“I am looking forward to your party, girl. It’s been awhile since I just sat back and had a good time with friends and family besides out at a club or something. I hope everybody gets along,” I said.
“They will or their ass will have to leave. I will not allow any drama at my house. But I don’t think we’ll have that problem, I really don’t. All of us are cool with each other and there won’t be any reason to argue. It’ll be a little different with Jay not being there, but I’m not feeling him anyway so that won’t even been an issue.”
“Yeah, Ciara is looking forward to your party too. It’ll be the first time she’s done something just for fun since the whole messy break up. And girl, how about Tyler told me that now all Jay can talk about is Ciara? I guess he figured out that the grass wasn’t greener over there with girlfriend number two, but at least he’s not bothering Ciara. She doesn’t need him or his drama. The one thing that I do wish is that she knew he does think about her. She feels like he just moved on and never gave her a second thought. A part of me thinks she should know that as fucked up as it was, he still cares a lot about her. What do you think?”
“Child please, do you really have to ask me that? Fuck whatever feelings Jay has! If he would’ve kept his dick in his pants there would be no need for Ciara to question whether or not he cares about her. The only thing that would come from Ciara knowing that Jay still has feelings for her is the chance that she might start considering taking him back. I, for one, do not want to see that happen. The way Jay went about things was all wrong. If he really said the things you told me he said, then why in the hell would she even consider taking his ass back? Hell no! If Jay wanted her to know what he was thinking, then he’d tell her himself. Fuck him!”
Deep down I knew Ayanna was right and I told her that. She was getting too riled up at the moment though.
“Okay okay damn. She probably doesn’t want to hear anything about him anyway right now but you’re going to have to calm down before you bust a blood vessel,” I said, trying to add a little humor to lighten the mood.
“You’re right. His ass ain’t worth all that anyway,” Ayanna laughed, trying to lighten the mood.
I smiled at her and pushed her a little. She was my girl through and through and nothing would ever change that.
“Girl, let’s get this stuff home and get you a drink because you are pretty hostile today,” I joked.
“I know. I’m sleep deprived for one thing. Ever since I told Mario we needed to take some time apart, he’s been calling and texting at all times of the night. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings and just end it harshly so I tried the sensitive route. He isn’t taking the hint at all.”
“And what about Dre?” I was asking because she still hadn’t told me anything about him.
“Oh I kept messing around with Dre for a little while longer and then I told him it was never a good idea for us to hook up in the first place. He seemed to agree with me. He said it was cool and that he understood. We haven’t really talked much since then. I’m not sure why his cousin can’t take the same hint.”
“Are you serious, Ayanna? Mario doesn’t get it because he was really into you. Dre was cool to back off because what y’all had was fun, spontaneous, and even a little bit dangerous because if Mario knew he would’ve flipped on both of you. There is a big difference, and I know you know that Ayanna.”
“I do, trust me. But still, I didn’t want to hurt Mario’s feelings like this. I keep thinking with time he’ll get over it and move on. I hope so anyway.”
“He will. Just give him some time. Alright now, let’s get to this monster line so we can pay for all this stuff and get out of here. I feel like I’m breaking out in hives with all these people around me.”
“Eva, you are one dramatic chick when you want to be,” Ayanna laughed.
We hugged and say our goodbyes. Friendship is something that can’t be bought and it can’t be pretend. I love my two best friends to the moon and back. Deep down I know they love me just the same.
Chapter 19
On the way home, I called Tyler and asked him to meet me at my house. Then I noticed I had two missed calls, one from Ciara, and one from Ayanna. They’d both left messages. I listened to the first message. It was Ciara and she sounded frantic.
“Eva! This muthafucka is crazy. He keeps calling me, and then he showed up here banging on the door but I refused to let him in. The only way I got him to leave was by saying I was going to call the cops. And to make matters worse, I’ve been getting calls at all times of the night from unknown numbers. When I answer, they always hang up. I’m sick of this shit and I’m going to do something about it. Call me.”
Whoa!
I tried to call her back but got no answer so I left a message for her to call me ASAP. Then I listened to the second message.
“Eva. I am at a loss for words. My place, it’s….Ma’am. I’m going to have to ask you to hang the phone up please….Look Eva, I gotta go but please call me as soon as you get this message!”
Damn! What is going on with my girls?
