“I want beef and broccoli and your mama wants orange chicken and rice!” I told Kenjay. I’m over at his mother’s house going over the details for my baby shower that’s coming up within a week.

“Yo, you don’t need to be eating that shit! Every time you eat Chinese food you get heart burn!” he fusses.

“Just bring the damn food, shit!” I snapped on him. I love Kenjay a lot! Maybe, even too much but he is a complete ass at times.

“Don’t forget my eggrolls!” Tammy shouts out from the kitchen.

“Y’all getting on my fucking nerves! You better not tell my mother what I just said, neither!” he said laughing.

“How long, Kenjay? I’m hungry!” I said to him.

“I don’t know! Damn, why couldn’t you just get it delivered? You called me ten times and texted me telling me it’s an emergency. I’m thinking something wrong with my seed or some shit! Y’all driving me fucking crazy! Stay away from my mama from now on! She rubbing off on you!” he said and I laughed. I had him on speakerphone.

“I hear your yellow ass talking shit, nigga! I didn’t tell you that shit when you used to call me twenty times wanting me to fix your slanted-eye ass some dinner! Now Latavia cooking your dinner, so you getting brand new on your mama!” Tammy shouts.

“You got me on speakerphone? I keep telling you about that shit! Mama, I love you! I don’t know who that nigga was that was talking that shit! Want me beat his ass for you?” Kenjay asked, making me laugh.

“Just be here in an hour!” she said to him.

“Alright, Ma!” he said, hanging up.

“I should’ve gotten that boy’s head checked out after I dropped him! I don’t know what’s going on with him! I could’ve been rich by now with all those SSI checks I could’ve gotten!” she said.

“You always say that. Did you really drop Kenjay?” I ask her.

“Yes, I did! He was two months old and I had some Wild Irish Rose. I was hanging out with my sisters and my mother said she wasn’t going to change him and that she was tired. So, I was tore up trying to change him. Girl, I woke up slumped over the changing table and Kenjay was on the floor, sleep. I thought he was dead! My mama walked into the room and whipped my ass something terrible! I passed out from all of that liquor and weed that I had! My mama isn’t black but she has a black woman’s soul! She stayed whipping our asses!” she said and I shook my head. Tammy is one ghetto-ass mama!

Tammy is a beautiful woman. She looks like she could be in her early thirties instead of her forties. She has a short haircut and it’s dyed blonde. She has a flat face and slanted eyes. Her mother is white and Vietnamese and her father is black. She and Kenjay both have those Asian eyes and light skin. Kenjay is actually pretty! I have never come across a man that was pretty and still masculine. He is very unique.

“I think Kenjay is up to something. He is always busy and I have to call him at least twenty times before he answers. I just pray to God he isn’t selling drugs. He told me he quit but I feel like he is lying to me!” I said putting my hand over my stomach as my son kicked.

“I don’t know what to tell you. But, you young girls kill me with this mess. Y’all meet a guy, have unprotected sex with them, let them buy you cars, take you on trips and shopping. He’s good enough for that but as soon as that pregnancy test pop up positive y’all want them to change. I do agree that a man should want to change his life when a baby is involved. But I also think that you need to take someone’s life into consideration before you have unprotected sex. I don’t like the fact that Kenjay sells drugs. But a man does what he wants and Kenjay is one of them,” she said and I roll my eyes.

“You can roll your eyes all you want to! I’m being honest with you because I love you and there is no other woman out here that can have my son’s heart! But you knew who he was and how he was, so if he is still doing that don’t just be mad at him but at yourself too! You laid down with him, shit!” she said. The doorbell rang then Tammy got up to get it. I went into the kitchen to fix me a sandwich until Kenjay got here.

I heard arguing and screaming. I got ready to walk out and a figure was backing Tammy into the kitchen with a gun pointed to her head.

“Stay back, Latavia! Calm down!” she said reading my mind. I’m ready to go into labor early because this is not something you see every day.

“Where the fuck is Kenjay?” the voice asked. I couldn’t make out the face because they had a hat on with a hoodie pulled over it. I could tell it was a woman. I know this bitch wasn’t asking for my man!

“I don’t fucking know! Now, get the fuck out of my house!” Tammy said.

The voice laughed then took her hoodie and hat off.

“Bitch, is you crazy?” I asked Janae. It was a rhetorical question because everyone knows her ass is crazy. I saw her on the news. She killed two men and assaulted a detective. They had her on breaking news a few months back.

