She seemed to have the same idea when she worked her arms from around his shoulders, down between their bodies. Her fingers brushed against his erection still encased in denim but she was working on getting her own jeans unfastened.

“Impatient much?” Jackson sat back on his haunches and popped the buttons on his fly.

“Something like that.” She moaned as he licked along the outer edges of her areolas. “When you kiss me or touch me in any way, yeah it’s definitely something like that.”

“Then let’s get you turned around and see what we can do about it.” Damn. He’d never seen a woman move that fast and couldn’t remember the last time anyone had wanted him so much. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d cared to notice.

She squirmed out of her jeans, pushing them to her knees. The action gave him a beautiful view of her wiggling hips and ass. She moaned when he helped lower her down to the straw covered floor.

“Careful baby. We don’t want to scratch those pretty tits.”

“Not going to. The roughness feels kinda good on them.”

“Still…” He whipped his head around, finally locating a blanket over a low stall divider. He grabbed for it, then laid it over the center of the hay. “Now, I can be sure you won’t have too many scratches or insect bites.”

  “Softie,” she reminded him.

Jackson spanked her bottom. A nice solid smack on her right cheek. “How’d that feel, Teach? Did that feel soft?”

“Lopsided is more like it,” she said with an accompanying wriggle of her behind.

“Can’t have that now, can we?” He gave her a mirroring smack on her left cheek, followed by another two. With the pop of each swat echoing in the small stall, Jackson got harder by the second.

Her behind was a pretty shade of pink and he before he lowered his jeans to his thighs, he fished a condom out of his pocket. He’d planned this, sort of. Not the hay bale exactly, but to make love to her out on the farm. Despite everything he’d been through with his father, Jackson loved this land and wanted to share it with her.

He tore the foil open and quickly rolled the sheath down, covering himself. Jeans down, hand around his cock, he dropped to his knees and lined the head up with her entrance. He didn’t even have to touch her to know she was wet and ready. He saw the moisture, felt the heat, could smell the headiness of aroused pussy. “Hold on, Teach,” he murmured.

Her hands wrapped around the ropes holding the bale together. Jackson drove forward, seating himself deep. His blood pounded and the squeeze of her cunt made his breath catch.

“Beneath that prim exterior, baby, you’re a dirty one.”

  “S-sorry.”

Jackson screwed his hips tight against her ass. “Don’t apologize for needing it as bad as you do. I like dirty. I like eager.” He draped himself over her back. “I like you. I like you beneath me. I like you on top of me. I like you spread and wet for me.”

Cass bucked into him like a wild filly and the way she slid herself along the hay, the way her hands gripped the ropes, her pretty tits and soft hands would be scratched and scraped, no matter the blanket he’d given her for protection.

But he let her fuck him. He let her set the pace she needed. He let her squeeze and choke the hell out of his dick as she writhed. Sweat streaked her back, a droplet ran in a stream down her spine and he licked at the salt of her skin.

He was along for the ride, even though he’d thought to be the one in charge. She had him, figuratively speaking, by the balls.

“Jackson,” she breathed his name and he pressed his lips to her ear.

  “I’m right here, baby.”

  “I need…”

He thought to tease her, to ask what she needed, but didn’t. He thought to prolong her need, to draw out her pleasure and his, but wouldn’t. Instead, he slid a hand beneath her, the back of it scraping the hay, the pads of his fingers seeking her clit. She writhed until they found the spot together.

“Not to be selfish, honey, but I’m not going to last much longer.”

  “Please.”

Jackson started to balk. He wouldn’t be able to hold off his own orgasm any longer than it took for her to scream his name and by the hitch in her breathing, he knew she wasn’t far off. He’d heard it often enough last night it was committed to memory. “Teach, I don’t think I can hold off. You’re ridin’ me to hell and back.”

