Be the Blessing

Page 7

by Paula Mowery

Explain in your own words why you must have love first and foremost before you can have compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness.

  Session 3

Addy thought she knew what God was doing, but things didn’t work the way she planned. Sometimes God has different plans for us. Have you experienced this before? Explain.

  Read Proverbs 3:5-6

What can be gleaned from these verses when we’re not sure about our plans?

God is already in our tomorrows. The book of Jeremiah tells us He knows the plans He has for us. Are you trusting the One who is all-knowing and wants the best for you? Form a prayer asking God to help you to trust Him with your whole heart.

  Session 4

Because Addy listened to the “nudge,” she’s in a place to serve/bless a sister in Christ when it is needed. Staying attuned to the Spirit can avail us to “nudges” from God. Do you have an example of a “nudge” you heeded? Explain.

Is there anyone who is an example of being a blessing to you?

  Read Ephesians 5:15-17

What instruction is given in these verses?

List some ways you can make the most of every opportunity to serve or bless another person in Jesus’ name.

Do you know what the Lord’s will is for you? If you are unsure, He says in Scripture that you can ask for the wisdom that you lack.

  Session 5

Addy makes a mistake. In her mind, to become a better Christian there is a list of characteristics to attain and check off. Conrad is quick to correct her by informing her that being a Christian isn’t what you do but who you are. What does this mean to you?

Have you struggled with this idea before?

  Read 1 Peter 3:8-12

What do these verses say should characterize a Christian?

Which of these characteristics do you struggle with? Harmony? Being sympathetic? Loving? Compassion? Humility? Do you repay evil for evil? Do you give insults for insults?

  Session 6

God stretches Addy by urging her to become the devotion leader at the Pregnancy Crisis Center. What “stretches” has God asked of you?

God doesn’t always call the equipped, but He does equip the called.

  Do you agree? Explain.

  Read 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

What do these verses say as to God’s call on a person’s life?

  Session 7

Addy is called upon to be a blessing despite the fact she is diagnosed with cancer. She wonders why this is happening to her. Then, she sees the example of Job. She has to trust God completely.

Has something happened to you that caused you to ask: “Why me?” Explain.

What do these passages say about suffering?

  Read 1 Peter 3:13-14

  Read 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

  Read Psalm 34:18-19

  Session 8

Addy is blessed by others—Emily, Elianna, and even Beatrice. Have you been the recipient of blessing from others?

  Read Romans 5:3-5

Why can we rejoice in suffering according to these verses?

  Read 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

After reading these verses, write out verse four here:

God comforts us in our troubles, so we can do what for others?

  Session 9

Addy meets Julie, who is bitter about her cancer. She feels she’s being punished and is angry with God. Have you or anyone you know been angry with God about the circumstances? Explain.

“God uses situations of our lives to get our attention.”

  Do you agree? Personal story?

  Read 1 Corinthians 15:58

What does this verse mean to you?

  Session 10

Addy is given the opportunity to lead Julie to Christ.

  Read Romans 8:28

Write this verse here, meditating on its meaning.

  Read 1 Peter 3:15

When opportunities to share come our way, what does this verse say we should do?

  Read 2 Corinthians 5:20

What does this verse mean in your own words?

  Session 11

Conrad tells Addy she looks more like Jesus. Has anyone ever asked what’s different about you? What did you tell them?

  Read 2 Corinthians 3:18

Do you continue to become more like Christ? If so, how? If not, write a plan here for becoming more like Christ.

Becoming Christ-like is an ongoing process not complete until we enter Heaven.

Pray that God will lead you in this worthy pursuit.

  Session 12

Now Addy is to pass on what she has learned to others.

  Read Matthew 28:19-20

These are still our “marching orders” today. How are you witnessing to others and making disciples?
