  My Dead Son

  Austin, Texas

My wife and I had three boys and two girls. My oldest is 16, then two 13 year-olds, one 10, and the youngest 8. We just moved into a new house because our 10 year old was very sick, and he needed to be closer to the hospital.

A month after we moved in our young 10 year old passed away (he had cancer). My family was in tears for months.

A year after he passed, I was walking by all of my kids' rooms to make sure they were asleep. I walked by Brendan's room (he was the son that had passed), and I looked inside, pretending he was still in there sleeping. A light turned on and I heard Brendan calling for me. All he said was, "Daddy, where are you?" Not believing this, I assumed it was my 8 year old calling me from down the hall, so I walked over but he was fast asleep.

"Strange," I whispered to myself and walked past Brendan's room, but the light was off. I took it as my mind playing tricks on me and went to bed.

Next week, same day, same time, I was walking up the stairs when I saw Brendan standing there with his arms out as if he wanted a hug. I cried and said, "Come here, give Dad a hug." He didn't move. I put my arms down and walked up to where he was, but by the time I got there he disappeared.

I told my wife and she told me that I was still upset and didn't want to accept that Brendan was gone.

I fell asleep, and that night my bedroom door opened and I heard footsteps coming down into my room. I sat up but nothing was there.

Two years went by from this happening, so I finally convinced my wife that we should move because this house had too many bad memories.

So we all got packed up and we put all the boxes in the moving truck. My family took the car so we didn't have to sit in a moving truck, and as I looked outside the car window to say goodbye to our house, I saw Brendan in the window, hands on the glass, and he had tears rolling down his cheeks.

I blew a kiss and we drove away.