  “D-don’t h-hold…”

Her words trailed off and her hips rocked, sliding her cunt along the length of his shaft and dear God, it felt fuckin’ good. The second he felt her walls contract, heard the hiss, saw the rigidity of her spine, and the tremble in her limbs, he took over and plowed into her. Hard. Fast. Deep as he could, still working her clit, drawing out the orgasm. He heard his name, as though from a distance, broken, and full of urgent need.

  He understood the feeling perfectly.

He’d let her fuck him, take from him, and now it was his turn. She still throbbed against him and he removed his fingers from between her legs, gripped her ass and lifted her slightly, and took the downward plunge. She hauled herself higher onto the hay bale. It didn’t take long. It didn’t take many strokes inside her depths. It didn’t take much more than a few labored breaths for the familiar and welcome tingling to work its way up his back, and down again. His balls tightened and emptied through his cock into the condom. His body jerked several times before he stilled and dropped forward onto her back. They both collapsed in a heap against the hay and stayed that way until he started to soften.

Jackson placed a kiss at the base of her neck. “If we needed showers before, Teach, we certainly need them now.”

  Chapter Five

“Have you ever thought to take some of what you bake out to your dad? Maybe he’d change his mind if he could taste just how good you are at what you do.” They were back in Jackson’s truck and on their way back to the city. After the barn incident… Incident? Was that was she was calling it? Really? Afterward, they’d put themselves back together and picked up Jackson’s order from the dairy store. It was a quaint, a place right out of the frontier. A weathered, one-room cabin with refrigerated cases along the back wall that housed all manner of dairy. Next to those sat a box freezer full of beef that had been raised on the ranch. Right outside, to the left of the building and bordering a small stream, was a small organic vegetable garden.

She wanted to spend days there, learning about living off the land.

“You met him, Cass. You really think he’d be impressed and proud of me if I brought him chocolate cupcakes? No. I don’t think so.”

  “It was just a suggestion.”

“It’s a waste of time trying to get the old man and me to see eye to eye. He isn’t willing to meet me halfway and I’m not willing to meet him all the way.”

  “Jackson, I ―”

  “No. Drop it, Teach.”

“So, let me get this straight. We can fuck. We can play bedroom games. We can talk about my issues, but we just have to gloss over yours? That’s not how these things work, Cowboy. The way I see it, both of you are stubborn and you each think you’re right, when in reality, both of you are wrong. I bet even Samantha sees it.”

The steering wheel shook when he slammed his palm against it. “Dammit, Cass. Yeah, we can fuck, as you so eloquently put it, and we can play around. We can even have a relationship, which I do want, by the way. All I’m sayin’ is don’t meddle in this. It’s a family thing. He and I are just fine with the way things are. No need to mess with it. We’re both happier this way. Trust me.”

Cass glared at Jackson’s profile. She wanted to be bothered and offended by his statement. They could…? What an ass. Too damn bad she was so in…in something with him. She wouldn’t give it a name, not right now. It would just piss her off more to admit it.

It was also way too damn bad they were so far from town or she’d walk back.

He was staring hard at the road in front of them. They were about twenty minutes from
the city limits, and it couldn’t pass soon enough. She wanted to smack him but at the same time, she wanted to smack herself. He was a mule of a man if ever there was one and getting personally mixed up with him was going to be one hell of a rollercoaster ride. Did she really want that in her structured, normal life?

  She was afraid she might…

“Might as well stop sulking Cass. I’m not going to change my mind.”

“No, you’re not. I’ve seen how you get when you dig your heels in. And I’m not sulking.”

“Good. Then why don’t you slide closer. I can’t reach you when you’re way over there.”

  “Nope.”

“What? Why?” He seemed genuinely confused but Cass didn’t feel sorry for him. Let him stay that way. She didn’t care. Much.

“Don’t meddle? It’s a family thing? Remind me not to open up to you again. Go to hell Jackson.”

