“George Lee has a personal question.”
“Hey, George. Thank you for your service in the Army and the police force.”
“Will the current policemen and women join the current police force?”
“Yes George, as long as they can swear to enforce the laws of the community. As I said, except for the new legal business there won’t be much different for a lawman. I did fail to mention one thing. Illegal drugs will not be tolerated. I have never dealt with them nor will I allow them in our community. Alcohol and pot will be allowed, but we will make sure the weaker strain of marijuana is grown, so we don’t have a bunch of potheads wondering around in a fog.”
“Jill Black has a legal question.”
“Go Jill.”
“Tony, will we have judges and juries?”
“Not at first, but yes in the long run. Think of the next few months to a year being a national emergency with Marshal Law. If our police are fighting a gang away from our community, I expect them to not bring prisoners back. If George catches a thief, he will be tried by a jury of his peers and duly sentenced.
We won’t have a jail. Farm work and chain gangs will be the method we use to show them the error of their ways. Two crimes and they will be expelled from the community. No exceptions. Child rape, treason against the community, premeditated murder, and other heinous crimes will result in the convicted man’s choice of public hanging or a firing squad.”
Okay, that’s enough to give you a flavor of our community. I will allow you to come to our community and ask questions. Remember we are only three days old and have gone from a dozen people to almost 300 since the shit hit the fan. If you don’t join us, you can still live here and trade with us but remember if a gang attacks you and isn’t a danger to the community we won’t act against them.
Tony said goodbye to the crowd and led his team away headed back to his new home when a man approached him.
“Mr. Mongolusio, I am a beer distributor, and my warehouse is a block away from your community. I want to join your team and apply for the job of managing the beer distribution for the community.”
“Great, see the man shaking George’s hand. Go see him. He is the man to impress. I like your initiative.”
“Mr. Mongolusio, darling, we need to talk.”
The woman was in her forties and had a bit too much makeup on. There were several young ladies behind her as she approached.
“Mr. Mongolusio about the legalization of prostitution.”
Tony’s face turned beet red as Amy and Max stifled back laughter and Tony replied, “Go see that man. His name is Oscar, and he will know how to handle you. Oops. Work with you.
The woman gave Tony a hug and left to see Oscar with the bevy of ladies on her heel.
Tony walked over to Max and Amy, “Shut the fuck up. I like the money from that sort of business, but it creeps me out.”
Amy replied, “Funny you didn’t jump away when she had her hand on your crotch.”
“Asshole! Go find someone to kill or just mind your own damn business.”

Amy drove Max back to the warehouse alone with them talking like friends who hadn’t seen each other in a long time. They told each other their life histories, and Amy was very forthcoming with the topic of their love lives and special friends came up.
“My girlfriend is a self centered spoiled brat, and I was leaving her when I got back from this trip,” Max exclaimed.
She replied, “If I had a nickel for every time a man told me that while trying to stick his hand down my pants I’d be a millionaire,” as she slapped her hand on his inner thigh and slowly drug her hand back.
He flipped her loose hair up and let it fall on her cheek, “Well Miss Baker, tell me about your boyfriend.”
Amy was suddenly quiet and non responsive. She finally murmured, “He was a real dick. He slapped me around one too many times, and he disappeared.”
Max thought quickly, “I call bullshit on that. You made that up to get me to stop asking about your love life. You are very attractive; at least you would be if you wore a bit of makeup and fixed your hair in anything but a bun. I don’t know who hurt you, but I think you still have a thing for him. If he ever hurts you again, I’ll kill him.”
“Amy laughed and replied, “You said him. What if it’s her?”
Max about lost it, chuckled, and replied, “Hey, anything that floats your boat. Who am I to judge? I like women so if you like women just stay away from mine.”
Amy pulled down a side road and brought the old truck to a halt, got out and climbed into the bed of the truck with a blanket in her hand. Max got out and watched her strip her clothes off. She had a beautiful body under those men’s clothes.
His face turned red as he asked, “What are you doing?”
Amy was naked standing in the bed of the truck and replied “Max, I like you but sometimes you are dummer than Owl shit,” then she said in her most sexy voice, “ Come on up here and see if I like women more than men.”
Max stripped down and climbed into the bed of the truck with Amy. She was much softer than he imagined in his dreams.
Amy woke up a few hours later to the sound of gunshots not too far away. She peeled herself off Max as she shook him awake.
“Wake up big boy. There is some shit going down back home. Put your clothes on and let’s roll.

Mack Norman
I was born in Eight Mile, Alabama not too far from The University of South Alabama. I played football and baseball in high school but was never great at sports. I joined the Army after high school and became a mechanic and worked at several base motor pools around the country. I eventually became a Seargent over maintenance of light vehicles. I now live in northern Alabama and own a small auto repair shop close to Muscle Shoals. My interests are fishing, hunting, and hiking with my girlfriend, Jill, and of course writing excellent science fiction novels.
