G-Force (Book 1): G-Force

She swam all the way to the bottom of the pool and arched her body to swim for the side of the column. She began to exit the water and fell onto the shallow bottom of the pool. Now out of the missing gravity field, she was spared being lifted right back up to the ceiling.

“Run to me Charlene,” Seth said to her forcefully. “Hurry up!”

She got up and ran through the knee-deep water to the side of the pool and jumped up catching the edge of the pool. She pulled herself out and stood up. Totally exhausted, she still refused to give in and ran to Seth as fast as she could get there.

“Hug me Charlene! Wrap your arms around me and hold on as tight as you can!” She did so without question as she saw how this strange turn of events seemed to be being controlled by Seth. Her wet swimsuit soaked his dry clothing as she held on tight.

With her arms around him he lifted them both off the floor. “Hold on tight! Don't let go of me for any reason!” He yelled to her. His arms were wrapped around her in a tight grip as they continued to climb into the air. The ceiling and roof were totally open above them where the roof had torn loose from the walls. He lifted them higher and higher until they slipped between the roof and the wall and were clear of the building. Then with a massive sigh of relief, he let go of the heavy weight that had been draining him dry. The roof below them collapsed into the pool at the same time that the water column rushed back down hitting the pool’s bottom and splashed outward with a mighty force. The sound of the steel beams hitting the cement structure of the pool made a loud clanging noise unlike anything Seth had ever heard before.

Charlene clung to him as tight as she could, and when the crises was over, and he was not holding up the weight of the water and roof anymore, he felt strength returning to him enough to allow him a few more minutes of gravity modification. She looked up at him and asked. “How did you do this Seth Collins?”

“Long story. I promise to tell you. But for now, we're safe. Look around Charlene. Look how beautiful it is from up here.” This time, the girl he held suspended in the air did not panic, and he did not drop her.

“She looked up at him again and said, “Take us up higher.”

He laughed and kept them climbing until they were far above the whole city. Far above the height he had taken Sherry. Lights were coming back on that had gone out during the earthquake. Far below them people were running around looking for loved ones and checking damaged cars and houses.

But up where Seth and Charlene were, everything was peaceful. This was the most peaceful moment Brad could ever remember in his life. They kissed while floating in the air. Brad had never been kissed before. He kissed her long and tenderly. She looked at him when she pulled back for a breath of air and a sigh. Her eyes were sparkling. She was smiling in the most contented, loving way he had ever seen a person look. Then he was asking her if she would marry him. He could not believe such words had slipped from his lips! But then, he knew he meant it with all his heart. It would be one of the shortest courtships in history, he was sure, but he also knew that he loved her.

She answered him with a resounding yes. They both tipped their heads back and laughed in sheer joy. They kissed again and Seth began to notice how good her bare back felt under his touch. He could see such light in her eyes. He felt an overpowering desire to protect her and defend her for the rest of his life, just like he had done a few minutes ago.

Charlene still did not understand how Seth was doing this miraculous thing, but she didn't feel like she needed an explanation right now. What they were experiencing was enough. Soon her wet swimsuit had her shivering in the cool night air. Seth felt her body trembling.

He began to lower them back to the earth, He hoped there would be a long night of dating...unless others less fortunate needed their help. When they were just above the damaged gym and pool, he put some gravity into a massive oak tree that was forty feet away and pulled them away from above the gym. Then he slowly, gently lowered them to the ground. “Are you ready for a long story?” He asked her as they touched down.

  Epilogue

Seth and Charlene Collins continued to attend school together until they both graduated. Their marriage was kept low key. Seth did not want to draw attention to himself allowing his old enemies to find him. She never did take a job after graduation. Her education would have allowed her to make big money, but she decided to stay home and take care of their precious little baby. Seth could work his way up in the corporation he went to work for and they would be just fine financially.

They were happy, well adjusted, and fully trusting of each other. Seth loved it when his parents had been able to come out for a visit. He could not forget the loving look in his mom's eyes as she held her first grandson. His father fully retired from the Department of Defense. With his time in the Intelligence world and then with DOD, he had been able to secure an adequate pension. His mom still dealt in real estate.

It was when their little boy, Steve was about a year old that they were surprised by the phenomena they saw in his bedroom one night. As they walked arm in arm toward their bedroom, they peeked in on little Steve. There he was, sound asleep. Content. But they did not in the least expect to see him hovering above his crib! His blankets were still on him drooping down to the crib and several objects in the room were floating 1 or 2 feet off the floor. But Stevey was fine.

With wonderment and awe, they looked at each other then hugged. “We'll have to teach him at an early age to be wiser with this power than his father was,” Charlene said to Seth.

Seth heartily agreed. He would not want his little one to go through the hell he had been through because of this power. He remembered Milo Weathers, Jeff, Sherry, and Dan Rowley. He thought about Sherman Greene and Simon Holmes and Mack Rowley. He did not want his son to ever go through anything like he had been through. It would take some wisdom and careful planning on his and Charlene's part to protect their son from himself and others.

“I didn't think that you would genetically pass this ability on,” Charlene told him.

“I didn't either.” Seth (Brad Shaw) Collins said to his beloved. “I'm glad in a way and also fearful.”

“I agree a hundred percent,” Charlene responded.

A month after that, they heard little Steve crying in his room, and Charlene got up to go comfort him. Just as she reached the bedroom doorway, she saw her little boy rise up out of his crib, and extending his arms toward her, he reached for her the way a drowning person would reach for anything in the water to save them. The child's overextended reach grasped at her, instinctively pushing gravity into her, he began to float toward his mom. She was pulled toward him by the gravity he was emitting so he could move toward her. At about the middle, they reached each other. She wrapped her arms around him and held him close as he instinctively stopped using the g-force to draw them close together.

She pulled him back and looked at him in wonder. “You're going to be far more capable then even your father is,” She observed. Seth loved to toss his son in the air to get him giggling and squealing. He stopped doing it when little Steve stopped coming back down.