“Dammit woman,” he ground out through a clenched jaw. She wanted to ease the tension with her fingertips, kiss the stubble he hadn’t shaved away. Mad or playful, determined or easy going, he was the hottest man she’d ever known. And when he slid his gaze in her direction, she wanted to slide on over so he could touch her, just as he’d asked a moment ago and. It took everything she had to resist the urge. “I didn’t mean it like that.”

She scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Sure sounded like it.”

“Then you heard wrong.” His belligerent tone did nothing to assuage the desire coursing through her. Him acting like this shouldn’t be turning her on, but then again, the man drawing breath turned her on.

“Dig that hole a little deeper.” Cass turned her head and watched the countryside as they sped past it. She loved Texas and she loved San Antonio and she was afraid she loved a stubborn jackass too. He could do things to her body no one else ever had. He made her laugh, and smile and confiding in him earlier had felt better than she’d expected. It had been a long time since she’d opened up about her failed business and she thought she and Jackson had started making a connection beyond the one they had sexually. Add to what they’d talked about last night, hearing about him, his history, how he got into baking, it was all the building blocks to a relationship and she was falling for him more and more with each passing second.

At the moment though, she wanted to kick him for his pigheadedness.

“C’mon, Cass, you know I don’t mean it like that.”

“Then how did you mean it? You told me I shouldn’t meddle and I wasn’t trying to. I was offering my opinion and some unasked for advice.” Technically that was meddling, but they didn’t need to get technical, did they? Nah. “I know better now.”

“I know you want to help. It’s what you do, but my relationship with my father doesn’t need your help. Now, if you have any ideas as to how to help Sam and the jerks tryin’ to take her store, I’m all ears and I’m sure she would be too. But my father and I… Just leave that alone.”

“Fine. Not another word about it.”

“It’s none of your concern, Cass,” he went on. “Nothing more than that. I’m sorry you had to see him today and feel you got dragged into it. I didn’t think he’d come out to the dairy. He usually avoids it when I’m there.”

She wanted to ask if he’d meant all that to sound the way it did, but opted for another tactic. One a little more childish, down on his present level, and it pissed her off that she would stoop. “Okay.”

“You know what I mean, right?”

  She nodded. “Sure.”

“There’s nothing to be done about it. He doesn’t want to understand what I do, so I’m not going to waste my time trying to convince him otherwise.”

  “Right.”

“He thinks he’s right and that I’m just an idiot. He still sees me as a kid. He treats Sam like an adult, but not me. I don’t know why not though. I’ve made my own way. I’ve got my own successful business. It might not be entirely conventional, but it’s mine and I built it. Why can’t he understand that and just be proud of me?”

Yeah, he was okay with the way things were. Couldn’t be more clear. “Understood.” She was tired of biting her tongue when there were so many other fun uses for it and unbidden thoughts of frosting and his hard cock floated through her mind. Oh yeah, so many other fun things to do with her tongue than trade barbs with him.

It had been same way when they were student and teacher. They got along best when his mouth was on hers and his tongue was down her throat silencing both of them save for their shared moans.

“What the fuck, Cass? Stop with the one word answers. You’re acting like…well, like you’re a sulking child not getting her way. I’m tryin’ to talk to you.”

That he called her on her behavior needled her in a way that wasn’t going to end well for him. He was allowed to point out her attitude problems at the moment but she wasn’t allowed to do the same. He was allowed to go on and on about a topic he didn’t want her input on but she wasn’t allowed to say anything? Ah hell no. “Stop the truck, Jackson.”

  “What?”

“Stop. The. Truck. You understand that, right?” He slammed on the brakes and sent dust flying. As soon as it settled, Cass was out and on the ground. She slammed the door behind her and stomped around to the driver’s side and opened Jackson’s door. “Get out.”

  “Cass?”

  “You heard me.”

She could tell by the look in his eyes, he was unsure about it, but he finally put the truck in Park and climbed down from of the cab. “I’m out. Now what?”

“Now you need to shut up. One more word and I’ll kick you.” It wasn’t much in the way of a threat, but she could never slap him.