I was about to call Ayanna when my phone buzzed and it was a text from Tyler saying he was coming over if I was at home. I told him that I was on my way and that I was leaving the door unlocked so he could just let himself in. As I showered, I thought about my girls and tried to figure out what the hell was going on. Everything seemed so out of order and it made no sense at all. I decided that after I got out of the shower I was going to call both Ciara and Ayanna to find out why they both sounded like they were on the brink of nervous breakdowns.
As I washed my hair, I leaned back and let the water run down my face. I closed my eyes as a calm was beginning to come over me. Just as I was about to reach up to get my towel, I felt a cold blast of air suddenly. Before I could turn around, I heard a voice from behind me.
“Damn, don’t stop on my account.”
I jumped and then slipped and fell backwards hitting my head on the shower wall. If Damien hadn’t grabbed me, I would’ve fell completely out of the shower and really hurt myself. Once I gathered my composure, I pushed Damien away from me and reached for my towel. He snatched it up before I could.
“Damn it Damien, what the hell are you doing here? How did you get in?” I screamed, momentarily forgetting that I’d left the door unlocked.
“Well I was knocking for awhile and I didn’t hear anything so just by chance I tried the door and it was unlocked so I came on in,” he said calmly.
“As if you had the fucking right! Get out!” I screamed.
“Now you don’t really want me to leave and you know it.”
“You arrogant bastard, what part of ‘I don’t want you’ don’t you get? I have a man now, a real man, and he’s on his way here now so I suggest you leave because we’ve already established that you don’t want no problems with him.”
Damien chuckled and said, “Man, fuck that dude! Like I give a fuck about him! I’m here because this is where I belong and you know that. You are going to quit fighting the inevitable. Bring yo ass here!”
Before I had a chance to move, Damien grabbed me by the arm and pulled me into him. Then he started kissing my neck and rubbing all over me. I was swinging and trying to kick him in his damn balls, but he kept moving.
“What the fuck?” It was Tyler and he did not look happy at all.
“Tyler! Get this fool off of me please!” I yelled.
Damien let go of me and turned around to face Tyler. Before he had a chance to say anything, Tyler punched him so hard I thought his head was about to snap off. When Damien realized what hit him, he charged at Tyler and the two of them went at it.
In between my screams, I managed to rush past them to grab my phone. I dialed 911 and told them someone had forced their way into my home. I grabbed my robe and tried unsuccessfully to get them to stop fighting. Tyler was showing Damien no mercy. Even though I felt this idiot deserved it, I didn’t want Tyler to get himself into any trouble behind his stu
pid ass.
“Tyler, please! The police are on their way. He’s had enough now! Please stop baby!”
“Nah, Eva he needs to know I ain’t having this bullshit! Get yo ass up!”
Damien let out a painful yell as Tyler jerked him up from the floor. He dragged him into the living room. Around about that same time, we heard the police bang on the door. I ran to open it and heard a click. With my hand on the door, I turned to see that somehow Damien had managed to get his hands on a gun. I didn’t even know he had one.
“Yeah muthafucka, now what? Talk that shit now, playa!” Damien was yelling as he spit out blood.
“Oh you gonna shoot me now? Well you betta make it a good shot, homeboy! If you don’t, I’m comin for yo ass,” Tyler said calmly. He wasn’t fazed at all but I was about to lose it.
“Damien! Listen, put the gun down! None of this would’ve happened if you hadn’t come in here in the first place,” I said as I yanked the door open. The police came in full force, all guns pointed at Damien.
“Put the gun down, son!” one officer yelled.
“Yeah, put the gun down, boy,” Tyler taunted Damien.
“Tyler, shut up please! Damien, please listen to the police. Put down the gun. You know this isn’t you,” I cried, hoping I could get through to him.
Damien started to cry. He hit himself in the head with the gun a few times and then pointed it back at Tyler. It looked like he was falling apart. I had never seen Damien this way before. I had no idea he had these kinds of tendencies.
“Eva, this is all your fault! All you had to do was come to your senses and come back to me. You know you don’t love this dude. It’s going to always be you and me, you know that. If you can’t see that then I guess I need to remind you,” Damien said and then he pulled the trigger.
I screamed and heard several other guns explode. Everything started happening in slow motion. In the midst of it all, I passed out.
