves following their instinctual desires, chasing passion to completion.

Robbie spread his legs, exposing the tempting pucker hidden between his gorgeous ass cheeks. His dick was swollen to its full length, the tip red as a cherry; he grabbed the shaft in his hand and started to stroke it in luxurious motions as he waited to be serviced, like an animal in heat displaying itself.

For a moment, all Ulysses could do was look at the man before him, the curves of the muscles on his arm, the way his tendons tightened in his forearm, the shape of his fingers. The arched line of his back as he stretched to be able to grab his dick. The look on his face, mingled ecstasy laced with a need for more.

Through his own horniness, he felt something else form inside him, an extreme form of tenderness which then caused him to do something he never would have imagined he would do.

Leaning down over his partner, Ulysses pressed his lips very gently to Robbie’s swollen red tip. The head was soft as velvet underneath his attention, so soft he might not have known it was there except for the heat of it. His tongue slid out from between his lips and he licked the burning surface, tasting the distinctive salty flavors of fierce sex need.

Robbie was very still under his attentions, his eyes shut tight, his hand in one place around the base of his shaft.

Taking his time, Ulysses lavished love and attention upon the velvet head, kissing it as he might kiss the man upon whose body it was attached. His lips made gentle motions, his tongue caressing, licking, teasing, and finally sucking.

Robbie let out a sharp sound, a strangled gust of breath wrapped around a whimper. His free hand came out, grabbing wildly at Ulysses’ hair. “Don’t!” he gasped.

Ulysses lifted his eyes, still with his mouth wrapped gently around his partner’s head. With his hair tossed wildly about his head, in complete disarray, Robbie looked like a wanton angel.

He had been so focused upon giving pleasure, on following the whim of his mind, that he momentarily forgot about his own horniness. That wasn’t to say he had gone limp. In fact, he was harder than ever. His cock was pounding with need, his groin burning with want. An earthquake spasm stole through him and he moaned, his hot breath coursing all down the length of Robbie’s shaft.

  “Lee!”

  A summons, a plea.

Regretting to do so, Ulysses pulled back and straightened up. Positioning himself once more between Robbie’s legs, he reached down and grabbed his cock in his hand and started to guide it to the waiting opening.

And his journey there was blocked abruptly by a delicate hand, holding a tube of gel lube. Robbie said nothing, probably wasn’t even capable of words at this point, if his rasping breaths were anything to go by.

Grabbing the lube, Ulysses opened it so fiercely that he tore through the plastic near the cap. Hardly able to wait a moment longer now, he swiped lube over the length of his cock, from tip to hilt. He dabbed a liberal amount on Robbie’s opening, feeling the shock of cold echo from Robbie’s mind to his.

Casting the sensation aside, focusing on only the things which were important, he shoved the tube out of the way and guided himself for a second time to Robbie’s opening.

This time, there was no interruption.

As the tip of his cock pressed against Robbie’s opening, he felt a surge of pleasure like nothing ever before, rocking through his entire body like jolts of electricity. His hips bucked. He pushed inside Robbie, then sank in deep. He moved, his hips working, his pelvis thrusting. Deeper and deeper, until they were flush together and he could still feel the desire to go further, to be joined forever, to lock together and never leave this moment of excruciating pleasure.

With a hand on either side of Robbie’s body, Ulysses looked deep into the omega’s eyes and kept thrusting. He could feel everything, every unique ridge and texture inside Robbie, like a fingerprint of identity. He felt the inner tremors from Robbie, the tensing of his muscle walls. The fit was like that of a glove, intensely perfect. Having been together one, their bodies had already adapted to the other.

His thrusts were regular and slow, building the fire, stoking the pleasure. He hit against that deep place of pleasure inside Robbie, over and over again. Each thrust made Robbie moan and whimper and cry out. The omega had entirely given up on stroking his own dick. Instead, both of his hands clutched at Ulysses, pulling for more, begging for an increase in speed.

Ulysses kept going as smoothly as he could, wanting to draw this out for forever if he could. It wasn’t possible, though. He knew that. He could feel that. Each time he pressed against Robbie’s seat of pleasure, Robbie’s textured walls gripped him, like the exquisite tightening of fingers all down the length of his shaft. He was burning from within, his groin overheated, his inhibitions always on the very edge of coming undone.

Then, his thrusting slowed even further. He was fighting against knotting, that unique phenomenon of canines which will not allow them to separate until the deed is done. They were becoming locked together, the moment of completion nearing.

He thrust inside, pulled back as far as he could, and then sank himself as deep as he could in Robbie.

  There.

The moment was upon them. They were joined. He could move no more.

  Not like he needed to.

Robbie cried out and in his orgasmic yell was the howl of a wolf, ululating as if bouncing across a series of mountaintops in the wilderness instead of being trapped within a small, tidy house in the middle of a modern city. His body shook out of control and his nails were like claws, embedded in Ulysses’ skin. His ass muscles were as tight as could be, clamped down hard around Ulysses. The alpha couldn’t have pulled out even if they weren’t knotted.