“What is wrong with you woman?” For all his effort, he received a good, swift kick in the shin. He immediately pulled his leg up.

  “I warned you.”

  “Dammit.”

She kicked him in the other shin. Harder this time because he started hopping. It had to hurt with the point of a boot and she wanted to feel bad but she didn’t. Instead of kicking him again though, she poked him in the chest. With each connection of finger to chest plate, he took a step back and she advanced. “You said you didn’t want my opinion. You said it wasn’t any of my concern. You said I shouldn’t meddle. But you just kept going on and on about it, yet you didn’t like my one word answers. So, given that… Shut. Up.”

She had him pinned against the side of his old, dusty red pickup. It was good for ranch work and traveling down dirt roads filled with gravel and pebbles. It wasn’t pretty to look at, had some dents and dings, had some paint worn off in parts, but it fit him perfectly. Oddly enough, he wouldn’t have looked right driving a brand new, decked out model.

“I adore you, Jackson. I might even love you, but you’re an ass. You didn’t want my opinion? Well, settle back ‘cause you’re gonna get the full thing now. Your damn pride is in the way. You did the same thing to me you’re doing to your father. You wouldn’t bend, you wouldn’t try to see things from my point of view. Hell, you wouldn’t even return a phone call. Your ego is about the size of our great state of Texas and while at times it’s cute, right now it’s ridin’ hard on my last nerve.”

  “Cass —”

“Nope. My turn to talk. Your pride is killin’ your relationships. You claimed to want me, but you weren’t willing to come get me. You claim your father doesn’t understand, but you’re not willing to go show him, help him, or even try. You’re more concerned with showing him up, with showing him that he’s wrong and you aren’t even willing to consider that maybe you’re just as wrong here.”

  “Cass, I —”

“I said it’s my turn to talk.” She poked him in the chest again for emphasis. “You’re willing to bend over backward to help Sam and that’s so great, but maybe if you and your father work together, you can both help her and maybe in the process get somewhere with mending your relationship. Don’t you think it would be a good thing for her if the two of you could meet somewhere in the
middle and get along?”

  “You ‘bout done?”

He was calm. Why was he so calm? She was yelling at him, telling him off. Why wasn’t he riled up? “I-I think so.”

  “You think you love me?”

Cass lifted a brow and drew her leg back only to watch as Jackson shifted to the side. She did her best to hide her smirk. “Yes. Think being the operative word there.”

  “I’ll take it.”

“That’s what you got out of all that?”

  “A few bruises too.”

Cass threw up her hands. “I’m walkin’.” She turned on her heel and started off down the road. The man was enough to drive any sane woman crazy. Gorgeous as sin, but a pain in the —

“Cass, c’mon. You can’t walk all the way back,” he called out from behind her.

“Watch me,” she tossed over her shoulder. “Oh. And yes, I was acting like a child. Thank you for pointing it out. Now you know how it feels to deal with someone who acts like it most of the time.”

One foot in front of the other, she stomped her way down the dirt road. At any moment she expected to hear the truck advancing on her, but the more ground she put between her and Jackson, the more silent the air around her. She wanted to look around to see what he was doing, but she wasn’t going to give him that satisfaction. She wasn’t giving in this time. She wasn’t chasing him.

At the same time, she knew she was being stupid. She couldn’t walk all the way back into the city. She’d need a hospital by the time she reached the outskirts. Maybe someone would come along and take pity on her and give her a ride. Maybe someone would find her passed out body and pick her up and give her some cool water to flush out her dust-filled lungs. Maybe she should stop being so dramatic in her head and save the energy for the long trek in front of her.

Though her boots were comfortable, they weren’t the ones she’d have worn if she knew she’d have to make a stand like this. The jeans had been a bad idea in light of this too. No hat? Not a good thing in the Texas sunshine and she’d likely have a lovely start on a farmer’s tan by the time she made it home.