“Look what we have here! Are you pregnant?” she asked walking closer to me and I backed up.

She pointed her gun at me. Out of the corner of my eye I see Tammy reaching for her skillet out of the sink. Janae followed my eyes.

  POW!

She shot at Tammy, I screamed. Half of Tammy’s beautiful face was blown off.

“I didn’t like his mama anyway!” she said smiling at me then caressed my face.

“What’s the matter, Latavia? You not happy to see me?” she asked then I smacked her hand away.

“Get the fuck away from me!” I told her.

“It’s been a very long time since I saw you! You acting brand new now like you forgot about me! You are a big-time stylist now! Months ago you acted like you didn’t know who I was! Does Kenjay even know about you?” she asked me laughing as tears ran down my face.

“Shut the fuck up!” I told her.

“Why are you running from that? Your ass was in the same mental kid’s hospital when we were younger. Does Kenjay know his baby mama is bipolar? I have to give it to you, though. You look normal but I can see it in your eyes that bitch is ready to come out!” she said.

I met Janae at a mental hospital when I was ten years old. I had episodes when I was younger where I would go into deep depression for any reason. I would just cry and sometimes I would throw things around the h
ouse. My parents didn’t know what was going on with me until they took me to the doctor and I was referred to see a psychiatrist. On the days that I went, Janae would be there also. She and I used to talk and she told me she heard a voice in her head turning her into a bad person.

I didn’t want to tell Kenjay about her because I didn’t want to explain how I knew her. As long as I take my pills I don’t have episodes. I never talk about my problem because I just want to be treated like everyone else. I would run people away if they knew I have bipolar disorder.

“You are really fucking crazy!” I told her and she laughed.

“Bitch, don’t get cute! You are too!” she said.

“Bipolar and Schizophrenia are two different fucking illnesses! You simple, crazy bitch! Now, get that fucking gun out of my face!” I told her.

“You can tell something is wrong with you! Who talks shit with a gun to their face?” she asked me.

“Why are you here? What the fuck do you want Janae?” I replied.

“It’s fucking Carla! I’m here because Kenjay set me up! Those two bodies they found was all on him! He did this shit to me! Do you know what they did to me in that facility? Do you know what it feels like to be raped and no one believes you because they know you have a problem! The shit they do to women in there is horrifying!” she yelled then started crying.

“Your nigga did that to me! Do you know I was pregnant when I went in there? I was slipped an abortion pill! I was a fucking threat to my own baby! It’s all of Kenjay’s fault!” she said with tears running down her face.

“They are going to come and look for you!” I said and she laughed this crazy laugh.

“Honey, that hospital is burned down to the ground! There is a dead nurse in my bed that is so damn crispy if they cut her open to do an autopsy she will fall apart! For all they know it could be me!” she said laughing hysterically.

I pushed her then she droped the gun. She sent a powerful kick to my stomach.

“You know I was thinking about telling Kenjay about your condition. But I’m not going to tell him because after I get finished with you, he will see for himself! I want that bitch to have a miserable life before I take him out! By the time I get finished with him, he is going to kill himself!” she said hitting me in the face. I charged into her, slamming her on top of the kitchen table, crashing my fist into her face. A sharp pain shot through my back making me fall onto the floor immediately.

“YOU BITCH!” I said as I felt another sharp pain. She rolled off the table crawling to her gun. I had enough strength to grab one of her legs, pulling her towards me but she kicked me in the face, crushing my nose. She got a hold of her gun.

“Tell that nigga I’m going to come for him, and when I do, it’s going to be hell! He wants to play, tell him the game just started! Carla is coming for his ass!” she said pulling the trigger three times into my stomach.

She took her hands smearing them into Tammy’s blood then wiped something on the wall. My breathing slowed and my eyes got heavy. Another sharp pain came from my stomach with so much force that it took everything out of me. I placed my hands on my stomach. I know my baby is dead and now I’m ready to join him.

  Kenjay

I was on my way home from meeting with my connect to re-up. Latavia thinks a nigga quit but truth is I didn’t quit. I’m addicted to this shit! I got that stupid bitch Janae good! My fingerprints were never on the gun because I had a fake layer of skin on my hands from the costume store Beans put me onto. Janae’s crazy ass ended up in a mental institution.

I am opening up a few restaurants to throw Latavia off because she keeps questioning my ass about shit. My son will be here in five weeks and a nigga can’t wait. At first I didn’t want any kids but now I’m more excited than she is.