He wouldn’t have wanted to pull out. The pressure was beyond beautiful. He could feel himself exploding, his mind filled with starbursts of color the likes of which he had never chanced to see before. Tingling spasms rocked him.

Suddenly, he was moving. He couldn’t remember having made the decision to do this, might not have considered it possible if he stopped to think about it. But, it was possible, and he was doing it, leaning down far across Robbie’s body to clamp his mouth around the omega’s shoulder, at that curve between neck and upper arm.

His wolf fangs appeared in his mouth and he bit down, piercing through skin, causing blood to surge up.

Robbie screamed, but not with pain. It was a scream of unity, a joy even more powerful than any orgasm.

As Ulysses bit Robbie, marking him, claiming him as his mate, their thoughts slid neatly together. They had been connected before but that bond paled in comparison to this, which was primal and so deep it was seemingly without end.

For a moment, or perhaps an eternity, they ceased to be two men tangled together in a bed.

Instead, they were wolves, one mottled gray and the other silver, racing with wild abandon across some unknown plain. And they were howling together, a song meant simply to express the joy of existing, of being as they were.

  Everything stopped.

Ulysses collapsed, remembering at the last moment to catch himself so he landed off to the side instead of directly on top of Robbie and the baby. Breathless, winded, feeling as if he really had gone on a journey across a dark landscape the likes of which could not be found in Pensacola, it was all he could do to keep from immediately collapsing into sleep.

Even so, for a time, it was like he ceased to exist. He shook. He breathed. He tingled deep in his groin where the aftershocks of orgasm had yet to fade.

He just didn’t think. There was no room for thoughts inside him, not yet.

Only when Robbie started to shift around was he capable of finding himself. The sounds of the omega guided him out of that unknowable place, gave him purpose. Gave him existence.

“Robbie?” Ulysses breathed, lifting up his head so he cou
ld look down at the omega. A pang of regret shook through him as he realized the damage he had inflicted with his marking bite. The wound was neat and tidy, perfectly shaped despite the smears of blood which covered Robbie’s skin. The blood was already dried, and the bite itself was already healing. If he watched, he would be able to observe the scabs forming, much in the same way as a person is able to see the minute hand on a watch move if they are observant enough.

Despite that, he felt bad for it.

But I don’t regret it. Not a damn bit.

After a couple heartbeats, Robbie opened his eyes. His gaze was filled with hazy satisfaction, like the kind a man experiences after a long night of refreshing sleep. “Ulysses?”

Ulysses let his head sink back down on the pillow, letting their noses touch. “I’m sorry.”

“For what?” Robbie muttered the words like he had no strength left, though his eyes were still wide open, as if drinking in the sight before him.

“I probably should have asked to mark you,” Ulysses grunted. He would have asked if he’d been thinking clearly, but the truth was that it had just happened out of nowhere. The urge came over him and he had taken what he wanted.

“No way,” Robbie said. He lifted up one arm as if to wrap it around Ulysses, to hold him in some manner, but all he ended up doing was flopping it across him. The pressure was just fine with him either way, comforting him somehow. “That’s just not like you.”

  “Maybe it should be.”

“You’re going to make me have this conversation when I can barely think?” Robbie flopped his other arm dramatically across his face. His hand whacked Ulysses on the cheek; rather than apologize, he took the happy accident as fate and stroked his fingers gently along Ulysses’ face, tracing the line of his jaw. “I like it when you’re assertive. Just not when you’re an ass to people who don’t deserve it. If you’re going to be my mate, you’re going to have to figure that out.”

Ulysses found himself smiling. He closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling of Robbie stroking him. “Will you help me with that?”

“You know how much I love to help.” A smile curved in Robbie’s voice, lifting up his words at the edges so they seemed to bounce as they left his mouth. “And is it okay if I love you?”

Ulysses felt, for just a moment, like his heart stopped. He was suddenly gripped by something overwhelming and fierce, which crashed over him like an ocean wave. It was a beautiful, tumultuous feeling that he slowly recognized as…

  Love.

He was tumbling, falling head over heels for this omega. The process had been set in motion quite some time ago but it was right now that things were snowballing, gathering weight and speed.

“You fucking better,” Ulysses said. “If you’re going to give birth to my pup.”

Robbie looked at him, his eyes as soft as a postcard-perfect sky. “Well, I do. I love you, Ulysses.”

And here was the moment that would make or break them.

  Ulysses knew his choice.

Reaching out, Ulysses grabbed onto Robbie and pulled him very close so their bodies lined up. Their legs tangled together. Their foreheads touched. And Ulysses spoke the words for the feeling of freefall inside him. “I love you, too.”

They lay together for several more long minutes, simply enjoying the other’s presence. The last miniscule bits of adrenaline drained away, allowing them to relax, their eyelids to droop.

Robbie was the first to give in to the temptations of sleep, soft snores pulling from between his lips almost as soon as his eyes closed all the way.

Resting his hand on his stomach, Ulysses allowed himself to follow.

