Trouble Brewing
Page 22
I took a few sips of the amber ale before I noticed it. Something moving around at the bottom of the glass. Without thinking, I stuck my hand into the beer and fished it out. Confusion, surprise, and then elation all crashed onto me like my glass on the bar.
“Oh my God.”
Blake took the ring from my wet hand and bent down, drawing the attention of most everyone around us, but I couldn’t focus on anything other than the man staring up at me.
“Sunshine, you are the strongest woman I know and I couldn’t imagine my life without you in it. Will you marry me?”
I’d often thought about Oskar and how he affected me, and admittedly, he’d influenced my decisions for a while. I never thought I’d want to get married, or I thought that if I did, it wouldn’t happen for a very long time. But life had other plans.
Blake was my missing puzzle piece that made everything better. He was my lobster.
“Yes!” I yanked him up, kissing him everywhere. “Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.”
Applause roared around us, but all I heard was Blake saying, “I love you,” over and over again. Once I stopped jumping up and down, he slipped the ring on my fourth finger.
“I’m so shocked,” I said, placing my hand over my heart as it beat wildly. “I think I need a beer.”
Blake handed me a new beer. “On the house. I know the person who makes it.”
“Oh yeah?”
He nodded. “I like her. She’s pretty okay.”
A little laugh escaped me. I felt drunk.
Drunk in love.