I stopped to grab her and my mother some Chinese food since Latavia is over her crib. They’ve been tight as hell lately but I’m not complaining. I love the bond she has with ma dukes. When I gets to my mother’s house the lights are off but Latavia’s Audi is in the driveway and so is my mother’s Lexus.

I used my key but the door was already unlocked. I turned on the light and it was quiet.

I called their names but they didn’t answer. I pulled my gun out of my pants because some shit was off. I walked into the kitchen turning on the light and got the shock of my life.

My mother was laying on the floor with half her brain hanging out and Latavia was laying by the kitchen table bleeding out. Tears fell down my eyes. Blood was everywhere!

“Kenjay,” Latavia whispered weakly and I ran to her, cradling her.

“Hold on, baby! Hold on!” Tears fell from her eyes and mine. I could feel her life slipping away from her. I got my cell phone out and something caught my eye on the wall.

“Carla was here!” was smeared across the wall in blood.

Five minutes later paramedics and the police came barging into the house. Latavia was still breathing lightly but my mother was gone. Half of her beautiful face was blown off. My chest tightened up and my eyes burned with tears. They hurriedly took Latavia away and I could hear them say she was going into labor. They were asking me questions as I walked over to my mother’s body. I knelt down beside her, pulling her closer to me. I cradled her into my chest as I sobbed. The coroners came in and they couldn’t get me off of her. This bitch killed my ma dukes!

“Sir, you have to let her go! This is a crime scene!” one of the officers said but I shook my head, rocking her. It takes an army to get me off of my mother. She couldn’t even have an open casket.

I finally let her go then walked straight out. They kept asking me questions but I couldn’t answer them. I sped to the hospital with images of my mother popping up into my head and the sound of her voice on the phone just an hour ago. Who would’ve thought that was the last time I heard her voice?

I rushed to the E.R. and this bitch is on her phone while I’m asking for Latavia.

“She is not in the system yet!” she says texting away smiling and blushing at her screen.

I took her phone and threw it against the wall then grabbed her shirt, “Bitch, I have my mama’s blood on me and my fucking shorty’s blood on me! I will cut your damn throat! Find out where the fuck she is, NOW!” I said pushing her back. She fell over a chair then ran to the back. I eyed the punk-ass security in the corner then grilled him. I wish that nigga would come over here fucking with me. He turned his head like he didn’t see what I just did.

The doctor came out to inform me that Latavia was getting an emergency C-section. I didn’t want to hear shit about my son being dead. I won’t be able to take that shit.

  Latavia

I can hear Kenjay’s sobs as he held our dead son. Then he broke down and the agony in his cries were killing me. If someone can give me a gun right now I would end my life. This type of stress isn’t good for someone with my disorder. No amount of pills can help me now.

I couldn’t see him. I didn’t want to know what he looked like. The doctor basically told me all three shots went into my baby and none of my main organs. I hate that my baby saved my life. I did need a blood transfusion because of all the blood that I lost. But the images of Tammy’s face were embedded in my head and I sobbed.

A detective came in and asked us questions but Kenjay told him he didn’t know who was responsible. They asked him who Carla was, the person whose name was smeared across the wall but he told them he didn’t know.

“Why are y’all motherfuckers in here? Don’t y’all see me holding my fucking son and can’t y’all see that we are in here grieving? Stop asking me shit! Y’all do your fucking job and figure it out! I’m not telling y’all shit! Now, get the fuck out!” he said.

They told him they would be back later.

“You want to see him before they take him?” he asked me with him wrapped up in a blanket. I could see his small body shape but not his face.

“No, I don’t!” I cried. “Get him out of here!” I yelled at him. He looked
at me with bloodshot eyes and his face tightened up.

“Look at him before they come and get him! Our time with him is almost up!” he said.

“I can’t see him! I can’t, please, don’t do this to me! My mind will never be the same!” I told him with my eyes closed.

The nurse came in and they took the baby away from Kenjay. He looked at me then sat down with blood all over him. He put his head in his hands and I could hear him sniffling.

O’Shea and Britain came in and she rushed to my bedside crying, hugging me tightly.

“I’m so sorry! I’m here, Latavia! I swear I’m going to do my best to help you get through this!” she said squeezing me harder.

“Nigga, this shit is your fault!” O’Shea told Kenjay.

“Nigga, fuck you! She was MY fucking mama, nigga! Why the fuck are you even here? I’m the one who has to deal with this shit! Not you! So, get the fuck out!” Kenjay said then he and Kenjay started arguing and I was getting scared because it was about to turn physical.