For a few days, everything seemed more or less okay. Robbie scheduled an appointment with his regular doctor, who helpfully confirmed he was pregnant. He was given a referral to a shifter-friendly OB/GYN. Since he wasn’t a woman, a person with such a title would have been useless to him had they not had prior experience with male pregnancies.

The referral would take a few days to go through, at which point he would presumably be given a call by someone in the office at the location. In the meantime, he had pamphlets to read, information to start absorbing about what he was to expect from all of this.

Robbie had a number of years of experience with dealing with children, but he was completely in the dark as to how a baby developed. He had never really seen fit to study the subject before, as he naturally had no fetuses at his daycare. And, he discovered, his knowledge of the difficulties that actually came with being pregnant was rudimentary at best. Everyone knew about the weight gain, stretch marks, varicose veins, and the constant need to pee. These were the things that could be seen, played up for drama and laughs in movies and television.

There were a whole slew of other symptoms that he may or may not experience while his pup developed inside him, and they were a great deal more unpleasant than swollen ankles.

It was almost frightening, especially considering the potential severity. That was something else he knew, which was backed up by the information on the pamphlets he read. Some people went through their pregnancy with flying colors, racing from start to finish with no real overall changes to their person.

And others got hit with every single problem on this list, which took up the majority of the pamphlet space and was the focus of an entire different packet of papers that he’d been given.

Not only that, but he was a shifter. He was more than human, because he was wolf. Everything else about his life combined those two separate factors of his existence. He healed faster, was stronger, had more endurance, and his senses were just phenomenal in comparison with the average person.

His pregnancy would be no different. He would be dealing with the combined complications of wolf and man, and since wolves gave birth faster than humans, so would he.

Which meant the baby inside him would grow much faster, to be able to come out capable of surviving. He might give birth in half the time as a human, or only a month early. Either way, his body would have to deal with the increased strain of supporting a baby that would require even more of him than an average mother would have to give. After all, a baby couldn’t be made out of nothing. Its cells had to come from somewhere. It had to get nutrients and energy from somewhere.

  And that somewhere was him.

Therefore, the advice given to him was more. More rest, more food, more vitamins, more visits to the doctor.

All of it was so frightening, yet, at the same time, he felt so excited he just might pop.

It was difficult to contain his excitement in the face of people who would never understand. He still had to go to work each day, still had to be the boss in charge of two daycares. He had to attend meetings, fix problems, attend to the concerns of his caregivers and children alike.

Sometimes, it was easy. He could get lost in the paperwork, forgetting himself in the face of what was required of him on a daily basis.

Then, he would pause to think of a word, to consider something that had been said or done, and the lapse would allow all of his excitement to break through like water bursting past a destroyed dam.

A few of the caregivers noticed. He saw it on their faces that they did, although of course they said nothing aloud to him because he was still their boss.

The kids definitely noticed, because all children have somewhat of a survival mechanism that allows them to be adeptly knowledgeable about what adults are feeling. They sensed something was different about him, more open, and they took advantage of it. He allowed some of it to happen, though he completely refused to give them the satisfaction of running wild and free throughout the daycare.

And, of course, Aaliyah noticed. She was closest to him, knew him best, and his behavior was clearly too interesting for her to resist, although she tried.

For three days, she outlasted her curiosity.

Then, on the fourth, she gave in.

Robbie knew this was going to be the day because he could feel her w
atching him from the very moment she arrived at the building. She only watched, but her watching felt different to him than before. She was waiting. Observing him. Hoping for the right opportunity to go after him and make him spill his secrets.

If he acted like he knew what she was waiting for, if he made it clear he was going out of his way to avoid her attention, she was only going to realize how right she was to be curious.

He had no choice but to stick to his plans for the day, pretending everything was as normal as could be. He went back to his office exactly at the time as he normally would, with the plan in mind being to answer some correspondence.

Of course, he didn’t get very far before she arrived.

Robbie looked up before she even knocked, to find her standing in his office doorway. “Aaliyah,” he said, smiling at her. “To what do I owe this honor of seeing you?”

“Oh, be quiet,” she replied, narrowing her eyes at him. Of all the parts of her that were imposing and impressive, her eyebrows were quite high up there. They were large and full and well-trimmed, extremely expressive. She could do things with her eyebrows which were borderline magical, things Robbie had never imagined to be possible before. Right now, they were scrunched together and also somehow raised, expressing confusion and curiosity and interest all at once. “You know exactly why I’m here, Robbie.”

“Why don’t you go ahead and enlighten me?” he suggested. “So that way we don’t get off-topic.”

“You? Off-topic? Now, there’s an idea.” Aaliyah entered the office, reaching out to shut the door behind her. “I’d almost like to see that.”

Robbie didn’t respond. He saved a draft of the email he’d been typing up, then shut his laptop and pushed it off to the side. “How are things out there?”

“Everything is proceeding as it should. And I see what you did there. Very funny.” Aaliyah smiled. She placed her hands on top of the desk, then leaned over them. “So, what’s going on with you? You’re always positive, but for the past couple days you’ve just been on cloud nine.”
