He tugged on Pru’s hand. “Let’s cut the cake.”

She followed his lead and they held the knife together. Once a few pieces were cut, they fed each other a bite of cake and now the band started up. Finally things were coming together to where they could make their escape.

The dance was a slow one and he held her close breathing in her sweet scent as he led her around the dance floor. Her parents joined them after they had made a full turn around the floor. Others began to join after that, but his attention was on his mate.

“Can we go now?” He asked.

  She giggled. “Soon, very soon.”

Once the first dance was done, they sat back down at the table for a short while accepting last minute wedding gifts and well wishes. Finally he was able to take his mate outside to the limo that carried them home.

Once they arrived, Herk carried her into the suite. Soon they would have their own home, but for now this felt right because she was with him. If home was where the heart was then it was wherever his mate was.

“Are you ready for me to ravish you?” He unbuttoned the top of his shirt.

“I’ve never been more ready for something in my life.”

Stripping like it was a race, they laughed as they slipped and tripped getting to the bed. Excitement ran through them as they looked at their perfect one. The goddess had been more than kind to them and electricity ran through them.

Herk moaned as his hands skimmed her bare skin. “You feel amazing.”

Her reply was to kiss him with everything she was as she lay on top of him. Both hands slid over him and her mouth followed downward. She licked his nipple and it beaded hard for her. Pru sucked it and felt his shaft grow harder against her belly.

He groaned with deepened. “Please, I need you so much.”

“You’ll have me.” She lifted and guided him inside her. Sliding down his shaft, he was deep inside her right away.

Pru began to move slowly at first then she sped up until she was moving fast. Need spiraled out of control and the sounds of their passion echoed around the room. “Yes! I’m almost there.” Herk knew he sounded desperate.

“Almost, Baby.” Her channel gripped him tight.

She froze for just a second before she exploded on top of him and he followed her to their reward. Once their bodies stilled, he rolled over pulling her along with him easily. They lay wrapped together as their breathing slowed and their heart rates leveled out.

“I hope that never stops feeling like it did today.” Herk leaned up kissing his mate.

“There’s no reason for it to ever change. You are everything to me.”

That was all he ever wanted to be. Home would always be wherever they were if they were together.

  Epilogue

While the move had gone well, the problems they’d found had been worse than expected. Hubolla had dug into many areas at the edge of the cities and directly in small towns. Now he and Pru stood at the edge of a town that no longer existed. The first true battle in the war had now been fought and what had Hubolla truly risked or lost? The town was in ashes, smoke, blood and death stain the breeze that blew remnants of people’s lives around.

These people hadn’t asked for this nor had they wanted a part in this battle. The choice had been taken from them. Those that had refused to fight when they saw what was happening, had been killed by their neighbors or possibly even their family members. What would any parent do to protect the lives of their children? These children who were now orphans, at least a large number of them were. His soldiers had done all they could to preserve the lives of the innocent.

Herk feared this same scene would replay over and over as they fought those followers of Hubolla who had dug in all over this continent. It had gone without true leadership far too long and given their enemy the foothold he desired. They’d known the job would be hard, but not that it would be heartbreaking. A child cried and screamed so Herk went and picked him up. Most of his people held those poor children that couldn’t find their parents or even worse, had found recognizable parts of them.

His tears were inside. They wanted out but to appear strong he had to secure them inside himself. Pru didn’t care if she seemed strong or not as tears ran down her face uninterrupted. She held a small female child who hung onto her as if there was nothing else to cling to. Looking around, he admitted little was left. What would they do with the survivors who had nowhere to go and nothing left of the life they’d lived before?

It was his hope Pru and the other females would handle it because it was more than he could deal with. That might not be fair, but Pru was good at these kinds of things. She’d already proven herself irreplaceable when it came to the needs of the people.

His mate divided the children and survivors between the females in their army to care for, at least for now. They would be taking some home as well. That presented no problem with the large nearly empty house they had currently. The problem would come tomorrow or the day after when they took on the next town that was full of Hubolla followers. For now, they would head home, clean up, and rest. Hopefully his mate would want to make love tonight so he could forget what he’d seen here today.

  “Ready to go?” He asked.

Pru nodded and he saw the small group following them to their SUV. It would be full and then some. It was alright since a local lady came and cooked leaving more food than even they could eat. Julio flew home, or at least he supposed he did since he didn’t ride with them and that was how he’d arrived.

The ride home was quiet which was a relief after all they’d been through. The children had fallen asleep for the most part but hopefully settling them in wouldn’t be hard. They arrived and everyone hurried to get out and stared at the house like it was a castle. Maybe to them it was. Pru led them in and gave them instructions before she returned to their room where she showered before heading to the kitchen to reheat the food and put out some sides to stretch things. Some of these people looked like they’d not eaten well in a long time.

It was no surprise after they cleaned up when they fell over the food. One of the children ate so much, he threw up. Finally they’d all finished and somehow, Pru found something for each person to sleep in. No one seemed to have any trouble getting to sleep. Yes, they were upset and had gone through an awful experience, but they were also worn out. They were so tired, they had nothing left to give.

Once all their guests were asleep, it was just the two of them. It was strange thinking of this gorgeous female as his wife. Herk felt like the luckiest male alive and wanted her to know it. Pulling her into the bedroom and finally the bed, he snuggled close whispering sweet words of love and forever after.

Before they could make love, she fell asleep, but that was alright. Their relationship was so much more than just sex. There was a deep commitment and they were tied together at their souls. As he fell asleep he knew that they would always be together like this and once this war was over, they would find eternal happiness.

  Unicorn in Unease

Julio didn’t know much about love, but his mate was challenging everything he wanted in life. That couldn’t be right, could it? Maybe he was wrong about her being his mate, but he felt bad now that he’d gone back to the plains leaving her behind. No matter what he did it seemed to be wrong.

Janel had thought she’d found her one and only, but he’d left without a backwards look. She tried to date, but he was the only one on her mind. For now she would pour everything into her job and eventually things would settle.

Two stubborn Pisces who each think they are right. Will they give in or face a life alone?

  Stanley

Things had changed a great deal for all of them. Stanley was considering a big step that could cost him his life or elevate his position but either way, he would no longer be Reese’s right-hand wolf. Rachel wasn’t worried, she knew Stan would win the day if he decided to take on the fight. What worried her was that he’d asked her to go with him and she wasn’t sure she could stay around wolves for the rest of her life.

He felt something for her, no matter how much he tried to deny it. Her magic upset his wolf but even that wasn’t enough to stop him from wanting to keep her. He’d made some hard decisions and now it was time for her to make one. She would continue her life in one of two ways, with him or without him, and that decision would be final.
